My friend who applied to Octopus two weeks ago to change from Flexible Octopus to Octopus Tracker got switched over to the gas tracker ok ijn a couple of days  but was told there would be up to 6 months to move onto the electric tracker ..up to six months ! looks like HotdealsUK has flooded Octopus .

Which has cost Octopus a huge amount of money

How has it cost them money? Its the market rate and they add a bit on top to cover their costs. You can see it in the dashboard.

I didn't realise how much it costs until I happen to have a chat with Greg Jackson (or one of his team) on other things Octopus

It's called the market stabilisation charge when new customer join Octopus like the flood from hot UK deals and when I have looked it up. Wow

Has it?  URs are well below the EPG so they're selling at the rate that makes them the profit they factored into the UR calculations.

If things swing wildly then it's possible it will cost them, but with the newest tariff URs the likelihood of Octopus having to apply their own cap is a lot lower than the older versions.

Edit: didn't see your post about the market stabilisation charge whilst I was typing.  That's a shame :(

+ existing customers who have switched from flexible to tracker since 1 January Octopus are losing out on the difference between these full price energy cap rates that they were guaranteed until 31 March.

    E - 33.43p/kWh + 34.0p/kWh = 67.43p kWh

    G - 6.7p/kWh + 10.3p/kWh =  17.0p kWh

compared with actual tracker kWh retail rates

From 1 April difference between full price energy kWh cap rates compared with actual tracker kWh retail rates assuming tracker rates stay below EPG level. ( the lower tracker rates are the more they lose and visa versa)

I got my first bill this morning and although I have a smart meter the price was averaged.
The App shows my daily usage, so I do not know why they have not used those

Still happy went down from £300 last month to £200 this month, It has been a little warmer though

Are you sure your bill/statement doesn't have the daily prices charged breakdown pages at the end?

Mine does, it shows an average in the "your charges in detail" page for the month, but does include the actual daily rates and charges on pages at the end.

I did not go that far down the bill and it does, all the days are there. Thank you for pointing this out to me.
  • Anyone else found today's gas tracker prices?

Looks like over 15.3p Despite no massive changes in NatGas values or prices elsewhere which show where the actual price should be.
