I've only just come across this forum regarding the switch to EDF for those who were with GNE. I see there are 53 pages! I'm too old to read them all so please forgive me. The minute I became aware that GNE had failed back in January I stopped my Direct Debit to GNE. I know that everyone said I shouldn't do this, but it was MY MONEY which would have been taken by a firm which had ceased trading. I've always been aware that when a firm goes belly up the assets are shared amongst their creditors, a list is prepared and the first who are paid off with what's left are the banks. People like me, oridinary people*, come at the bottom of the list and get what might be left. I considered that continuing to pay GNE was not a good idea. It was decided by Ofgem that EDF, a FRENCH firm would take over the accounts of GNE customers! How they came to make this decision is anyone's guess and it is unlikely we 'ordinary peoiple' will ever know. Was Ofgem told by EDF what tariffs would be used? Certainly those of us being transferred to EDF were NOT being made aware of the tariffs. We were told we would be pleasantly surprised. The tariffs have only recently come to light so wnat influenced Ofgem to choose EDF as the most suitable candidate? I wonder if anyone at Ofgem is aware that since Britain's escape from the clutches of the EU the president of France has decided to try and make things as difficult as possible for Britain and the British? So I'm in a situation where I owe money for Gas and Electricity which arrives along the same pipes and bits of wire that it has always done. I have been in frequent communication with EDF in order to settle up what I owe, but they don't want this to happen as clearly they want to keep me on the high cost tariff they have stuck me with for as long as possible. In order to do this I am told that GNE are not passing on the rquired information, it's not the fault of EDF. Really? I read my meters the day of the announcement that GNE had failed, of course I have copies of my GNE bills. My last bill was december and I realise the credit I had would have been absorbed by the cost of my energy up until the time of GNE's failure. I have made frequent attampts to pay off what I owe but EDF don't want my money it seems.A little while ago I noticed my smart meter indoor monitor sprung into life showing I had become 'live' (I read my meters again) but I still can't set up Direct Debiting because EDF can't or perhaps don't want the information from GNE. I have lost patience and set up a switch to another supplier. No doublt EDF will put up all sorts of difficulties to stop this taking place.I hope I will be forgiven for the spelling mistakes.* I use the term 'ordinary people'; this was introduced at the turn of the millenium by Hon Member F Dobson who, as a special guest was TAKEN to the New Years celebration at the dome. He remarked how nice it was to be able to watch the 'ordinary people' who had to use public transport and queue up.0

@Jacklx It has indeed been a very frustrating time and Edf are not coming out of this very well. I wonder why the procedure can't be like a normal change of supplier.
As I recall the new tariffs were published very early on - I am on Welcome 5 which does compare with my GNE tariff.
Things are crawling along - I have an account number but the system has been stuck at awaiting a meter check for weeks. The DD is set up and the first payment has just been taken and this is shown on my account. I can't give meter readings.
Interestingly my tariff has a end date of 31 Jan 2029 I wonder if I can hold them to this ? (I'll answer my own question - not in a month of Sundays)
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Just been on live chat as there are no options to set up direct debit even though account now live. Along the way it stated that the end date of 31 Jan 2029 is wrong.

Today (5th) finally received my GNE final bill. After all the delay and worry I can only say that EDF have done what they were supposed to. I always monitor my energy usage and costs (for comparison in choosing next provider) and I have to say every detail is exactly as it should be except for six days where the standing charge is different from any specified, a few pence, easily compensated by EDF's lower standing charge in following months. Lower prices and standing charge and correct billing including GN balance means I am happy for the moment. If this translates correctly on to EDF's first bill then have to say "well done - eventually".1
