Thanks Rosekitten: i've got loads of ideas about others its just a case of time to get all bits together and play around with the layers to get the look right.
I can't really help you with a fabric shop for that type of material, but will certainly keep my eyes peeled.0 -
Just a quick question from Poppypops here:-
Im wanting to paint some tin cans ( normal cans that had toms in) and was just wondering what type of paint to use? Im wanting to paint them bright colours to make them into little pots to display daffodils in with some little butterflys as decorations.
Hope someone can help....

Well done with the cake chatty -it looks really good.
rosekitten - the Harry Potter quilt is a brilliant idea and the fabrics you've shown go well with the theme. Can't help with other fabric sites though I'm afraid. Not done anything like that before.
You could have a look on the OS Moneysavers board............there's a Shabby Chic thread on the go and some of them do things with fabrics and might be able to point you in the right direction.,Mary

I would have thought Gloss paint
Crown,Dulux etc would work or i
f you did not want a glossy finish
try satin finish paint it has the advantage
of being quick drying.If you
cant find a colour you like or there
is a particular colour you want
they do sample pots £1.99
on the pick your own colour ranges
in Crown & B&Q.
Also the tester pots they are cheap
and tend to be emulsion paints, but
they are worth a try,you could always
use varnish on top it if you require a
strong finish,satin finish varnish is
the easiest to use.
You could also use spray paint very
often the less popular shades get reduced
especialy in the car paint shades.Although
you would have to be somewhere quite well
ventilated if you are using this.

thanks chatty123 & Mary43
that fabric I bought of ebay was
really rubbish,couldent believe it
when it arrived,I think in nearly
7 years its only the second time I
have been stung.
I would just be gutted if I laid out
a good amount of cash and it turned
out to be poor quality.I know this
quilt is not going to be the cheapest thing
I have made but its the type of thing you
hand down in the family, just the cotton wadding
for it will come in around £25 as I am going
to make it in a traditional way and style
so it will withstand washing and plenty of use.
Had a good look around here for fabric but there
is nothing, its a shame because at one time you
could always find a good fabric / haberbashery
shop in most places.

poppypops - when I've painted tins in the past I've used enamel paint (the sort you get for airfix paints but in bigger tins) I used the glossy ones but you can get matt finish if you prefer it. It served the purpose when I painted a biscuit tin in bright red one Christmas.
rosekitten - you could have a look at this site.http://www.fabricattic.com/ ............don't know anything about it but found the link on a card/craft site and there's quite a varied assortment of fabric. Don't know how prices compare as I don't normally by material.
I'm sure if you ask someone on the Shabby Chic thread on OS Moneysavers there would be someone there who would know a good place to go.
Like you say, it's a big project you're doing, not going to be cheap anyway and you want it to look right.Mary

Im wanting to paint the tins baby pink and baby blue with white polka dots Ive now decided... Ive got some paint in the garage that Im going to trial first before buying anything and wasting it, if its not right.0

You're better doing that. Sorry..........I thought you were wanting really bright colours. If you're wanting baby blues etc. then either emulsion with a coat or two of varnish, or gloss would be better for colour range.
There are some pale colours in enamel paints but I've only seen those sort of shades in the very small tins.Mary

I was in a tesco superstore today and found some fab pearlised paints in baby pink, lilac and silver that will be perfect for my tin painting... they were in the craft section.0

Think I've seen somewhere that you need to mix paint with PVA glue to help it stick to things like metal & plastic...
If you use a water-based emulsion, the glue will mix in fine, & probably dry with a varnished look finish.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
