Sorry I meant EDF. I have already set the account up and was at the first stage last time I logged in.

Since my post of 29 April, the muddles are getting worse. I can log into my EdF account, and it displays stage 4, all sorted, you're with EdF from 29 April, and thanks for your meter readings. No mention of who, when, will issue a closing bill from GNE. EdF have also set up a direct debit, and taken (reasonable) first payments. GNE went on taking direct debits until March, and I calculate I owe them £50 or so.
Today I phoned EdF to chase a closing bill from GNE. Got through instantly. Chap revealed that EdF have, without telling me, accepted an estimated closing electricity meeting from GNE which is way over the true reading they had from me on 29 April (and stil way over  the reading today). I photographed the electricity meter reading and emailed the photo to him; he SAID (but I have little faith in this) that EdF will now challenge GNE's wrong guess. He repeated the line that EdF has to wait for GNE's administrators to send them a (purported) final bill, which GNE will forward to me on the administrators' behalf, the closing debit or credit being carried over into my EdF account.
Meanwhile I had formally complained to Ofgem that their statement that GNE ceased trading end January is wrong, because the administrators have in fact continued trading (as I believe is their right). I have received a non-reply from Ofgem which completely misses the point.

So far the only communication I have had regarding this was way back in February when the Money Saving Expert team emailed that I was now too late cancel & that although I was with GNE they had gone bust & they had set up a DD with my bank, which I promptly cancelled. I was advised EDF would take over the account in due course. It now mid May & still not heard anything from EDF?

It sounds as though your a week and a half ahead of me. My contract start date is 7th May, gas is Stage 4 but electricity is still Stage 3.

My DD is set up, first payment due early June. I was paying GNE until April and I think I owe them too (Jan to Apr being high consumption months).

This shouldn't really be an issue for you (or me, if the same happens) in practice. If GNE's inflated closing estimates are accepted, we just get energy pre-paid at GNE's unit rate which (for me) are pretty close to EDF's rates (slightly higher for electricity, slightly lower for gas). If they're out by 1000kWh in my case it'll only make a £9 difference.

Out of interest ,I challenged a similar situation when I went thru an SOLR experience in 2018 but for even less difference - I ended up getting £80 compensation as they dragged out the arguments over the correct closing reading for 18 months !!!

I agree that I won't pay more, overall, if EdF accept GNE's inflated guess of our final meter reading(s). But our apparent usage between this inflated reading and EdF's first bill (in September?), based (I will attempt to ensure!) on accurate meter readings, will be lower than EdF has budgeted for, and their setting of their monthly direct will, I fear, then get confused.
More importantly, IF EdF are blindly accepting LOTS of inflated final meter readings from the GNE administrators, then EdF is in effect making improper gifts to GNE's creditors. This would not amuse EdF's shareholders, and (I hope only in theory) might make EdF go under too!

Well you're ahead of me. My display is still at stage 3, supply started 27 April.
I've given EDF meter readings 3 times so far, and they're still asking for them!
As for a DDM, I can't set one up, apparently my account has to be at stage 4 before this can be done. I've not an issue with building up a large bill but for some folk that's gonna be a big problem when it comes to payment
EDF are certainly making a 'dogs dinner' out of the GNE transfer

OK, so since GNE went, I have no visibility of the substantial account credit balance and have had no bills nor paid anyone else (stopped the direct debit).  I have now received the new (extortionate) tariff details from EDF.
What is the process to just change elsewhere?  Can I simply use the comparison sites like in the past?
I am thinking to do that, and then pursue the refund of the credit balance (hoping it has been offset by energy not paid for since).
The idea to stay on the EDF high rate until September in the anticipation of a "price-promise" refund seems futile, especially considering that promise could be kept but equally as slowly managed as the migration and the tariff between the "price promise" date and the "price promise" being sorted could be another extortionate rate that EDF pick.

I don;t think you can switch from EDF until you've finished joining them. What stage of the switch process does EDF's website think your gas and/or electricity account(s) are at?
