Those councils are the only ones that have bothered to tell equifax, you can guarantee it is the majority of the UK that is effected. For example out the 31 councils that told EQUIFAX my council was not on the list and yet its been reported on my credit file. Go figure! I would imagine 90-100% of councils in the UK have made the decision to postpone and thus effecting majority of the UK.

I am not sure what has happened to the old data but i know on my equifax i am no longer on the electoral roll for the first time in 15 years

I don’t think I’ve ever come across anyone who makes such sweeping assumptions with such ease.

Going back to an earlier assumption that credit will be withdrawn for those not on the electoral register. My wife and I remortgaged recently and neither of us were on the electoral register. She’s not even a UK citizen. Your assumption is misleading to say the least.
Why are you not panicking like the OP is???!!!!

Perhaps because they know this isn’t a really important thing to be panicking about, considering what else is happening in the world at the moment.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

You have a very vivid imagination. You cannot guarantee that the majority of the UK is affected - unless you happen to know the person in charge of each of the 300 local authorities - and you've spoken to them all personally? You imagine 90-100% of councils have made the decision? What else have you been imagining? You're a long term MSE member - and no doubt have seen many, many threads of people making daft statements. Don't be one of them!

Step back, take a deep breath, and calm down! It'll all be put right in no time at all. Whatever happens, happens, you have no control over it. The big finance providers will calculate their risks from their available data. The world is not going to end tomorrow because of this.

Well they will be affected because it affects their credit file irrespective of whether they are 'looking' for finance. Secondly, no-one knows what the future can predict everything might be great one day and the next someone may need to get finance, a car, a loan, a credit card, a bank account, a mortgage - anything! Circumstances do change day to day. So i would say this is a pretty big deal.
But if nobody/no computer is looking at the file because they aren't seeking finance then it has no effect.  There's a lot more to a decision about extending finance or validating ID than looking at the electoral roll.

I also recall completing an update (actually confirming no change) to my entry on the electoral roll earlier this year so I'm not even sure that they aren't publishing a new one - and I don't think we are due another election this year, though there could be by-elections in some places.
There are local elections taking place in May 2021.
Scottish Parliamentary elections next year plus likely a UK Parliament by-election in my constituency due to my MP wanting to be a MSP.

I’m in North Somerset which isn’t on the list of councils submitting delayed data and my Equifax is showing as not registered on the electoral roll.

This is a worry as I have a mortgage offer / exchange going through and I read lenders may check your file again before completion.

Worst case is a financial institution asks for proof of name / address if they can't do electronic ID, it's really not a big deal with everything else going on.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

I’ve just checked my Experian Credit report and the Electoral Roll information is up to date, so clearly doesn’t affect “all UK residents” 🤷🏻‍♀️
