Ooh was it like a pick n mix shop? I really don't need to know the details"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

oh yes I'm with you on the toasted marshmallow, quite like the chocolate pudding, lemon and blueberry too but in smaller scoops. There used to be a 'by flavour' pick n mix in the big local city but sadly long gone. Root beer has to be the worst I think, closely followed by cinnamon.
Bonbons shred my teeth, but I do love a '10p mix' cola bottles, white mice etc rather than the modern haribo stuff. I could eat my own body weight in old school penny sweets. There are still a few good sweet shops left but not many now.
And now I want peardrops...

I used to love the flumps (and tasty flumps). One of my old cats was nicknamed pootle 😁
Yes it had lots of pick n mix….I still have my basket saved. I haven’t had a pear drop for years, or a rhubarb and custard. They had the bonfire toffee lollies in the silver trays 😮 and white chocolate skulls…and foamy mushrooms and bananas…I may need to go back 🤣🤣Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Oh all this talk of sweets! I'm not a fan of the jelly beans but love white mice flumes, foam bananas. Problem is my kids have inherited my sweet tooth. 😋Credit Cards NOV 2019 £33,220.42 Sept 2023 £19,951.00 Tilly Tidy 20223/COLOR] Sept £43.71 Here's my diary: A Ditherer's Diary Again2

Sorry about the sweets talk….I watched the panorama documentary on ultra processed foods at lunchtime and, although it puts me off the idea of everything upf it doesn’t stop me wanting confectionery, crisps and biscuits 😞 I think it’s the time factor involved in sourcing and making whole food equivalents, plus the costs, that really trips people up. I didn’t like the plastic bit about it seeping into our foods…you can’t even buy a bunch of grapes in a brown bag anywhere, they all come in a plastic punnet from the supermarket 😖. It’s all pretty horrifying! Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I think the best most of us can face doing is just being careful. I think a lot of the problem with packaging is because it needs to protect the contents from being spoilt by the amount they jam into the cartons they use to carry things. You can't even be sure how items that you buy loose have been stored before they reach the shelf. I think if I went too heavily down this route I would end up paranoid.

Plastic packaging is one of the reasons I prefer to buy our fresh fruit & veg from our local market - everything put in brown paper bags, which I can add to our compost bins or worm composter. I am sick of the amount of plastic packaging which comes into this house.
UPF prog was interesting. I remember the issues about aspartame being raised in the 80s. Ultimately, all that matters to the big food companies is making more & more money & I am very cynical about them.

Yes the UPF programme was interesting. I’ve been listening to the podcasts by the tv doc twins…..Van something….one is called Xand. They do lots of TVs programmes….I have been trying to reduce the amount of UPF for a while now. A different doc said you should aim for 80% of your diet to have 4 or less ingredients in any processed food. This seemed to make sense to me at the time….and that’s what I’m aiming for.January spends - £587.584

There’s always something new we should be doing. I’ve had a big push on reducing plastics and went back to real soap, shampoo bars, etc. so I do struggle with plastic covered food. It’s impossible to get fruit and veg without it up here. Now I need to start checking ingredients lists too. The 4 or less rule for 80% sounds sensible, but I may aim for 50% to start with. Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Good morning and happy Thursday 🌞 It seems quite sunny outside. MrWW is off shift and mowing the lawns already! I am hoping work calms down a bit as it’s been so busy I’ve been struggling to fit in the actual core job. Everything always kicks off at once doesn’t it!I spent some money yesterday on 6 bottles of wine (cheaper than you can get in the shops and some organic coconut oil in a glass jar and some organic almond spread..yes, yes I was influenced by the talks on ‘bad’ cooking oils, etc. 😬
I am 2 surveys away from cashing out on the you gov survey site…it’s only taken about 5 years 😅
I am still bouncing up and down the next half pound on the weight loss….I need to get a grip!
I hope you all have a lovely day ☕️☀️Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien
