    Can I sneak back in?

Have been AWOL for a long time (although reading along all the time) but I really need to up my game on the fabbing front. Since I was made redundant last year I have let myself go - mooching round the house in clothes I wouldn’t normally be seen dead in 😱. It seems I am at the wrong age (56) to be employable again - I have applied for so many jobs but only had a handful of interviews - none of them successful 🙁.

Time to turn over a new leaf so I washed my hair this morning, got dressed in to nicer casual clothes and put some perfume and makeup on (I am ashamed to say that I have only been washing my hair twice a week when it really needs doing every other day).

I used to buy quite a few bits from Kettlewell (when I was earning regular money) - they do have a lovely range of colours and although they aren’t cheap, they are nice quality and I still have lots of the items as they have kept very well.

Nice to be back - I need to keep posting and keep fabbing 😀
  • Hello Sukey.

The Kettlewell site was good for seeing what colours I liked. I might look at that again, actually.

I had lunch in Costa Coffee with my friend today and then we went to B&M and some charity shops. I bought a blue dress and a tartan Dorothy Perkins skirt for £1 each.

My other friend was texting me about my new glasses and I said I could meet her in London to try on frames to see what she thinks suits me. She knows a good place in Soho so I will arrange that over the next couple of weeks.

I have the DJ night tomorrow but I am only going to go out for a couple of hours. I was out Wednesday night for 4 hours and out today for 4 hours and that seems to be the sweet spot to do something social without tiring me out. :)

  • Hello Ladies,

I went to Poetic Unity's Open Mic event at Black Cultural Archives yesterday evening and it was a fantastic evening. We had 3 men from other parts of the World. One mature man was from the USA, a younger man was also from the USA and the other young man was originally from Australia, has lived in Paris for a few years and was visiting London. They added so much to the evening, as their cultures shape their personal experiences that they write about.  :)  <3

I stayed to talk to people at the end of the evening for the 1st time. It was fun talking to the other poets and people in the small audience. I got lots of compliments on my 2 poems: I Will Not Be Beaten and Maybe It's Because I'm A Londoner.  :)

@sukeyboo, please don't be disheartened  - I was 55 when I rejoined the NHS and started in my job following divorce & relocation. It took a while, and I too made plenty of applications with only a few interviews but the NHS were the most positive with good feedback. If your skillset would allow are the NHS a potential employer, as they are often keen to have staff with good experience despite their age (and the good pension is a bonus at our age!).
Floss, don’t dismiss your transferable skills in the NHS, all of the customer service skills would transfer to patients, your attention to detail experience in design and also Your need to be flexible as people, changed their mind would all stand you in good stead - do have a look on NHS Jobs to see if there is anything local in administration or patient support.
  • I had a nice time last night although I wish I could have stayed out longer. I am just taking it easy today, having a bath and then getting dressed and going to the local shop. My cousin is calling me this afternoon after seeing me on Instagram the other day. Haven't spoken to him since 2004!

There is meant to be a mini heatwave in London and probably elsewhere. All I have next week is a grocery delivery and my massage on Tuesday. I'm charging my kindle and will read in the garden this week. My husband needs to tackle the weeds again as last time I did it I was achy for days afterwards.

The optician had an offer for glasses and frames for £40 so I might go and buy a pair this week too. My friend can tell me what she thinks of the frames when I see her. I am meeting her to try on glasses before the concert the week after next. Finally going to a proper concert again! We will meet my brother after the trying on session and then go for a vegan meal before the gig.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.
