We may never know if those caps still apply to the older tariffs. Prices would need to rise above those levels in order to test it and, touch wood, haven't yet come close.

What happens when Octopus hit the change everyone to the new fixed tracker tariff in the new year and they are still on dumb meters. The December 2023 v1 clearly states smart meters are a requirement.
Either the dumb meter customers get swtched over, or they get kicked off the tariff.

They will get kicked off the tariff onto Flexible Octopus tariff. This happened to me early this year when my renewal came up and I didn't have a smart meter.
Well that is definitive then, from the horse's mouth so to speak.

Did you then get a smart meter and then rejoin Tracker?

Not exactly - Tracker v1 and v2 customers were offered renewal on their existing versions, for a further 12 month fixed-term, rather than being put on the then current version of Tracker (as happened with v3 and later customers * ), irrespective of whether they had smart meters, and despite it being made a requirement at that time (IIRC).

Of course, that was then, this is now, so...?

I wonder if v1 and v2 customers will be left for the duration of their current 12 month terms to end, before being moved to the new Tracker?

EDIT: * Seems, in some cases, not just v1 and v2, then?
I think v1/v2 and maybe v3 early adopters have earned some leeway with Octopus being their guinea pigs?

Interesting. When I was on a call with a member of the executive team she said people being allowed to stay on those version hadn't happened! I was trying to be allowed to stay on my version 3 (I think), where I had caps of 11p and 40p, but she said it was impossible for anyone to have remained. She gave me £20 as compensation. It seems that the executive team don't know what is going on.
Octopus stopped auto renewal before v3 fixed term expiring emails were sent out, the only v3 customer(s) who got renewed on v3 would have been due to individual customer service specialist error(s)
  • Much of what I read could be regarded as informed speculation - inevitable in the circs. I'm pinning my hopes on nothing changing with the costs of my Nov 22 v1 "endless" gas + electric tariffs, as shown on my Home screen, without me being made aware of the facts. In advance!

There are enough of us following the daily pricing to spot immediately if anything happens without the required notice. I very much doubt that it will.

3.99p gas, can i store some at this price
  • I've noticed that when my invoices don't "add up" it is often the case that differences in the gas conversion factors are to blame. These don't ever seem to figure in the correspondence - presumably because they are an external variable over which no one has any control or influence.

Enjoying your move to Octopus I see 👍

I tried explaining it all to my father again at the weekend. Although he does at least max out cooking on a Sunday between 11am-4pm with British gas and their half price electricity sessions. So he is well up with what is possible but breaking away from BG and the boiler cover and years of being with them............stubborn lol

Is it a valid use of power of attorney to switch your parents energy provider?
  • For those using the savings sessions for calculating your December average I have just plugged out December session savings init our spreadsheet and it's taken the average price per kWh as of today down to 17p.

Far cheaper than I ever thought we would pay in December.on top of that it looks like despite the cold start we will use slightly less energy this year and that's without cutting back as much as we did last year.

Yes - Tracker is exceding my expectations massively. Just about to calculate my average since switching 10 days ago, factoring in the saving sessions, but off the top of my head I can see it's going to easily be the best month this year for me. And to make it even better the rate for East Midlands tomorrow is 13.32p/kWh - remembering to include the VAT today but probably introducing another error instead :-)

Edit - a staggering 7.11p/kWh over the last 10 days for me - a bit artificial because that includes the benefit of 3 savings sessions but definitely a good start :-) :-) :-) Would have been 18.38p/kWh without the savings sessions and even that is something I would be happy with.
