No meter readings for two years

Now, this step is REALLY IMPORTANT
We need to know how much you have actually paid each provider throughout the contract through your direct debits.
The easiest way to find this is to look at your BANK STATEMENTS and add up the total payments from EON (for the duration of your contract on THIS house), EDF (for the duration of your contract), and now shell.
Please also provide the gas bills for EDF and whatever electricity bill/summary you have for shell, if you have any.
If you provide all of these things, we can work out how much you've paid, how much you owe and therefore how much you have left to pay. This way, if it comes to a dispute you have a reasoned argument as to why you should pay a certain amount.
Right, i'm going to lie down now, my head hurts. Hope that helps.3 -
Nick - you really do need to thank theguru for the work he has done. There is some light at the end of the tunnel.
Lets see if we can clear the GAS aspect where at least we have some clearer info - there are gaps but at least we know the latest reading of 3678.
Have you given Shell that reading as I asked you to do yesterday.? When you get that bill please post it including the money pages.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Like @niktheguru I have been putting your numbers into a spreadsheet, and I agree with him on all points. Here is my version of the GAS situation:-Since the closing reading (00123) on 18/9/19 to today's reading (03678) on 27/1/21 there have been 497 days. The number of cubic metres consumed has been 3555. Using Shell Energy's tariff as shown on the bill, that is 39,082kWh and that much gas would have cost £1,010. (including standing charge and VAT)Of that amount £324.75 will be billed by Shell for the period from 2/1/21 to 27/1/21 (25 days) as a catch-up bill when you give them the accurate reading of 03678.To apportion the consumption between EDF and Shell you need to know the EDF closing reading which should be the same as the Shell opening reading. To calculate how much is owed to EDF we need to know the changeover date from EDF to Shell, (11/9/20 ?) and the EDF tariff (Simply Online 1 Year Fix Sep20v4), as well as what payments you made to EDF.I realise this isn't very good news, but it is really a swamp-draining exercise which has to be gone through. When all the facts are known, you can ask Shell to spread the "catch-up" costs across the next 12 months to soften the blow.1

Thank you all for your continued help. I haven't slept at all the past two weeks, feel a bit better now that things are looking clearer.
Robin I have submitted the gas readings & Ill wait for an updated bill
1. @niktheguru the date Eon took over on my new house was actually 17th December, I have attached the bill to show this & left half my address. My wife was in charge of the energy at the time (before signing up to energy club) & just mentioned that for the first 6 weeks of moving in to our home, Ovo were supplying us on a really high tariff & sent us a hefty bill, which my wife said she queried & they admitted they miscalculated & swiped the bill for us. Is this information needed? I dont know where them bills are?
2. From the above spreadsheet, is it the not provided fields you need? Should I send these bills over?
3. You stated that someone came out to take meter readings? Just checked with wife & we don't recall anyone coming out for meter readings. It was all done manually by ourselves before the smart meters were put on.
4. The gas readings for edf are confusing me on the bill so I will if thats ok upload these bills.
Again thank you so much for your help. I still have no clue with so these bills so its highly appreciated0 -
Right, I think I've found the issue while cropping all the bills. It looks like we've had a refund from EDF that we've missed 😳😳🙈🙈!!. I don't know how we've missed thst. We thought the final bill was the £630!!! Is that why that bill is so high??! We are going to check through all bank statements tomorrow with every payment in a spreadsheet.
Here are all EDF bills....

That's a great piece of history. Fills in the blanks about the rebate in the gas bill from April 2019. The original opening reading for 17/12/18, which was 14409, was revised downwards to 14296, and the associated charges of £183.97 were cancelled when the bill was recalculated up to 17/4/19. That's all water under the bridge now.0

Nick, in future when you post your bills on here, please try and keep them in chronological order. The edf bills you’ve posted are a bit all over the place in random order with several “final bills” it would be useful to know what date each bill was posted (which is probably on page one of the bills but you obviously omitted those pages)
it looks like you’ve contested the bill a few times so several “revisions” have been done. I doubt your bank has been credited for the electricity credits, it’s more likely that your direct debits were just amended.
I will take a closer look at it tomorrow. Think my brain will hurt if I try get my head round it tonight, maybe someone else will have already done the sums in that time.
it will be useful to know what the total payments and refunds to your bank account were from edf.0 -
Hello. I hope I am being helpful. I have cranked the latest information into my spreadsheet, and I think I have an accurate picture. I have coloured orange the E.ON era, blue the EDF era and Yellow the Shell era. The red numbers for gas in the 2nd column represent the cancelled charges which carried forward as a credit in the next column. Everywhere else the cancelled charges are not shown at all, only the charges which seemed to be the eventual ones after recalculations of various sorts. There are of course no numbers for electricity in the Shell era, because the meter is seemingly faulty, but somehow EDF had a closing reading. There a few places where there is a 1p difference between my spreadsheet calculations and the actual bills. Just the way the rounding works.I have not attempted to incorporate payments into all this. It was enough of a struggle to get the charges straight.0

I have now created a spreadsheet with all my DD from the three suppliers....EOn, EDF & Shell. The yellow area from Eon is my old property.
I do apologise @nikth@niktheguru if everything seems mixed up, I have been using my phone & trying to save these bills & blank out my personal details have been hassle. I now have access to my macbook which has been with my wife in work. So is there anything you need to me do to make it easier? Im still on edge putting bills on here, ive had a few private messages to say im rat risk of ID theft etc.
@jbuch@jbuchanangb thank you very much for all that work, its all still like algebra to me. Are you able to explain what you mean by the red area?0
