OS Saturday 8th December 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sat 8th Dec 07. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.

Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier! When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Hi Guys...just got in...dirty stop out!!

It twas indeed a surprise do, but they surprised us at the restaurant. I burst into tears as it has just been a rough few weeks.months and was so touched that they arranged all this. 15 of our best mates turned up and we had a great evening. I had to keep going out for fresh air as I wasnt feeling too good. I kept apologising but I was told to "shut up":rotfl: I nearly keeled (sp) over when the bill for £990 plus tip came out:eek:    I only had a coke to drink....honest..but that was £3.50! No one would let us pay and everyone chipped in. We then went back to friends house for pudding which was a HM exact replica of our original wedding cake...just one layer though. It was devine and have come away with half of it.

I am truly blessed to have such good friends. We had some lovely pressies bought including £350 in M&S vouchers...so the gift cards will be used in the sales. Some devine snobby smellies, posh cooking oils, candles..loads of other stuff.

I am so tired, I need my bed and sleeping tablet.

I feel fabulous and really needed to be with my friends this evening. Not a family member (apart from nephew and his wife) in sight:D

Anyway, hugs too and sorry for rambling.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday. Dont forget your mealplans:p

    Hi all,

Not quite sure which thread to post on this morning.

taplady, I hope that you're feeling better today and that ds isn't too sore.
stefejb, sorry to hear that dd was upset...I hope you both get a lie in this morning.
Penny-Pincher, glad you had a good night.
Snowy, enjoy your new TV. "H'bo JunkHead"...I love it!:rotfl:
Aussie, I hope your head isn't too sore today and you are spoiling oh in prep for his op.
Haribo, I was to remind you of something this morning, but after your comments on yesterday's thread I don't think I'll bother now. :D:p

thriftmonster, thanks for the heads up about the Continental Market. I took your advice and decided to give it a miss and we went late night shopping instead. It was lovely and Christmassy and because it was a Friday night in December there were no crowds. :D

I got three bargain toys for our nieces and nephews in Tesco. They have 25% off all toys and 3 for 2 on some games. So I ended up with three gifts originally costing £59.91 for £24.96 :j Then I went to superdrug and got three of these for teenage nieces, reduced to half price and also on 3 for 2...total price for all three £12.98 :j Both of these were mentioned on the Grabbit board so if you need to buy anything, it's well worth popping over there to have a look first.

Later today, I need to do more shopping but will try to get out early to avoid the crowds. We are both meant to be going out to lunch with all the parents who turn out every week to support Ds1's rugby team but as one of us needs to look after the boys Mr Pink is going on his own. I think I'll spend the time watching something Chrismassy on TV with ds2 and get some present wrapping done. Tea tonight is tuna steaks so I need to look up something interesting to do with them.

Off to make a hot drink and try to get back to sleep....

I hope you all have a great Saturday.

  • Morning PP, Donny-gal, Pink-Winged and all those yet to get up! PP, I'm so glad you had a wonderful evening, what fantastic friends you have. Pink, those spa sets look really nice, pity I've been super efficient and finished all my shopping already:rotfl:

Well, I've been MIA for a few weeks I think, have had a rotten time, started off with an abscess on my tooth (big ouch), followed by a dramatic and hideous allergic reaction to something (unknown, but really, really hoping it's not food-related, especially at this time of year!), topped off with a root canal treatment on the naughty tooth (still sore). Anyway I'm back to almost 100 percent fighting fitness now, thank goodness, apart from the prospect of the second dental appointment on Friday. At least I've avoided (so far) the dreaded cold and sickness bug that seems to have floored more people lately.

Today I have to get on and finish writing my Christmas cards and get them stamped ready for posting next week. I also need to start wrapping a few pressies because I suspect that the biggest baby in the house (aged 51) has been snooping  . Tonight is the choir's Christmas concert, DD23 is playing in the accompanying orchestra so a bit of a family occasion.

Am still desperately trying to empty my freezer in readiness for the Christmas goodies; have managed to stash a box of mince pies (HM of course!) in there but there's very little room for anything else. And this is after we've eaten all the odds and sods stashed in there, made for some very strange meals this week:rotfl: but we've all survived.

