Afternoon allWeather absolutely disgusting here on the south coast, supposed to meet a friend for a drink in town this afternoon. I know I should be sociable but really I want to curl up with April Lady (99p thanks @WinterWarrior 😉) 8yo with her dad so the flat is peaceful (if horribly messy)
@Tiredbutdetermined do you have a current account with savings account attached? Many banks let you open pots or mini accounts within that - then you can just move bits of money over as often as you like. I LOVE a tillytidy, I actually look forward to it all day 🤦😂
This is why I should get out more!2 -
Tiredbutdetermined said:Morning,
I am so impressed with the Christmas 2022 savings in January. I have started a budget but have no idea how to stash away the little bits of money into different pots until they are needed. I don’t think cash envelopes would work as my kids occasionally like to declutter my purse contentsNot all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

@elbree it’s exciting isn’t it 🤣 it’s also a bit nail biting at the end of the month when you don’t want to take it back 😬Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Well not a no spend day as I did go to L*dl for a few bits and spent just short of £39 🙄 I had a lovely preprepared prawn salad for lunch 🥗 I often end up eating things I don’t always fancy as I’m too lazy to make 2 different meals…this does not help with my weight 😖 So I love pre-prepared things so we can eat different things. I may have also got a very nice looking sponge roll, some ice cream and some cookies and cream flipz 🤤
I then took dog for a drive as it’s nice and sunny, but very cold.I have £1 something I could tidy, but I’ll try to wait until it’s a round number before sending to the mortgage, or it will ruin all my hard work of getting that to a round number! Ideally I’d like to send in fives now until the Feb interest and payment muck it back up.Oh…and I mended the drawers 😁Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

@Tiredbutdetermined, before I had an account with lots of pots/mini accounts, attached I had one account where I kept all my virtual savings pots. I kept track of what was in each pot using a simple spreadsheet, each pot had its own column and when i added it to the pot I updated the spreadsheet and if I spent in that category I took it away in the spreadsheet.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

@Baileys_Babe I love a good spreadsheet! I have so many pages on mine 😁
@elbree…same! I’m holding off buying heating oil until pay day. I have two thirds of what it will cost in a heating oil pot, but I don’t want to touch it! I want to get in front with all pots before I start that shenanigans 🤣
I also want to get my savings to a point where I can discount the pots as savings and just think of them as sinking funds in their own right, but I’m not there yet. If I take them from the savings total the savings don’t look very good 😖Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Same! I basically want twice what I need in each pot - I'm a long way from there!4

I do find it very hard emotionally to touch the savings now, even if it is for the thing they were intended for. It just feels almost dirty, and not in a too much chocolate style. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
