Funny old week that has required a bit of chopping and changing: job number 1 is under new management so that's... interesting. Working tonight then off till Wednesday, 5.30 so will endeavour to get some organisation round this disaster area.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Have decluttered two shelves under the stairs and replaced with two new ones, thus decluttering four pieces of wood from the garage and will use the old ones and offcuts for kindling. I couldn't fit two 1ltr kilner jars one in front of the other so I made them slightly deeper to do that. And of course, I needed them slightly wider because I started the yearly produce preserving yesterday with the tomatoes, so four litre jars of passatta are now adorning the shelf. And I got to play with my Kregg jig, I just love that thing.I don't make an awful lot of it but it's enough to keep me in homemade stuff until next year and I know exactly what's in it. There'll probably be another eight or ten half litre jars to join them later on.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12

Bit more tidying in the kitchen - floor completely clear now and has had a good scrub today so looking a lot better. Bit more clothes sorting out done - a few more things have made it into the collection to go to the charity shop and a bit more for the fabric recycling.

@-taff, kregg jig, I had to google it cos I have never heard of it. I came to woodwork very late in life having attended all girls schools in an era when it just wasn't taught to girls but I have always loved wood. I forced my way onto a woodturning evening class about 20 years ago. The man on the registration desk tried to persuade me I really wanted to do the craft class but I held my ground
and I loved it. About 5 years ago I learned to use some of the big machines in the dt room at school so I could teach some basic woodwork and I loved it even more
Now I have retired and have the time to play I don't have access to them
but this looks brilliant. Of course I really need a workshop but that's not going to happen
so I am on the lookout for a place I can use them without actually having to buy and house them

The thread moves on fast as my last post was 6 pages back. Determined to eat some frogs this morning. I had a birthday at the weekend - useful presents, flowers and sweets. Had a health check last week and generally ok but cholesterol, BMI and weight need to come down which was no surprise. DS2 built my dining room cupboard for me now replacement parts have arrived.
1473 Birthdays cards and presents given or posted
1474-75 Cardboard packaging and damaged wood to recycling at tip
1476-77 Two bags of different plastic recycled at SM
1478 Another section of garden tidied over
1479 Vegetable pots cleared and compost put on garden
1480 Train tickets bought for my December trip with DD - treated myself to 1st class whilst cheaper advance tickets available.
DS1 and family sent me a box of new flower bulbs for my birthday which is great as I was planning to buy for my tidied garden area.
I moved some books and ornaments around and made space - trying hard to declutter the study. I have a nice box with maybe a 1000 coloured paperclips - I might use less than 10 a year. Think I will keep a small pot and take the rest to charity shop. Large unused under bed storage box put aside for DD as she says she can use it. Staying in today except for trip to post office as I have more cards to post.2025 Decluttering Campaign 648/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟🌟

I took more glass recycling down to the bottle bank yesterday and did an ‘extra’ £25 shop in Iceland so I could have it delivered. I had a case of catfood sachets delivered because my normal veterinary food is in short supply. I had a case of long life milk and 2 kg of sugar and
I managed to pick up some halfprice rump steak which I threw in the slow cooker last night. Delicious!
I have hardly spent any money on food in the last month and I’ve still got space in my freezer so I’m going to go into town and do another £25 freezer shop so that I can have it delivered. We are being warned that pork and poultry will be hit by CO2 shortages. I will get some large trays of chicken breasts, pork chops and chicken and xtra sausages to be on the safe side.I love my new shelving unit so much that I’m going to bring it out from the alcove behind the TV and have it in the kitchen. I have a plan! Unfortunately it means changing the way I do everything but I’m ‘more lucky than crazy’ so it could work😝
i’ve been running round chasing frogs when there is actually one or two elephants in the room that need to be addressed.Charlie is a bit funny about coming inside the house since OLCat died but he keeps the neighbours entertained by walking up the Close in the middle road, meowing loudly and looking up at my window. He woke me up at 1.30 am this morning- I could hear the racket he was making and as soon as he was near the front door, the security light came on so looked at the window and he just meowed up at me as if to say ‘I’m back, you gonna let me?’I fed him, he took a couple of bites and went out again only to do the same thing at 7:30 🤦♀️ This time I hung out of the window and told him off - and he answered me back! 😂😂😂 I really do wonder what the neighbours think 😂😂
My trusty shopping trolley is already packed with charity shop donations - I’m still thinning out! It’s all good stuff but I only need enough stuff for one 😃 I don’t need to have spares of everything for everyone!! (This is my new affirmation!’(Not actually sure if I’ll make it into Town today, my knees are killing me already)
Pace yourself everyone - slow and steady wins the race. Apparently. 😂😂11 -
Liverpool_Anne said:I am on the lookout for a place I can use them without actually having to buy and house themMaybe have a look and see if there are any Mens Sheds near you? They do all different things but they're kind of aimed at retirees, some of them do woodwork etc. You could put the word out to your local community and see if anyone has the space but not the time. Have you tried volunteering at the school to teach or be a teaching assistant?I haven't been formally trained at it, I used to watch my father, then copy him
I 'discovered' those jigs last year, although I had seen them before on Ana White's site years ago but they looked so complicated I dismissed them. Once you use them though, super simple! I think they're kind of frowned upon by the posh carpenters but hell, I used mine to build our goth box, make a table, make those shelves [joining two planks] and they seem to do the job..I don't have a workshop, I just have a workbench I set up where and when I need it and an outside table. My tools are kept mostly under the stairs except the compound mitre saw which is in the garage.