Taplady, hope your DS is feeling better today - what a horrible shock for you, something I dread every time one of mine disappear out of the door waving car keys. Hugs to you.

    Have a lovely day everyone!

    Good morning all.

PENPIN - what a wonderful evening you had. You have lovely friends and they obviously thoroughly enjoyed spoiling you. It just goes to show what a lovely lady you must be.

MRS FLITTERSNOOP - you poor thing. I'm so glad you're firing on all four cylinders again but you've been through it, especially dentally; you'll be able to enjoy Christmas with no toothache now.

Well, again, so sorry, TAPLADY, about yesterday's awful shock with DS's accident. I hope you are both feeling a bit better this morning. Your nerves must be shot to pieces now. You never stop worrying about the children, no matter how old they are. My DS2 recently said he wanted to get a motorbike. He had one when he was 17 - just a little one; he came off it within six weeks, snapping a finger, which involved an emergency op and nearly finished me off. He has been saving up this year for one but, now that he and his GF have their own house, they've decided to spend the money on a new kitchen in the New Year. When they told me, it made me cry with relief. Hope your DS is soon recovered.

Thanks to those who told me when the latest posting dates are (and were) for Oz, Canada and so on.

Well, my DH and I were so tired last night; we kept dozing off in front of the TV - felt really middle-aged. We tried to recall how we used to spend Friday evenings when we first met -going out dancing with boundless energy, then staying up talking through the night! Where did all that go?

I feel refreshed after a good night's sleep so I'm ready to tackle the Christmas tree today.:xmastree: :j :j I always think it will only take an hour or so and it always takes all day because I get carried away with adding bits. I always decorate a little corner shelf in the hall, as well, and the dining room, and the windowsill in the loo, so it will be a work in progress for another week. I must pick some holly from the garden, as well. It never has berries so I have to improvise with red ribbons. We want to get it all done for the grandchildren to see when they visit tomorrow. Now that my two have left home, I miss them decorating their own mini-trees in their rooms.

Anyway, that's today's main plan, plus finishing off my Christmas cards and getting some more wrapping up done. My mum will be staying with us, so I need to get her Christmas stocking finished. We will be picking her up from Wiltshire on the Sunday before Christmas and my brother will be taking her home. Unfortunately, she has to go back home on Boxing Day, because she has to see the eye consultant the following morning. She has recently been diagnosed with glaucoma and the last lot of eyedrops didn't have any effect - except to cause her pain - so she needs to keep this appointment. We shall make sure she is spoilt when she is with us. She stayed last Christmas and she likes to get up early to make a cuppa to take back to bed; it's a long walk from the bedrooms, down the stairs to the kitchen, so this year we shall set up a kettle with everything she needs to make a pot of tea in her room. A little luxury, but she's worth it.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is pretty horrendous. My DS1 is supposed to be going for a 10k run, so that may get called off. DS2 and his GF are going to London today with a group of friends. They are visiting as many museums as they can fit in. I think they're leaving quite early and going by train, so I hope the weather is OK for them.

Well, I'm going to have another cuppa so see you all later.

    Have a great Saturday, everyone.

Morning. Man is it wet and soggy out there. Really horrible.
We went to a weddign reception last night which was nice. Loads of free booze and food. Some left a bottle of champagne on my table and I treated it as my own personal stash... Nice evening.
I did manage some shopping in Plymouth yesterday, but I found it very hard work.. Loads of stuff and all very similar.
I know right after Christmas it will have half price.
I don't know what to do today, we still have to get a few things. My sis in law is coming over later, so more food and drink...:o

My new camera came in the post yesterday so I am well pleased. The only down side is I ordered a memory card from elsewhere and it has not arrived yet. Bit disapointing that...

I don't think I will take the dog for a walk, but I might drive to the paper shop to get the Daily Mail with FREE SCROOGE DVD

    My favourite Christmas film...

