Maybe - I guess if this becomes the norm it could make Agile less attractive as a tariff unless the times don't coincide or are less frequent. Agile is already a bit of a niche tariff as it's often hard to beat the tracker price for a lot of folks.la531983 said:Just seems a bit off, essentially Tracker customers getting the benefits of Agile without being on Agile, and not having to put up with the 40p a unit peaks either. And I am a tracker customer myself.
Then again the SVT customers are getting the same perks I suppose.0 -
Been on tracker for just under a week and I'm kicking myself for not switching sooner. We've got an electric boiler and the cost of heating the flat last winter, even with my being stingy, was horrific. Can't believe I could've been paying a lot less than the standard tariff since the start of the year... would've saved hundreds!
I know it's a matter for the crystal ball etc, but do you think there's really much chance of electricity tracker prices going above the SVT price for a sustained period of time this winter? Getting a bit anxious that maybe I've switched too late to build up significant savings before a big price increase0 -
You don't get all the benefits of Agile, we're assuming it will be (part of) the plunge pricing during (some) electricity oversupply periods.la531983 said:Just seems a bit off, essentially Tracker customers getting the benefits of Agile without being on Agile ...
Really, we'll be helping to balance the grid. The offer of "free electricity" is just a sweetener.la531983 said:Then again the SVT customers are getting the same perks I suppose.
There was a report recently of NG having to pay £550/MWh - 55p/kWh - to "dispose of" surplus electricity to continental Europe. If there are preiods when Octopus can buy electricity at a negative price, it makes good commercial sense for them to persuade their customers to use it "for free".

I suspect its for nothing to do with the tariff a customer is on but relates to the Power-Ups scheme Octopus recently launchedla531983 said:Ive just has an email from Octopus inviting me to join Octoplus. The first benefit listed of this is as follows:- Free electricity when the grid is greenest

They also ran the Power Hour scheme last year, which gave people one hour's free energy per month when the grid was at its greenest, and that applied to all tariffs.gt94sss2 said:
