It's been some time since I posted, I've also had a pretty rough summer so not really kept up with the thread so much 😥
But since my last post I managed to get 4 large bags to charity, including finally being able to let go of some sentimental stuff that still had plenty of life left in them, I wasn't using them because my tastes had changed, but I couldn't bring myself to let go. But I have now, and they have been released to find a new home.
We've also rearranged under the sink, including actually organising it all into themed baskets so it's now much easier to find what you need.
Otherwise I've mostly been trying to not allow further clutter into the house and make sure everything has a place, easier said than done! But I have been trying to ensure any purchases are mindful and wanted, rather than *see something - want it*.
It does seem to have been a rough year for many, and hugs to any who need them, and congratulations on tiny new arrivals!11 -
Morning all and welcome to the newbies.
The only mouse related tale I have is that next doors cat likes catching them and leaving them on our doorstep. Not quite sure what his intentions are (is it a gift, is it a warning? 🤷♀️) but DH has created himself a little mouse graveyard in the common land behind the house now 🥺
Decluttered the box the printer came in yesterday - no idea why we were still holding on to it, taking up space in the cupboard. Cleaned all the bedrooms last night apart from our desks which we'll do on Friday once we've finished work. Even managed to sweep under our bed which hasn't been done for a while 😏 Today's goals are to clean the bathroom and then hoover the carpets and wash the relevant floors. Then that will mean everything has had a good clean before we go away and I'll just need to wipe over the bathroom and kitchen on Monday morning - if DH can remember to put things away once he's used them 😆Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 201711 -
1683-1709: items to bin, recycling or to correct place
1710: Finally got confirmation that the "interesting" job is decluttered. I finish on Thurs 30th, let's hope it stays calm for my last few days. (I still have 2 other jobs, 1 temp to December)‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

hmm not sure if I can count things that haven't yet gone out of the house so maybe will have to wait, but in the hall ready for the charity shop are 3 boxes of stuff which will be 003 - 005, leaving my music room in a much better state (xoh came up last week as dd1 over from NL so brought her stuff and she has taken what she wants back and I have the rest to get rid of)
remade the guest bed and made some soda bread which i have tidied half of away already ;-)MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Mmmmmmmm home made soda bead, I cannot have it in the house! It is my drug of choice.
Had a funny turn yesterday at work, think it's a Covid thing. So I won't be over doing it today. Shame as I have bought new paint to do the woodwork in the bedroom. Trouble is I am a perfectionist and won't be happy until it is done.
I WILL clear the kitchen table of stuff I found in the pantry. DD1 and I have decided to do a Saturday car boot sale in a couple of weeks. After which the remains will have to go to the charity shop. I will also fill a bag for the charity shop this week. I like your idea 3secondmemory of getting rid if it is worth less than a tenner.
Have a nice day folks.

