Staying local

If the roadmap schedule is followed and the rule of 6 comes back on 29 March, how 'local' will we be required to stay?
I'm just wondering if I will be able to see relatives who live about 17 miles away. I suspect that this will be against the guidance.

The definition of “Local” has been published .
” Your village, town or part of a city where you live”
Currently 17miles is unlikely to be classed as local0 -
It's always meant within your own council boundary where I am.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Local isn't defined in the legislation although the guidance says "you should not travel outside your local area." The definition of local area is very much a matter of interpretation. Those who have been fined tend to to be those who've driven long distances for "exercise" such as to the Lake District.
Personally, I wouldn't see travelling 17 miles to see family safely in their garden as much of an issue. The chances of being stopped and asked to explain yourself are very low indeed. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.4 -

I think it may be a case of gauging the mood at that time I suppose. We would keep a safe distance etc. Just want to do what's right really, not happy to bend the rules as if everyone did the same we would never get out of this mess, but I wouldn't do anything risky per se.

It will depend on how the relaxations are introduced. At present, the legislation says that you may only leave home for certain reasons where it is reasonably necessary to do so, for example exercise, essential shopping. The guidance adds that such activities should be carried out within your local area. At present leaving your home to visit relatives is not "reasonably necessary", but the legislation will have to change to permit the activities likely to be allowed from 29 March.0

In Scotland local is stay within your local authority area. That gives plenty of scope for the Highland area.0

If holidays within the UK are allowed after 12 April ( that will only happen if the government is satisfied its four tests are being met)
then the stay local guidance would presumably end then too?0
