Do you need a new tv?
No, not necessarily, the TV now (Hitachi) is about 10yrs old, it doesn't have any of todays features, Freeview, Smart TV etc., etc.,

I'll go out on a limb here and say that your TV does have Freeview. It's the standard - all TVs have Freeview (unless it's a specific model with Freesat instead). It might not have Freeview HD, but it'll have Freeview. :)
    I would agree with that.

We have a 13 year old Samsung tv that came with Freeview but nothing more. I've got a Roku Streaming 4k + stick plugged into an hdmi port which covers everything apart from Britbox to provide the Smart features. It does everything I need.

    Thanks Jenni & Neil

I'm learning as I'm going along here

OK, the model of my TV is Hitachi 26LD2600, I also have the serial number

TV is through Virgin media, not sure how I find out of it has freeview

I'm hopeless with technology, in addition, I suffer with MH issues, what may appear simple, I struggle with, may I ask, please be patient, thank you

I assume you have a TV aerial with a corresponding aerial socket?
Example wall socket for aerial connection:

Example socket on back of TV (ANT.):

Use a coax cable (male to male) to connect these together and then select the DTV input on your TV. You should then be able to retune via your remote to see all the available channels.

PS - I wasn't able to find any specs online for your TV model.

Personally i would have a quick browse of the sales at Richer Sounds before buying anything .
  • Thanks for all the helpful replies
Jenni, Neil, there's no cable lead from the TV socket into the TV
All cables are through the wall, into the VM box
I suffer with MH issues, hence, why I struggle with technology

  • Hi JJ,
I going to buy a new TV, does that lead go straight from the TV ariel socket into the TV?

Yes it does - it plugs into the ANT. connection on the TV (using the example I posted previously). :)

Do you actually have a TV aerial? Have you checked? (It is probable that you do, but not guaranteed).

  • Yes Jenni, I'm saying yes, I live in a flat, with a communal Ariel on the roof

I'm going to buy the lead posted by JJ above

Freeview was launched back in 2002, so a 2010 TV will have it. Unless you want Smart TV functions and subscription channels, all you need is a co-ax lead from TV to aerial socket.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