2. JUST DO ONE THING EVERY DAY (courtesy of bit_by_bit) OTHER THAN DAY TO DAY CLEANING & DECLUTTERING
3. ONCE A WEEK LEAVE THE HOUSE (e.g. Go into city centre for bank & butcher; go to local town for cs dropping off or buying; visit the pub with DH 😉
4. CLEAN & EMPTY SURFACE AREAS - DAILY
Oops 🙊 forgot to post Tuesday & Wednesday 🙊 So here goes 😉 Tuesday was a gloriously sunny day & quite warm. The new mousetraps were completely empty of mice & food 😉 Having previously strimmed the 2 back lawns DH gave them both a mow. Whilst I continued riddling (mostly done now), DH repotted the 2 horseradish plants (we thought we only had one 😱) - so no wonder the horseradish was pot bound 😔 & nothing much to harvest 😭 I also harvested loads of tomatoes from plants that had dying foliage - some red but most green. Need to weigh then check that I have all the ingredients I need to make 2 types of tomato chutney. Still have about a dozen tomato plants but will take advantage of the sunny weather & give the tomatoes a chance to ripen. DH also dismantled the garden umbrella. Dinner was scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon. Wudupa. P.S. only saw the one mouse 🙂
Wednesday was a lovely sunny & warm day with clear blue skies 🙂🙂 About lunchtime the new new mousetraps arrived - 2 smaller versions of the failed mousetraps - supposed to be more sensitive & a metal box one - one way tunnel in then mouse can’t get out. DH baited all three & set them out round the living room. DSis spent most of the day in her room as usual. Anyway I sat down with a coffee watching a TV movie when I started hearing a clicking sound - muted the TV but still the clicking sound 🤔 Guess what, go on guess…………… yes you are correct - one mouse in the metal box trap 🙂 DH did the honours & put it in the compost bin 🙂 Then both of us in the back garden awaiting the arrival of the arborist (JJ) who turned up with his apprentice (Leo) about 1:30 p.m.
Very knowledgeable & pleasant chap who examined our olive tree & then discussed & explained exactly what he was going to do. Two hours later olive tree was crowned, shaped & thinned & we could stand underneath & see the sky 👏🙂. JJ was like a monkey & chatted to us about the training required + was very complimentary about how healthy our olive tree is (the best he had seen this year & the only one with olives 😄) Plus he praised the pruning which I did a couple of years ago when I was up in the tree & thinned it out from the inside 🥳 getting rid of quite a lot of dead branches - I was chuffed. DH & I trimmed the larger branches & have several for the chiminea. JJ advised olive tree wood burns slowly & smells lovely 🙂 The rest of the trimmings were bagged up by Leo & taken to their van & chipper. We had offered the 2nd Je*sons builders bag to JJ which he gratefully accepted (apparently there is a shortage 😔) & as we were folding it we discovered a mouse which was duly tipped into the compost bin 😉 They left the garden very tidy & then I took JJ round to neighbour J to discuss a potential job & then J took JJ to neighbours G&A. Potentially 2 more customers 🙂 Our tree is now a work of art 😉
I stayed in the garden & finally finished riddling - have 3 /4 of a bucket of decorative stone & 1/4 bucket of sand. Dinner was 3.5 sausages (for DH & DSis just 1 for me) mash, beans & chopped tomatoes + fried eggs for me. Wudupa.
I have written this in notes & am going to try & post🤞. Will be back later to cheerlead 🙂

Thursday is another clear blue sky, sunny day but with a chilly breeze. Two mice caught in 2 traps 🥳 that makes 4 out of the house 👏🥳 DSis went to surgery for a blood test & then went shopping - just got home with a small bunch of flowers as a gift for me 🙂
Now into cheerleading 🤞
You are welcome villagelife 🙂 Keeping up the pace with your decluttering 👏
Excellent gardening work GrannyKate 👏 Good luck with the frogs 🤞 My frogs are getting urgent & becoming huge so I really must start dealing with them 😔😔 You have put me to shame GrannyKate in dealing with so many frogs & all by 10:30 a.m. 👏🏅
Great work TC77 👏
Lovely to see you DundeeDoll 👋 What a wonderful thing to have all your children home together 🙂🙂 You have already made an excellent start on your decluttering & now that you have found us you can share your successes with us 🙂 We are a friendly bunch & love to see new people 👏 Good luck with your decluttering 🤞and welcome aboard the Decluttering Charabanc/s 👋 What a result 👏 & well done for getting DS on board 👏
-taff, what an excellent bout of decluttering 👏 Rather than being shameful, it is a lesson learned & a reminder to all of us that should we want to try a new spice or herb our first port of call should be family or friends who might let us have a sample OR a substitute that we already have in our cupboards 😉 Women’s Shed sounds like a wonderful idea 💡 hope the research goes well 😉😉
nannywindow, what a lovely mouse story 😉 All the instructions for the humane traps say either 2 to 3 miles away but ours just go in the compost bin 😔 The weekend project is to move furniture & inspect for nests, check for ingress sites & be brutal in clearing areas. Much as we prepared to condone mice in our garden, having traps all over the place in the house is not conducive to a restful existence 😉 Excellent work on the ‘holiday clothing’ 👏 Everything is crossed that you only have to contend with crisp cool days 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Re the backpacks - slowly, slowly catchee monkey 😂 Great work in the garden 👏 We are still on weekly collections of rubbish, recycling & garden waste BUT DH keeps reading about council drivers being wooed with large wages & a signing bonus 😱
Shame about the glasses short_bird ☹️ Well done on decluttering ‘interesting’ job 🙂
A wise purchase 3secondmemory 👏
bit_by_bit, Another lovely mouse tale/tail 🤣 especially the vision of your DH & DS1 & 2 running away yelling 🤣 Maybe we should write a book 😉 Good decluttering 👏
vulpix what a generous community you live in - how kind & I wish you all the best in your fundraising efforts for the young boy 🤞🤞A perfect opportunity to declutter 👏😉
😬 no charge 😱 will be back later to resume cheerleading 🙂 & list items out for the last couple of days 😉
