Are all these bills for the same house? The electric meter in Nov 18 had a serial number S10R64277 and read 23049; when removed in June 19 2190908 and read 78379 ;and then a smart from June
Between June and Sept 2019 the Electric advanced 01249 ie an "annual" figure of 5,000 kWh.
Yes bill 2 & 3 is my old address. We were only in that address from August to November while wiyk eon. Will that be a a problem?0 -
jbuchanangb said:Certainly it would help to have data more recent than September 2019. As I have maintained spreadsheets for my gas and electricity bills since 1983, I have cranked the OP's bills from February 2019 to September 2019 into them. The calculations in my spreadsheet give the same energy consumption and amounts charged as in those 3 bills, but in 5 columns because two of the bills have an intermediate reading. If the OP can provide more recent data, I can update it.In 229 days OP used 2497 kWh electricity. Could call that 4000 per year. The gas billing covers 275 days, used 14692 kWh, which is 19,500 per year. The EON Statement for energy up to 18 September 2019 indicates a credit balance of £37.56, and is a FINAL bill. That indicates that EON ceased being the supplier, and someone else took over. The readings on that date are from the smart meters, and should be those used by the new supplier, which the OP stated to be EDF.Subsequently another switch took place, from EDF to Shell Energy. The question is, what readings were given by the OP to EDF in September 2019, and then what readings were given to Shell on that switch. It would be helpful to know the readings today.
Guess a huge lesson learned here, don rely on smart meter & make sure before switching.
Shell have now charged us £171 this month when we pay £103 fixed rate. I don't know what is going on. In a right mess.of

At least go and read your meters now. Not the gadget called an In Home Device or IHD.
Put the meter readings on here. One for gas, one for electricity.
You say you have received a bill for £630 from EDF. Put that up on here so that I can see what readings they started with, and what they finished with. When you say you have a "fixed" monthly amount, that is not a flat rate to cover all your energy. That is a guess at what would be a sensible amount to pay each month so as to cover your energy costs for a year with 12 payments. If you were still on the EON tariff from 2019, and amount of £130 per month would cover it. I can't imagine it would be any less nowadays from anyone else. You need to pay enough each month to be sure to pay for a year's energy in 12 payments, otherwise you get into arrears, and your monthly payments have to be increased to catch up. That is probably what has happened with EDF. You weren't paying enough each month to cover your usage, so now you have to pay the arrears.0 -
The device sitting in your home is NOT a smart meter: it is known as the In House Display which connects to a communications hub that is attached to your electricity meter. The IHD uses what is known as a Home Area Network (secure WiFi if you like) to connect to the communications hub. The communications hub connects to the central metering hub either by a direct mobile connection or a Wide Area Network (WAN) depending on your location. It follows that it is possible that you can see your meter readings on the IHD but the supplier cannot see what you are seeing. You can see whether your communications hub is transmitting data to your supplier by signing up to N3rgy.com0

You can see whether your communications hub is transmitting data to your supplier by signing up to N3rgy.comYou are suggesting that someone who cannot tell the difference between a smart meter and an In Home Device, and has switched supplier twice without providing any meter readings, should register with n3rgy.com. Really. To do this you have to negotiate some complex web sites, and enter both your MPAN and the MAC address of the IHD. I did this a couple of days ago, apparently without error, and have so far successfully downloaded two entirely empty files purporting to contain my electricity smart meter data. Let's focus on helping the OP work out what has happened to their billing with EDF and Shell Energy.2

nickgriff, thanks for submitting some of your bills.
Like others have said, providing bills from "other homes" is no use, we need to concentrate on your current home. like jbuchanan has said, from your bills we can see:
1st Feb 19 : 77926
12 June 19: 79174 (when meter was changed to smart meter)
18th Sept 19: 01249
The 18th sept reading is the last accurate reading we have.
This suggests at THAT time, you were using approx 10.85KwH a day. So, 3962KwH a year.
What you now need to provide us, is the bills from EDF (if they have charged you then you WILL HAVE A BILL) and any paperwork from shell. It still bemuses me how you switched to shell without having ever given a reading to edf or at least checked that they had accurate readings on bills!!
If you dont have bills you need to CALL EDF and get the opening and closing meter readings they used.
You also need to contact SHELL and ask what opening readings they have been given and are using.
What you need to provide us with are the following
1. unit rate for elelctricity and standing charge for EDF tariff you were on (it will be on any paperwork or bill you have)
2. Unit rate for electricity and standing charge for shell tariff you are currently on
2. Opening and closing readings from EDF
3. Opening reading from shell
4. Exact dates you were with EDF from and till.
5. Date shell has started your electricity.
6. How much you paid EDF in direct debits for the full term (these will be on your bills. I assume you have dual fuel so your DD will be including the gas as well, which may be confounding how much you owe!)
6. What your current meter reading is. (from the previous post you seem to say the actual meter is not showing anything, try pressing the buttons on it and seeing if it beeps or has anything at all on the display. The meter you took a picture of, not the in home display, as this will not work.
If you provide us with all this info we can work out how much you should owe them0 -
This s why the last person to read my meter said never ever have a smart meter!!! They go wrong and cause problems all the time!!! Also hard to transfer suppliers. So we never had one.0

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
There is no evidence that anything has gone wrong with Nick's smart meters. Until he provides information already requested we can't move forward to assist him further.1