Morning all! Another weekend where I wasn't planning on doing anything but turned out to be quite productive!
Friday I finished work early and usually I would sit and read for a bit while waiting for DH to finish, but felt a bit listless and couldn't settle. Didn't want to just sit and watch TV so thought I'd tackle a frog and sort out the big box of paperwork that's been sitting in the spare wardrobe - basically a large plastic tub that I've just thrown "important" documents into when they arrive, thinking that I'll file them away later. So hefted the box downstairs and started sorting while the TV was on. 2 hours later, everything that was important is now in a plastic wallet in the box, all labelled and sorted. Managed to find my deedpoll documents in there so I can now change my name with the bank finally (about 5 years after doing it 😲😆) Manged to declutter about 150 items to the recycling (empty envelopes etc) and the same again to the shredding box of old payslips (made sure to keep the P60's) and insurance docs for companies we no longer have policies with etc. So I'm counting 300 items out of the house for that little exercise although it was probably more, I just gave up counting after a while!
We had no plans for the weekend but I told DH that I wanted to "close down" the garden for the season as the weather is on the turn (although it's sunny supposedly this week 🙄) and we had the use of a pressure washer from a friend for the rest of the weekend (DH borrowed it for his garage prep and the owner is collecting it tomorrow). So we washed down the table and chairs and BBQ and covered it all over with the covers we have, moved the umbrella into the garage and washed down the outdoor cushions we have because they were looking a little mouldy 😳 and put them away for next year. Wanted to get it done now as we're really busy next weekend and then next Monday we go away for a week and wanted to beat the bad weather. Had lots of fun with the pressure washer and will probably invest in one ourselves as it was very useful and we have some amazon vouchers to use up soon.
As we were going to be putting stuff into storage in the garage, DH then wanted to get rid of his "dump" pile that's been building up in there - so out went the old bed frame that we've been hanging on to for no reason because it's completely broken anyway, random curtain poles that the last owners left in the garage and some broken plant pots that they also left in there for us. So that was another 15 items gone!
This week's focus is on cleaning and tidying the house ready for going away really. Using the Team TOMM method really is helping although I don't follow it to the letter. Tonight's focus is the living room so a quick tidy and whizz round with a duster will suffice until Wednesday when I'll do the floors with the rest of the house (well DH will, that's his job as I can't lift the vacuum up the stairs 😆)
Everyone is making such good progress here and I love the community spirit, thank you @Mrs_Salad_Dodger for all your hard work, the cheerleading is lovely. Hugs to those that need them (socially distanced of course) and hope you all have a good day.

1163-1165: rubbish and mixed recycling out
1166: 50 emails out
1167-1181: items rehomed
1182: prescription specs lost at work and no news from management about whether the cleaner has found them.I would guess while one is juggling masks and glasses, cheaper frames might be a good move.
