I do find it very hard emotionally to touch the savings now, even if it is for the thing they were intended for.  It just feels almost dirty, and not in a too much chocolate style.
I do put money in on pay day (to various savings) and then drag bits back if needed from my general savings…but that’s because I’m always too ambitious 😖 But I’m getting to the point (finally) where I need to know the savings have increased month on month, no matter what. It took a few bad months of decreases for me to realise if I wasn’t careful I could fritter everything away and now I’m much stricter. I’m aiming to go up at least £500 per month in 22. That’s less than my loan payments were so there’s  absolutely no excuse not to meet this!
On another note I need to remind everyone that toffolossus biscuits from fortnum & mason are the best biscuits ever invented!

I have sinking funds for different categories, but I did start years ago so always have the money in them for whichever bill/spend it is, but I have well over half the amount in my travel fund (to go and see dd2, when things are more or less back to normal) but I can't bring myself to use it towards the needed canopy on the front of the house, even though it would be replaced by the time I expect to go to see dd2!!!! Mad isn't it!

@nannygladys lovely. I hope my sinking funds run just as well by the end of the year. And I completely understand not wanting to touch your travel fund, it’s all about protecting ourselves isn’t it? Seeing your dd2 is very important so you don’t want to risk that future happiness ‘just in case’.
When my credit card was my back up I was much more blasé about spending, but when it’s my very own money I think much harder about using it and how I will pay it back!

I hear you beanie, what a cute wee whisper. Just another name for pots really 😁. Savings to cover expected expenses like yearly insurance, mot’s, birthdays, etc. Some money people call them sinking funds. You can save them all in one account with a spreadsheet to remember how much is for what, or separate it all into pots or cash envelopes or jars or whatever. I bet you do it already, you are way more sensible than me.

    I really am not

I have money in the credit union that I try to forget.......
Partly as some of the money is earmarked for my funeral( if no one chucks me in the Forth!) .
If I die then the money in the credit union would be doubled which I think is pretty damm good!

  • @beanielou that’s amazing, but don’t do it! We’d rather you stuck around at half the price ♥️
As to the Forth, possibly someone could roll me in, but not chuck me (not this close after Christmas)! 😳

@nannygladys Can I ask about your canopy,  please? Is it just the standard concrete lintel over your front door - or something much more elaborate? I have one which is absolutely useless - in this part of Scotland,  the rain usually comes in horizontally so  the canopy does nothing to keep people dry. Maybe the rain where you are is better behaved? Drookit of Mid-Scotland. :s

Good morning and happy Sunday 📚☕️🍫
Today should be a no spend day. Yesterday MrWW turned the heating off early and then wandered around in a t shirt shivering and saying he was cold and coming down with something and took himself off to bed. I was cold and I had a jumper on,so I’m not sure if he’ll bounce back today, or take a day out! We shall see. To be fair, he didn’t eat much for tea (almost unheard of), but did have a big dinner…
My material came yesterday so I’d like to make a start on the cot quilt I said I’d make. I have a few months yet, but would like it done in plenty of time (in case I have any difficulties 😬)
I also need to get some washing done.
    It’s all excitement here!
I hope you all have fabulous Sundays fillled with all good things 🍫☕️📚🍫☕️📚
