  • I'm talking about HMRC in general not the person on Web chat! I know how things work I'm struggling as it is financially now no grants at all for me I'm due alot of money and have been really affected by covid this takes the utter !!!!!! asking for ID when I have submitted returns lots of times its all delay tactics ridiculous
Not sure if you've seen a copy of the letter that your gonna get yet but they ask for alot of information from you. You can Google surf2 letter and it will tell you everything your going to have to send them so your ready. The most time consuming part was having to print every payslip from the year then every bank statement to show each payment that went in to match up with them
That's just ridiculous having to do all that it really is I've amended my return and deducted a tenner of expenses so I can re submit my claim as seen people do this and received payment in 2 weeks
  • spoke to them today because I was supposed to have heard by yesterday and for the 3rd time they have given me another date the 14th august, because it is taking them longer than anticipated to get through everyone's security checks

That's exactly what iv been told twice now with 2 different dates, il contact them again today and ask about making a complaint
there is really no point in making a complaint - and if you still want to do so, there's certainly no need to ring them as they cant accept complaints over the phone

if you google "complaint about hmrc" then you do it online

All areas of HMRC are have backlog due to Covid19 - some days, some weeks, and some months.  timescales are given to customers based on work on hand at the time of asking. The date is based on when items were sent to HMRC, or filed online.

    Just be patient.

    Name Dropper First Post
Called last week and didn't even get a new date just told it will looked at when it is looked at.
My claim date for seiss  was today. Gone online and now u can't claim due to an alert on my seiss. Think its linked to my return being held up?
Anyone else eligible for seiss and  unable unable claim due to an alert on it?
  • Question on the surf2 thing, I overpaid tax last year and filed my SA for the first time a month or so back, recently they sent me this Surf2 letter which requires me to send a bunch of proof of ID/address documents etc + R38 form.

That's fine but I'm a little confused by this line

confirm that you have evidence for any tax relief you have claimed for expenses (such as receipts, invoices and bank statements)

    I'm employed full time.

The overpaid tax last year was from higher rate tax reliefs from pension contributions and a few small contributions to charity.

Do these constitute as "expenses" ?
