Also like others have said, try tuning your tv.  On the remote there should be a MENU button somewhere.  Press that and go through using the arrow keys to find Tuning.  On there it should give you the option to search channels.  Try that before spending any money on new tv.  It may well be your set is a digital set and can pick up freeview from the aerial on the roof,

I found this..it may not be your exact tv, but the instructions should be the same.  I suspect your tv does has freeview capability already..give it a go and try tuning in

  • PZ19, thanks, I tried that link, I can't get into the settings on the TV, when I press TV on the remote, the TV screen is snowy
I'm hopeless with technology, in addition, I suffer with MH issues, what may appear simple, I struggle with, may I ask, please be patient, thank you

Will you still have the Internet after leaving virgin? If so you could buy a firestick from Amazon that makes tv a smart tv.  All that means is it gives you access to apps such as Now Tv, Apple TV, Netflix etc that requires a subscription.  One good tip with now tv is you get a free 7 day trial then you can cancel and more often than not they will offer you a deal at cheaper price for 6 months.  You will need the Internet though for now tv

PZ19, no I won't have internet after next week, I'm thinking of joining Plusnett, average 60mg is roughly what I need £24.99pm

Amazon / ROKU sticks are confusing, not sure which one I need

Have you got the aerial lead plugged into the wall and to the back of the tv at the other end?  Is there a neighbour in another flat that could help you?  Can I ask why you got rid of virgin but then going to spend £25 on plusnet a month? Virgin could have got somewhere near that price for far quicker Internet.  I would forget the sticks at the minute, just concentrate on trying to make sure you can actually get a tv signal from your aerial.  On the remote do you have a source button? It may say AV on it. Press that till you get to TV setting and then press Menu button to find the tuning menu.  It may be a good idea to unplug the TV for 30 seconds and then plug it back it in.
  • PZ19, I cancelled VM due to the price increase, my package (TV matrix, BB, phone, evening / weekend calls, increased from £74pm to almost £80pm
When I cancelled, VM offered 100mg BB @£29.00, some posters on here mentioned 100mg @£29pm was to expensive, so, I cancelled it.
I'm going to buy a new TV with freeview, £139.00 is within my price range, I'm now I'm looking for a new BB deal, just looked a Plusnet 50/60mg @£24.99 would suit my needs, I only use internet for browsing, very little downloading / uploading,

Ah ok, £29 is not that bad a price, it’s just others that have cancelled have got a better price.  Once you cancel they normally ring you back with far better price to stay.  I assume they haven’t done that in your case.  I would definitely try and check that the aerial works before buying a new tv.

with the Internet you will need a Bt phone line to the flat.  Have a look at this link on here

This is more expensive tv, but it is a smart tv, it is £189 if you enter the code 10TVSAVE at checkout https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertainment/televisions/televisions/samsung-ue32t4300akxxu-32-smart-hd-ready-hdr-led-tv-10207649-pdt.html
  • PZ19, I really appreciate your time and help.
I have a BT line into my flat, although at the moment, my line is with VM
The £139.00 TV mentions freeview, I take it the £189.00 TV freeview is included, as it's not mentioned on the advert

The TV screen will be snowy as you haven't tuned the television yet. Make sure you connect to coax cable from the socket to the TV first.

Press the button on the remote that says TV/DTV and then press the Menu Button. If the Menu doesn't come up first time then press TV/DTV again and then press Menu again.

Once you get the Menu choose Installation and then First Time Installation.

    Explained here.

All TVs today have Freeview built in as that's the default nowadays. There are some TVs that work from a satellite dish but not that many.
