I am at stage 3 in the registration process. I started the registration on the 19/4/21.
On the 29/4/21 I received an email from Edf requesting a meter reading by the 26/4/21 otherwise they would estimate my opening meter reading. I contacted edf chat on the 29th and I was assured the date deadline in the e-mail was an error and that they would accept my meter reading which I duly gave. I was assured that everything was in order.
Last night I rec'd this e-mail from Edf:
"The acquisition process has begun for your EDF Energy Electricity account. We're currently in the process of contacting your previous supplier to agree an accurate opening meter reading and this process can take between 6 to 8 weeks. As soon as a meter reading has been agreed, your account will be amended and the revised reading will show on your next bill. Please note that you don't have to take any further action. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please be assured that every effort is being made to resolve this issue as soon as possible."
Also my online acct page states: " We’re about to register"
You should have received your welcome pack and we are continuing to register your supply. Unfortunately we didn’t receive your meter reading in time. Don’t worry. We’ll agree an estimate opening reading with your old supplier to open your account.
I contacted Edf last night and was told this is a normal response and is in line with industry standards. I tried to explain that the reason I missed the meter deadline was because the email edf had sent to me was already 3 days after the required date. I eventually gave up arguing the case as we were just going round in circles. Has anyone else had similar issues and if so what was the outcome?
I have the tele number for complaints, but don't know if I should contact them or just wait another 6-8 weeks before my account is at stage 4 "All done"
Any advice would be appreciated

@rags58 Just sit it out - it will come out in the wash.
Edf do seem to have made hard work of this and are not doing themselves any favours and are creating work for themselves like @rags58 has found out. Some of the correspondence seems to have been lifted from the standard emails you get when you apply as a new consumer ie ,meter reads but don't really apply to a forced transfer. With 350,000 customers I would have hoped they would have used purpose made emails
You are further down the line than me - just at "Registration In Progress" They do seem to have got my tariff right but no detail; old GNE DD has been cancelled and my Bank has a DD from Edf set up but no DD info from Edf yet. I've got my spreadsheet of meter reads and am slightly in credit.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -

Now that I have this, can I simply change supplier to go elsewhere?0 -
It does seem to have been a more awkward process for the 350K accounts being switched from GNE to EDF, and the large volume of accounts may be a factor, however EDF could have helped their cause with better and more regular communication with the affected customers. As @Robin9 pointed out, copying and pasting correspondence from standard new customer emails, as opposed to specific purpose SoLR type emails has only added to the bewilderment, confusion, and concern for some people. For my own situation, I am registered on the myedfenergy.com portal, and my contract tracker status is at stage 3 for Meter reading check for both gas and electricity. My contract start date shows as 13/05/2021 for both Gas and Electricity.I have submitted meter readings for both Gas and Electricity in the last 24 hours.I am assuming that I remained on GNE tariffs until 12 May 2021, however my GNE fixed tariff expired on 6 April 2021, after GNE went into administration, and arguably after I became an EDF customer, so I'll have to keep an eye on the final GNE bill to make sure I have not been reverted to a pricey standard variable tariff between 6 April - 12 May 2021.I have not received a Welcome Pack as yet, but I received two EDF emails earlier this week stating that a direct debit had been setup for EDF Energy for my nominated bank account. Email one referred to the direct debit amount for the Electricity account, email two referred to the direct debit combined amount for the Gas account and the Electricity account. The Direct Debit amount is under £1 less than it was on GNE.My last GNE bill was on 4 Jan 2021, and the next one was due at start of April 2021.Like many I would have built up a credit balance on the GNE account, as I didn't cancel the monthly DD, but I know that my energy usage since the last bill will likely have exceeded the credit balance accumulated, so I expect to owe GNE (or EDF on their behalf), a balance payment. There was also a delay in the GNE->EDF account migration for me relating to the cancellation of the old GNE DD and the setting up of the new EDF DD, which resulted in no DD payment for energy being taken in May, so I will expect my energy account to be in debit as a consequence of this. I think it will be a case of letting the dust settle and see what my final GNE balancing bill amounts to after the intervening DD payments are subtracted, and what my EDF account balance is from contract start date...

That's where mine are, I haven't received anything in the post from EDF.

After all this hassle i think i will just stick to the big six in future. I don't think its 'competition' when you have to go through this just to save a couple of quid.1

I don't think its 'competition' when you have to go through this just to save a couple of quid.In this particular case I don't think EDF have done themselves or anybody else any favours in the way this transfer has been handled. However the experience isn't the norm, I used to be with GB Energy that got shifted to the Co-op and that was done relatively quickly. Can't remember if GB had more or less customers though, probably less.If you want to stick with the big six that's up to you but don't' come back and complain you're paying a fortune for your energy. And you can save more than "a couple of quid".0
