My fixed price contract was due to end in December this year. After this morning's price hike email I decided to shop around and have this evening switched to another provider. I've now received an email from TalkTalk advising me that it will cost me £92.32 in early exit fees.

Quote them the small print from the email they sent you....
You can choose to leave us before 1st April 2021 without any charges. After this date, there will be an early termination charge if you cancel your broadband within your minimum contracted term. This must be done via phoning TalkTalk Customer Services.

  • When is a fixed price contract not a fixed price contract? A. When it is with TalkTalk!
I took out an 18 month fixed price contract with TalkTalk in September 2020.  I am now faced with £2/month increase from April 21 to March 22.  If I move within the next 30 days, no exit fee but from April 21 to March 22 an exit fee would apply.  TalkTalk are now offering a Fixed Price deal? I thought I had one!
What a despicable management action.  Despite the sugary wording, this is nothing other that an opportunist price hike.

If you contact them you should, if insistent, get them to agree to give you a £2 pm credit to the account.

But I agree with you.  This is a despicable way for a company to behave, and it says a lot about the way it’s run.

Usually these fixed price contracts include the option to raise prices . But nobody bothers to read .
  • I discussed this on TT forum and it came to light that in contract small print section 16.2 they have slipped in that they can basically ignore any agreement for no price increase for business purposes!!!
So to my mind the price promise by TT not to increase for contractual term is complete rubbish and worthless.
  • Also btw, the business reason is they have more customers and greater demand so they as a business can increase charges.
Now I have run my own business and more customers and demand means more profit, not an excuse to put up prices.

My parents who are in their 80's are currently paying £21.95 on TalkTalk for the Faster Fibre Broadband (around 65mb/s) - prior to this they were paying more - but there was a Black Friday Deal for brand new customers offering Fibre for £21.95 and after a lot of complaining we got them to price match.
I have no issues with TalkTalk - it's reliable, Fast and the Router gives a good signal - but these constant price hikes, etc are annoying.
My father just got an email saying there will be s £2 increase to his bill and once the contract runs out the price will jump to £27.50p per month - that's a big increase for someone who is retired and relies on his internet to stay in touch with family since he can't leave the home due to a stroke + COVID Lockdowns.
I read there might be a way to register people as venerable and perhaps avoid a price increase?
I'm not 100% sure what date his contract runs out - is there an easy way to see this date on the account?
but if he can change to a new provider before 1st April we might do that as there's several for around £23 - was thinking of Now Broadband which I believe is own by Sky TV?
Also I believe when their contract runs out the price will be £27.50 for them - which is 28% more then they pay now

*The monthly price of Fast broadband will increase by £2 from April 2021. The price will then rise in April each year by the rate of inflation plus 3.7%, from 2022. The monthly price of Fibre 35 and Fibre 65 broadband will rise in April each year by the rate of inflation plus 3.7%, from 2022. Price rise does not apply when selecting Fixed Price Plus. So should we assume that with these crooks ‘fixed price’ means it’s not a fixed price unless the word ‘plus’ also appears?
