2021 MISSION DECLUTTER and CLEAN

So I managed to get DD’s room tidied and organised. I’m back to work tomorrow and though there is still much to do in the house I feel better knowing that both kids rooms have been organised and properly cleaned! Little bit of ironing to do tonight and bed to make up. I even managed to get my sheets out on the line for a wee while today for a blow! Not much to report but 2 old storage boxes, very much past their best, carrier bagful of bits from DD’s room, cardboard to recycling and an old jigsaw missing pieces. Everything has its place again tho!
Plan for the weekend, weather permitting, is to declutter the garden of the old leaves and weeds. We’re putting out new shed up soon so we can take down the garage to start our extension so I need to get into the garage too and see what can go and what will move to the shed.
Happy decluttering everyone xx

Hi, you are all going great guns. I feel a little bit of a fraud as I decluttered massively last year when we thought we were moving to another part of the country. That didn't happen and I still have itchy feet so I have occupied myself by bringing things in, mostly to renovate. On my back burner is awareness of getting rid of unnecessary "stuff". We will still move when we can and I only want to take stuff I love or need to a new home.
Today I have given my bird boxes and the cat house 3 coats of paint. I will bring the garden bench in and touch it up as the tin is almost used up. Gives me satisfaction to use it all up!
I have started to renovate the mahogany chair. Hundred year old dust, tacks and material taken off. A gentle sand with wire wool tomorrow and waxing then make a new seat. I already have everything I need and again I just love making good use of things and using them up.
Mr V has cut up all the pallets now so the kitchen is looking much better. He won the bingo by the way.
83. A wire to DD2. Mr V has a whole shed dedicated to wires. It is an achievement to get rid of one!

1. KITCHEN WILL CONTINUE TO BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT2. JUST DO ONE THING EVERY DAY (courtesy of bit_by_bit) OTHER THAN DAY TO DAY CLEANING & DECLUTTERING
3. CLEAN ONE ROOM (TOP TO BOTTOM) EVERY MONTH (hopefully 3 weekly by the end of the year)Wednesday was a mixed bag weatherwise - brilliant sunshine, thick cloud, heavy rain showers or light drizzle - but thankfully warm. Another session of tidying bricks - DH was in the car park again - threw lots of bricks into the garden - now about one third of the bricks left in the car park. Trying to get the mortar off/out of the bricks was hard work - only managed 60 bricks - my stack is now 7 rows high = 252 bricks. There are probably over 100 bricks in the garden to de-mortar 😱
DH has had replies from the letting agent confirming that the owners would like him to proceed with getting quotes & then when everyone has agreed - he can book a builder. DH has emailed 4 builders - 2 are coming tomorrow (Thursday) - one at lunch time & the other at about 5 p.m. with a third one turning up on Saturday. We had pancakes for lunch 😉Dinner was pork medallions in a mushroom & Marsala cream sauce, with a cauliflower & bacon gratin & peas. Absolutely delicious 😋 🤤 We will have the 2nd half of our takeaways as Thursday night’s dinners. Wudupa.
Vegetable Box arrived before midnight - onions, potatoes, a romaine lettuce, 2 large parsnips, 2 courgettes, kale, celery & a butternut squash.

Hi decluttering ladies/gents,
I am a long time lurker of this thread and I am on my own mission to declutter and minimise ‘stuff’. I was just wondering if there is a place where clothes can be recycled? I have been hanging on to clothes that are holey/too small/worn or a combination of all three. They are no good to donate or keep for charity when the shops reopen. Are any of the clothing banks, usually at supermarkets or the like, for recycling rather than donation? I don’t like to just throw things in the bin when they could be recycled.Keep up the good work!10 -
@Carolyn12.... I think most recycling places have bins for clothes etc.... some charity shops collect them and weigh them in for cash.... and if there is a lot you might be able to weigh them in yourself but a bit extra cash....
I personally use them for rags.... for cleaning car, dusting etc.... always remember my nan using grandads old Y Fronts for polishing! Makes me laugh now!10 -
Most charity shops sell their unusuable clothing for rag so as long as you tell them it's for rag, they will still happily take it. Pennies is better than nothing.

Agree with -taff When i donate to charity shop i put my raggy clothes in a separate bag marked " textiles" They tell me it saves their time having to sort them and they can sell them by weight.
Hope that helps10 -
231-235: 2 bags rubbish, 2 bags mixed materials recycling, 1 bag paper and card out.
236-237: another 100 emails
And that's it for this week apart from taking the stuff I sold to the post office so already counted. oh!
