Octopus adding 50k customers to tracker on 1st July
Is that a lot with a population of over 60 million?
I wonder to how many residential account holders there are. A lot less than the population I'd assume. For example a family with four kids, that's six people but just one account.
There's something like 25 million residential electricity accounts.
Edit: According to this government report, in September 2022 there were 28.8 million "electricity meters operated by large energy suppliers in domestic properties" in the UK. Most (not all) domestic energy accounts will have one meter.

    Hi all

I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I’m thinking of going for Octopus Tracker or the Agile but not sure about the numbers.

To give some context, I’m on Economy 7 and my estimated annual usage is about:
    -day: 1900kWh
    -night: 5200kWh

My property is fully electric and yes I know I use a lot at night as I have storage heaters!

What Octopus tariff could suit me best?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure that any of Octopus's smart tariffs will really suit you.
Your current E7 day/night split is really well suited to E7. Yes, with Agile or Tracker Octopus can set the ALCS contactor in your smart meter to charge your storage heaters for 7 hours a night, just like E7, but there's no guarantee that you'll get cheaper electricity during those seven hours.
For conventional E7, in most supply regions you'll find cheaper suppliers than Octopus; EDF are frequently mentioned in this context.
If you really want to give a smart tariff a go, Agile is likely to be cheaper than Tracker simply because Tracker has the same price all day while Agile generally works out cheaper in the wee small hours when your storage heaters will be charging.
(If you have a compatible electric vehicle, Intelligent Octopus could work out to be the best tariff but you haven't mentioned one.)

    Ah ok thanks a lot.

No I don’t have an electric vehicle.

In that case I’m just thinking to just stay on the normal variable tariff. Night rates are quite competitive and I haven’t really seen anything better.

Just realised my VDD change date is same as my tracker v3 end date, so yeah it was 100% that messing up my VDD, its in 2 days so will ring them up to fix after that changes.

Still dont see the option to change tariff on dash, will also check on 23rd if that appears.

Does Tracker still have a waiting list?
No waiting list, scroll to bottom of page left hand side  https://octopus.energy/smart/tracker/
If you switch to Tracker, and then you want to leave again later, do you have to switch to a non smart tariff or can you switch straight from Tracker to Go or Agile?  (I am aware of the 9 month and 30 day things, I am more thinking if you have been on Tracker for a while and you want to move to Go or whatever)?
Tracker has its own rules as until all customers on tracker have smart meters it cannot be regarded as a smart tariff, should be able to switch from tracker to a smart tariff subject to might take up to 2 weeks to change tariff.
I am confused. Octopus are saying that Tracker is a SMart Tariff, so can I argue that it is not on this basis?

I got the impression that Tracker used to be available to customers without smart meters - not sure how as they would have to know your readings every midnight.   I think that is now changed and you must have a smart meter to get tracker?

There are unknown number of customers without Smart Meter who transferred to tracker tariff prior to 15th February + unknown number of customers without Smart Meters who were sent invite links on 1 July having been informed Octopus checked and smart meter working fine. at least one customer has posted on this thread Juneish time renewed gas tracker for further 12 months despite not having a smart meter.

I don't believe there is any regulatory definition of "smart tariff". Neither "smart tariff" or "smart import tariff" are defined in the Octopus T&Cs, but section 2 of the Smart Tariffs T&C specifies that Octopus Tracker is included among the smart import tariffs offered by Octopus, and acceptance of those T&Cs would constitute agreement that Octopus Tracker is in fact a smart import tariff for the purposes of those conditions.
Generally you can switch from one smart tariff to another providing you haven't switched away from a smart tariff in the preceding 30 days (condition 1.3). I have switched directly from one smart tariff to another on three occasions in the past.
