It's always a good idea to come up with a new challenge even if it's just for variety gtq. I've heard of the Speed first idea. It's potatoes that I have to rein in. I'm fine with pasta or rice or noodles as I always measure a portion of those. I've taken to making mash with some carrots or BNS thrown in to reduce the potato content. When I do roasts  I always put some carrot chunks (and BNS if I have it) on the baking tray first so there's not much room for potatoes.  Same with SW chips, I always do a few carrot chips to take up some room on the tray before peeling the potatoes. It all helps! 😁

Glad you got a decent piece of fish denise. Even if you're prepared to pay the pieces are very tiny these days. I've bought some of those bags of frozen fish to give them a try. They tend to be all shapes and sizes but they'll taste good and because they're so much cheaper per kg than fresh we can have a couple of pieces each.

It's a glorious day here although cold. I've got a dental appointment so I'll do my shop while I'm out. Mainly fresh stuff is needed as plenty of meats in the freezer.

    Today's EE plan-
B- NAS grapefruit squash (F), scrambled eggs (P), HEB toast, HEA1 milk
    L- LO casserole (P,F,S), pickled cabbage (S)
D- Fake KFC (P), SW chips (S) , carrot chips, creamy cabbage with HEA2, broccoli, mushroom and tomato (S)

Syns- HP sauce 1, weekend wine (TGIF!!🤣).

Afternoon everyone.  That smoking kit sounds interesting denise, may have to have a google as DH loves his BBQ so might see if I can find a meat smoking kit for his birthday.

Thanks for your concern ladies - I bumped into the manager this morning that's supposed to be supervising me (she's been off for most of this week 😒) and we're going to have a catch up on Monday to talk about things.  She said she wasn't surprised when I said things have been a bit slow for me 😳  Was going to email her anyway so will let her know my concerns in advance of Monday and then update my actual manager who will more than likely just pull me back.  Did get to have my first covid jab yesterday which was fine - did make me feel super tired and nauseous last night and my arm is really hurting today but that's normal for most vaccines.

Food wise I've had some weetabix again for breakfast and I'm not feeling too hungry again but have some snacky fruit and veg with me to see me through.  Dinner tonight is alas not going to be KFC (feeling left out!) but I'm doing a salmon traybake in the oven with courgettes, leeks, peppers and potatoes which should hopefully be good.

Hope everyone is staying safe and has a good weekend.

maman we always find frozen fish a bit watery which is why I prefer fresh fish for fish and chips.  Quite happy to use frozen for fish pie or a tray bake.

ruby the smoking kit is from a company called ProQ; think it was about £35 with the first lot of 'sawdust' which was oak.  DH also bought a couple of spare packs of the sawdust to try out - not sure which ones he's bought but think one of them was cherry.  You can use it to smoke meat as well as fish.  I'm thinking about getting a piece of pork loin and making our own bacon.  We don't have bacon any more because there's always too much water in it even if I buy dry cure.

Thanks denise will definitely check it out as he likes playing with meat and fire so hopefully we'll get something tasty out of it and not end up burning the fence down where the bbq is

🤣🤣🤣 - he shouldn't be able to burn the fence down though as needs a BBQ with a lid;  only needs a tea light to get it started which is then removed before putting the fish/meat in and then smoke for at least 10 hours so it's not a quick thing.

Just use rapeseed or sunflower depending on which I'm using at the time!  Can't stand the butter one when it's cooking either - it's got a really funny smell!

    Evening all

Had a pretty relaxed day today did a bit of housework and watched some Netflix and did a bit of batch cooking. Made some mushy pea curry, diet coke chicken and super speed soup.

I had the KFC tonight with a huge salad, it was really tasty I'll definitely make it again 😁
