  • Cor, sounds like my idea of an ideal weekend 😂
You drive, right? How far is the tip? Do you have to book?
Could you do at least one load so you feel you've started? It's going to be so exciting when you've finished, a whole new room for not property prices! Your own private plant potting and pottering pad! *swoons*

I agree, at least sort it into what the tip will and won't take.

Ive always wanted to find a 'flylady' step by step gardening rejuvenation approach. Do you have a green waste collection and some clippers? I would start by cutting back and weeding around your regular paths, if in doubt prune by a third. Have a bucket by the back door and fill it with weeds or pruning every time you take the dog out.

I suggest that you Do not get seduced by pretty pictures of plug plants or fantasy seeds. If you want some pretty instant colour, buy some pre planted pots in the super market. I have learned this the hard way. Same with herbs.  Do you have access to Lidl/Aldi/MrM?

I do @PennysIntoPounds, but…I don’t want the rubbish in my car 😬 I keep my boot empty and clean and the rained on, mouse ridden rubbish is not allowed…this is why a man with a (tatty old) van would be ideal.
@redofromstart we have lots of wildlife including rabbits and pheasants so bedding plants would be speedily devoured. We don’t have green waste, but I do have a place where we stack all the grass and clippings, so that’s fine. I walk around with secateurs in my pocket hacking things back…I think I could do it all year and not make a dint. I do have access to a Lidl and bought the narcissus for the hanging baskets from there and that was very successful. Last year I bought a beautiful hydrangea for the pot on the steps and promptly killed it 😖 I definitely need hardy plants that don’t get eaten 😁 You both sound like brilliant knowledgeable gardeners 🌷

    1. Rubble sacks - stack stuff up ready to go - good 8 foot square of our patio currently until I have enough for a skip
    2. how much is a midi skip and do you have somewhere to put one? I'll check my messages and update with what I paid in case it helps. (£140)

I paid a good amount for someone to cut down and take away the nettles and brambles because it just was too much for me. Once past the 'no chance' I could do pretty motivating things and I've kept on top if it since.

Robust stuff needed then I guess? The blasted mice eat bulbs here. What does grow and thrive - propagate and or find pretty relations.

I really like playing in the garden but I wish I was more knowledgeable/better at it. It's one of the things where my complete lack of visual memory really has an impact. (What is that shrub? I don't know. What colour are the flowers? I don't know. I have to take photos.)

  • Fair enough WW, job for tomorrow morning could be finding a few mans with vans and contacting them for a quote and availability, and ask if they can help shift stuff to van too just in case there's a misunderstanding about the service being provided.
Do you think there's much stuff in there you'll want to keep?
Sorry if I'm pressuring you, tell me to b*gger off it's stressing you. I'm just excited for you to have your lovely near future space- and to not spend time this weekend doing risky boredom browsing!
I really need to get my backside in gear tomorrow and photograph and write listings for anything to go on ebbay before they hike their sellers fees next month... I don't wanna, is borrrrring *throws toys out of pram* 😁

Thank you @redofromstart. Some excellent ideas and tips there. I am the same, we don’t know half of what we’ve got. There are lots of shrubs like lilac and lobelia and spiky dog roses (I think…the ones with rose hips), honeysuckle and many I don’t recognise at all. There are lots of very tall pine trees. Plenty of daffs, snowdrops and crocus all over the place. I think the massive bank of bushes are some kind of currant and the privets are so tall they are like triffids. My main problem is everything needs pruning back and the lawns need tidying as the grass is tufty and wild and has grown over the pebbled paths…I see a lot of exercise in my future 😢

You need the  plant identifier app. Not sure of its name but it’s on Google lens - it’s brilliant.
