Thank you all. Gin was taken about 8pm - medicinal purposes you understand 🤣
Today's plan is to take the HT's partner to the bus stop as it's early but he has to be in work this morning. Then I'm going to do some baking as the cake tin is empty. There will be lunch (made by me) with best friend at mid day then I'm taking my friend to one of our local garden centres. I'm not sure what his plans are but my plan is to not spend any money.
The HT had some lovely messages from his teachers about what a delight he was to teach and so on. His form tutor emailed me last night to say how much she is going to miss us and how good he was at making her laugh even probably when she shouldn't. I'm glad that I made him go back in yesterday even though I wanted to leave him at the roadside at several points during the day.
Time to get started.....4 -
Good morning....yesterday was a sort of NSD. I didn't spend anything all day. I went to the garden centre with best friend and managed not to buy anything. After I dropped the Looked after Person home in the evening I went and had a look at the plants outside of the supermarket close by. There was a verbena for £1 and a pale pink fushia for £2 so I talked myself into them. I didn't want to pay for such a small amount with my bank card so I bought a £3 scratchcard too. I can count the number of times in my life that I have bought a scratchcard on the fingers of one hand......Anyway, I won £10 on it so the plants were free and I'm in profit.
It's been a strange week moneywise. It started on Sunday when I had the email telling me I'd won a prize on the lotto. £51 withdrawn to my bank account, yay. Small prize but happy with that. I had an emal from experian on Monday and I looked at the pre approved loans. I could have transferred all of my debt to one loan at a low interest rate but advice on here is do not consolidate and to be honest committing to a regular payment that big is a bit scary so I have been pondering over it. Experian updated today, my rating has shot up and I've transferred both of my credit card balances to 0% for 26 months. I can pay them off during that time with the safety net of knowing that I don't have to if something goes wrong. It was worth waiting that extra 2 days. The balance transfer fee will be less than the interest that I would have paid.
I also had an email from HMRC this morning telling me that my tax calculaton has been done - I applied for the backdated working from home allowance last month. I've logged on and there is a refund due of £61.80 so I've appled to have that sent to my bank account.
My loan is still running but the annual statement received yesterday tells me that I have reduced my loan term by 5 months this year by overpaying. It's been a good week financially and it's only Wednesday! A lot of small victories have really helped. Oh and there's the HT's love2shop vouchers from his school award. We feel as though we may squander that £10 on ice cream 😊3 -
A very good financial week indeed 😁I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

Oh go for it!
Your post made me feel so good, like I won, I might buy a scratch card today 😁
I can't remember if you shop at Lidl, last week I tried their ice cream for the first time and it was very nice. I had a vanilla Cornetto like one and a caramel-coffe pot wich were both delicious.01.12.2020 - CC £16,839 / Loan £18,820 / EF £0

That's a pretty amazing week! I will have to keep coming back to see what else you have in store.
'Free' plants are especially good in my book - and you may be able to keep the fuchsia going form year to year.
Well done to the HT for his award too.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

So just for you @Cherryfudge ..... an envelope arrived in the post for the HT this morning for an award that school "forgot" to give to him. I thought that the HT could do with some fresh air so we went to Iceland with the £20 of love2shop vouchers. Ben and Jerry's ice cream was on offer 2 tubs (normally £4.20 each) for £5 so....4 tubs of B&J £10, 2 ham and cheese snack attax (small box snack with plastic cheese etc) £2, a box of 6 chocolate ice cream cones for my looked after person £1, a box of Iceland own version of white magnum for me £1, a tub of nutella for HT's partner (he's skinny and eats it with a spoon) £2, a bag of battered chicken strips £3 and a bag of giant claw monster munch £1. Total spent £20, total value £25.80 or thereabouts and the cost to us was zero!. The HT is beyond pleased with himself. He feels like he's been able to treat us all thanks to his hard work.
We also went to Home Bargains for bin liners, tissues, antihistamine and (for HT's partner) blister plasters. £10.58 spent but that won't break the bank and in view of the loot from Iceland we're both quietly pleased. It could be viewed as wasting the vouchers but school is finished for now, the ice cream will last a while, it'll save me having to try and accomodate a treat in the grocery shopping and anyway, he's earned it. Just GCSE results day to wait for now. In view of the awards I'd like to think he's passed something 😂2