    Cheers folks

  • Good morning everyone

Pen-Pin what wonderful friends you have. Make sure you treat yourself with some of those gift cards.
taplady hope you and your poor DS are feeling better today. What a shock for you all.
mrs flittersnoop OUCH! What a rough time you've had. Hope you don't have an allergic reaction to anything that you might indulge in over Christmas. ;)
mioliere like you, I'm hoping to put the tree up today but I need to ask XDH very nicely (which is *very* hard for me at the moment but less said about that the better) if he will get it down from the attic along with all the decs. I think it will take all afternoon as DD is helping and she loves to drawwwwww these things out. She is also planning on making some scones today so I think we may have a scone with a :coffee: once we have finished as a reward.

Like you, Pink, we are going shopping so we will be leaving in about half an hour so that I can get parked up and inside M&S for 8.45 (I think they open at 8.30). Don't intend to stay long in town as I just cannot handle all the crowds and how miserable people become at this time of year.

((((hugs)))) to all those recovering, feeling poorly, with bad news, under the weather or just fed up.

DS is *still* in the shower so I must go and chivvy him along. Have a super Saturday. xx

    Morning Everyone.
What horrible weather! Wet and windy and they have given it worst for tommorow, oh the joy footy in the rain!!!!:o

Plans for today, Dh wants to clean his car as he has sold it!!!!!!:j To my best friend which hes quite pleased about as he really wanted it to go to someone who would look after it (as hes still i think a little sad about selling it, but he knows we dont need it any more and will make a huge finacial difference only having 1 car:D ).

Plus he plans on using the money from the sale of the car towards a new HD tv, he must think im silly i know the only reason he wants HD is so he can save up for a PS3!!!!!!!!!
He thinks i pay no attention when hes talking to the kids about ps3 and quality of hd ect ect, he forgets im a woman and hear and know everything!!;) ;) :rotfl:

Last night he put up a door curtain which has made a huge difference, it also makes the hallway look more cosy.
I typed up my Xmas shopping list a roughly priced it up which has lead me to think im going over the top again, so going to relook at meal plan and maybe cut back, but then again may not it is xmas after all, and we cut back all year round since going on the DMP so may just have a blow out and buy all the goodies i dont normally!!

DD was aloud to stay in school aparantly lots of children have been suffering with unknown spots that have only been lasting 24 hours, ds1 was off again i phoned doctors who said it is the back end of the sickness bug thats going around that is causeing his stomach pains, and he should be fine by the end of the weekend, i hope so hes only been in school for 1.5 days this week, and i need them at school so i can do the Santa thing!!!

Right guys off to start the day, i cleaned all upstairs windows and kitchen ceiling yesterday so plan on continuing my pre xmas clean up with scrubbing kitchen floor and walls and doing the downstairs windows.
Sorry for long post, have a lovely day everyone and huge hugs to Taplady and ds ((())

    Morning everyone:santa2:

It's very wet and miserable outside this morning.

I'm feeling down in the dumps too, tbh. My mum phoned last night and told me she wants to die - she has been feeling like it for weeks. Perhaps it's because christmas is coming up and there are no children at home anymore, I don't know, but it was very hard to hear.

I also have my hospital test results in a few days and although I am trying to keep on top of things, inside my stomach is churning.

Anyway, I don't want to put a damper on things, so back to today and we have scones to make - cheese for DD1 and fruit for DD2. Has anyone made a swiss roll before? I had bought some smart price chocolate rolls for the girls to do yule logs - they are only 15p each, but it would be nice if they could make them from scratch. I've got the recipe just not sure whether they would turn out right.

I also need to sort my meal plan for this week, I've a good idea what we will be having - tonight it's salmon and jackets for DD2 and myself, HM meatballs and rice for DD1.

If the weather eases, we will be going to mom and dads. They don't live in the same town, so it's an hour's travel on the train, but perhaps mom just needs some company right now.

Glad you had a lovely evening Penny-Pincher

Good to hear you are feeling better now mrs flittersnoop

I like scrooge too N9eav so will be going to pick up the mail.

Have a nice day all. :grouphug: HUGS :grouphug: to all who need one today.

    Pipkin xxxx
