Electoral Roll Issue affecting all UK residents

Didn't the exact same thing happen last December/January?I disagree that it will have no impact. I think for things like credit cards, a lot of lenders will reject based on automated computer-says-no systems.0

I haven't looked to see what is actually happening, but my recollection is that previous issues only affected some councils and their residents.A_Lert said:Didn't the exact same thing happen last December/January?I disagree that it will have no impact. If this is affecting everyone in the UK, then its impact will be neutral, effectively changing the criteria for everyone. Companies just need to discount that section of their internal scoring.0 -
IF this happens every December January, then the computer says no must be geared to understand it, otherwise there would just be two months every year when no-one gets any new credit of any kind.A_Lert said:Didn't the exact same thing happen last December/January?I disagree that it will have no impact. If you are genuinely panicking then you need to take a step back and gather your thoughts.xlnc99 said:No idea! But i for one am panicking big time!
As has been pointed out, lenders will take a pragmatic view over this until it is updated accordingly.
You could be accused of being a bit of a drama queen here.4 -
But if nobody/no computer is looking at the file because they aren't seeking finance then it has no effect. There's a lot more to a decision about extending finance or validating ID than looking at the electoral roll.xlnc99 said:Well they will be affected because it affects their credit file irrespective of whether they are 'looking' for finance. Secondly, no-one knows what the future can predict everything might be great one day and the next someone may need to get finance, a car, a loan, a credit card, a bank account, a mortgage - anything! Circumstances do change day to day. So i would say this is a pretty big deal.
I also recall completing an update (actually confirming no change) to my entry on the electoral register earlier this year so I'm not even sure that they aren't publishing a new one - and I don't think we are due another election this year (not early on any way but postponed elections may be held later along with by-elections in some places).1 -
There are local elections taking place in May 2021.General_Grant said:

I also took the opportunity to look at my local council website and there is no mention of a delay in publishing a new register and one can still apply to be added to the register.0 -
A Lot of interesting points thus far. A few points to note
1 - I don't remember it happening last year, if it did my credit file was not effected by this so i may have been lucky
2 - i am not sure lenders will adapt as someone has pointed out already, the computer system will automatically reject your application
3 - Lets be honest, who knows when this will be sorted out, local elections may be delayed further.
Goodness knows what will happen in 2021!

1. So stop panicking - if it happened last year and didn’t affect you - that’ll likely happen again this year.xlnc99 said:A Lot of interesting points thus far. A few points to note

2. Businesses are not going to blanket turn down everyone for credit for two months. That’s not going to happen.3. Things change - dates move - but the finance industry will adapt. So stop panicking.2 -
1. It happens every year when they do the annual canvass, so perhaps you have been lucky.
2. Lenders do adapt and how do you know the computer system will automatically reject an application? Or are you making an assumption?3. It will be sorted within a few months at most I doubt local elections will be delayed just because you think they will.4. If this is all you have to worry about and panic about when far more serious things have happened this year. Then I would suggest you need to take a serious look at your life and it’s priorities. As for what 2021 will bring who knows, it could be the best year of your life or the worst. Why worry about something that may or may not happen!?!Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:4
