The guitar thing may of course be a local phenomenon. But I agree about the twigs and fairy lights. Also strings of triangular flags hung in conservatories seems to be popular.Doozergirl said:I've not noticed the guitars.I believe that the key sale winners are
a) a vase of random big twigs placed in a corner, often with fairy lights
b) it is imperative to hang a used tea towel from the arm of the oven.
However, my rat Bertie proved popular. We sold in 11 hours.

Ah! Was anyone in your household a guitarist?Skiddaw1 said:Our cat did a runner and hid at the bottom of the garden when our pics were taken so sadly, we didn't have the obligatory cat. We did, however, have two guitars as well as fresh flowers (for pics and every viewing) along with home-made biscuits (this was pre-Covid). Honesty compels me to admit there were novelty LED lights as well as bunting in the garden shed but I plead not guilty to any wooden 'Love' 'Eat' 'Sleep' cutouts (or similar)
.
Yep- me! Actually, I got rid of one of the guitars before we moved. Still have the other.

'scuse me but that is a tree, not twigs. Twigs in a vase with fairy lights is an entirely different arrangement altogether.68ComebackSpecial said:davidmcn said:
3 or 4? Pathetic. You need at least a dozen:wannabe_a_saver said:
I think a lot of people (mostly men) just have an idea most of their lives that one day they will be bona fide rock gods so of course they need a guitar. Most of them will probably be able to strum Wonderwall.staffie1 said:
It's difficult to know why people latch-on to these fads. I was going to blame the TV make-over shows, but I don't remember seeing a single one promoting the use of these props. As you suggest, it's much better just to see the house itself, rather than the distractions.MovingForwards said:68ComebackSpecial said:
A ukulele would work even better.Herbalus said:I’m a relatively small person, and was thinking of being visible in our box room photo to demonstrate it looks bigger than it actually is. Complete with 3/4 size guitar for full effect.
A guitalele will work better as it looks like a full-size guitar, but isn't much bigger than a uke.
I also noticed nearly everyone had a guitar strategically placed when looking, plus the usual signs and grey everything.
It was great seeing the rare ones with old décor and original fittings, lots more character and individuality.
Real guitarists have at least 3 or 4 of them in the house.
(which isn't even the most noteworthy thing from this Rightmove listing)Picture 16 has Doozergirl's "twigs with fairylights"!

I'd just fling my guitar casually onto the nearest sofa (face up of course) as if I'd just been playing it when prospective buyers rang/knocked.staffie1 said:Good Morning. I'm about to put my house on the market, and I've noticed that practically every property listed on RM or that I've visited has a guitar in one of the rooms. Sometimes they're hung on the wall, sometimes they're on a stand, prominently displayed. Others are just propped-up against the wall in a corner - but they're always there!
So, where do you put your guitar, and will certain types of guitar generate a higher selling price?
(This is a tongue-in-cheek question, purely for amusement. I don't wish to offend any serious guitarists out there). Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. I used to enjoy it when properties were listed by estate agents that would include related ornaments in each picture. Eg ewe-move would have a sheep, apple homes would have an apple. I'd spend more time looking for these than looking at the house. So just helping the OP out on their subsequent listing:

My first husband bought me a huge toy cat with long white fur. I named him Sooty after a friends white cat. He was (actually is, I’ve still got him) very realistic. Years later post divorce I was renting a flat and the agent came round. She noticed Sooty and said “your cat’s very well behaved”. When I revealed the truth I don’t know who laughed the mostScotbot said:Guitars are so yesterday. What is required today is a cute cat

I admire anyone who can play a musical instrument, and can quite understand someone displaying their pride and joy. But I do struggle to believe that so many people are guitarists. It never ceases to amaze me how many RM listings feature a guitar. They can’t all be guitarists, surely? I mean, the odd violin, flute, maracas or even a mouth organ would seem more believable!PollyWollyDoodle said:I am gutted to read this thread. I have a guitar, I do play it occasionally, (acoustic not electric) and it is in view in my photos because that is where it lives - I had enough trouble finding places to hide all the random clutter without secreting a guitar somewhere safe. Don’t say “put it in the car” because that was already full of coats, shoes, and other normal living paraphernalia. I have some twigs (cut from my very own garden) and I added fairy lights to them at Christmas, I thought it was a really novel idea. I am now hanging my head in shame. I had no idea that I was such a cliche.I must have done a good job with hiding the cat accessories though, because when my buyers came back for another look this weekend they were surprised to see the two cats in the garden. Luckily they didn’t seem to notice that the cats were busy murdering a mouse.
If you will the end, you must will the means.1
