My V3 gas ends 17th June. The app now shows a countdown icon - 52 days left but no contact from Octopus about it yet.
Sit on your hands. Do nothing and it will just extend for a further year on your present tariff version.
Mine ends on June 3 and I received a renewal email last week. It said if you dont reply saying you want to remain on Tracker then you will be moved to Flexible so I would not assume you will stay on Tracker as the default response.
They must have changed their emails. This is what I received:

I did nothing and I am still on the old tariff version.

Already known for v1 and v2, are you on v3 as the question asked?

The bit in bold does suggest though that your caps are going up, it would be cool if you can confirm that. :)
Extended for a further year with a 6p cap:

It would seem a bit off if Octopus were to up the cap for those already on the more expensive trackers, but of course they are within their right to do that, so I guess we wont know until nearer the summer.  Not sure when v3 first went on the market.

In-between posts that you replied to, others on v1 and v2 with later fixed term expiries had different renewal email, instead of 12 month fixed term extension they roll onto flexible unless they contact Octopus saying they want to stay on tracker. - same renewal email as v3.

Contacting Octopus to say want to stay on tracker should mean need to have a smart meter in order to go on currently available tracker version.

So might be a signup date cut off point then, probably rewarding early adopters, did those with the newer email still get to stay on the older tariff?  I apologise for not checking.

I looked back posts from  v1 and v2 customer which end late May ish who had same renewal email as v3 renewals.

Might the difference in emails/renewal options for different people on v1 and v2 relate to whether they already have smart meters or not?

More likely fixed term expiry date related........

Signing up to v3 could well prove to be a mistake in the light of falling prices. v4 may well be a better bet, and perhaps just round the corner.

It doesn’t look like it at the moment with gas tracker prices at their lowest this year and below any cap as well as less than half the SVT.

Perhaps I put that badly.  What I meant was that v4 is highly likely to have lower caps than the very high v3 caps.  You could of course leave v3, but with no guarantee of getting back onto Tracker again for some time.

v3 hasn't been available since (IIRC) June/July last year - there have been a number of Tracker versions since then; the current version is 'November 2022 v1'.

Possible, but given the ongoing reduction in wholesale prices, perhaps Octopus' next move would be to abandon caps altogether, returning the tariff to a true tracker once again?

Yep, at least 4 - July 2022, August 2022, an extremely short-lived October 2022 (while they figured out how to apply to EPG to Tracker, no idea whether anyone is on that version or not) and November 2022.
