That was a once-in-a-lifetime event. It's been below the tracker for years before that happened. A combo of the Ukraine war, Putin playing with the gas taps and the general economy after a pandemic (itself a once in a lifetime event) caused a perfect storm.ashe said:
I'd suggest taking it as a long term view even if it does shoot up. If you look at the 365 day history it spiked last December; then went below cap and stayed there since. I joined Feb this year and have saved over £700, and have referred over 60 people so it's been an amazing ride 😂 but even without all those, the £700 savings alone has been very welcomeknight123 said:
Switched a week and a half ago and we've already saved about £20. We're all electric so heating the flat is generally a nightmare.MultiFuelBurner said:Let's just say all on tracker must be damn happy with their decision

Little bit worried in case it shoots up, but considering the amount of wind we get during winter, and that the price cap is likely to rise, seems like it's a safe bet that it'll generally stay under it?
We're now much more savvy than to leave the gas supply up to Russia, we're more energy independent due to wind farms and solar and our economy is slowly getting better. If we see a bump, it'll be a very mild one just above the current SVR and go back down sooner. But I'll hope it'll never go above the red line0 -
I am/was on Octopus tracker for my electric since March 2023.
3 weeks ago i changed my gas over to Octopus and was on the Flexible Octopus rate.
This morning i was checking my account and i am now on the Flexible Octopus tariff of 27.93 and 42.01 daily charge.
Last night i was on what i have been for months.
Is this a glitch or has moving my gas over to them put me on a default tariff?0 -
The return of light winds, frost and fog towards the weekend could test the resolve of some tracker and Agile users as daily rates surge near or even above SVT.1

I have sent them an email early this morning but no reply.
I was waiting to see what the Tracker prices for Gas were doing and what is going on in Gaza i was holding back before i changed from Flexible over to Gas Tracker tariff.
I will see if i get a reply from my email today and if not i will call them up.

Just looking at past electricity wholesale electricity and gas prices (can't post links as I'm a new member) and it's clear that in the years before the recent massive increases, January and February, the coldest months, did not particularly spike. Electricity in particular has been cheaper on average than some of the summer months.
Obviously it's anyone's guess what will happen, but a massive increase is anything but guaranteed2 -
The predicted demand at the weekend doesn't seem to be especially high, even for a weekendtlcgrantham said:The return of light winds, frost and fog towards the weekend could test the resolve of some tracker and Agile users as daily rates surge near or even above SVT.
Low winds: yes.

True predicted demand is only slightly up for a weekend but wind, solar are very low. We’ll see what happens0

Is this a glitch or has moving my gas over to them put me on a default tariff? You can check the contracts on your account via this web service: https://energy.guylipman.com/sm/admin?source=octopus(when set up go to Octopus Account Details)It sounds to me like there was a erroneous change made as a result of bringing gas over and they've already corrected the issue.
