Just electric here. We were away for a week when it was the cheapest week of the month, which has caused the issue. Background usage became double figure usage.
That would be to your benefit, surely.

In my case, there is sod all data missing, not even one half hour, as I went back this morning and checked.
You keep your own "manual" check of your true consumption ( which you can use to challenge them with) rather than this the usage being recorded else where?

Therefore five days I used around 2kwH this month I have had 8 or 9 extra units whacked onto each day, taken off other days in the month, even though they have all my data.

    Make it make sense.

As to if its to my benefit or detriment - I suppose it depends. All three times its happened to me its been to my detriment though. Sometimes it can work the other way.
If you have proof there's no missed readings (guylipman) show them that and ask what they're playing at.

  • I think you'll find that Lipman doesn't include Tracker if I've understood him correctly. If not then mysmartenergy should do the same job [if Tracker is included I'd like to know about it]

Half hour readings from any tariff can be loaded into Guy Lipman's site. The meter readings and tariff are independent.

I already did this 3 months ago on the phone, they had no idea why they had smoothed it and just lobbed a free tenner at me, probably to go away. So I'm still slightly up on the deal.

And yes I keep my own daily record of consumption (to the other poster that asked)

That seems to be the explanation: consumption data from Lipman, pricing data from MSE ( and cost data from your excel spreadsheet).

  • When there is an interruption of data recording are there bells & whistles that alert you to the fact, or does this get lost in the smoothing process unless you are very eagled eyed?

I only noticed because the Octopus app missed out two days, you get no form of notification from them.

I did email them on the 1st to get them to manually pull and to their credit they did within the day, but still they smoothed the month.

Ive just tried that Guy Lipman site, says I have eight seperate half hours missing from the last billing month, there are no gaps in the Octopus app on the half hour bar chart so I am a bit stumped now.
