slpj said:I've been asked for my meter readings and Bank details in the original email, 6th Dec. I gave my meter readings. When giving my meter readings, I was then presented with a screen as I recall, to provide my bank details. But NOWHERE did it say I HAD to provide these, or I would be charged at a higher tarrif rate. There was no tarrif at this point. I haven't cancelled my SP DD, I've never had one.I can't be put on another YE tarrif, because that doesn't exist anymore.I still haven't been informed officially that I have an account with SP, or what my tarrif is. Only a telephone conversation, telling me that when I am finally set up with an account with SP, that for my area, the rates are those I gave further up. Until I have an account with SP, they can't charge me. They definitely can't charge me more, without informing me first, and informing me of the alternate methods of payment, any penalties incurred by not choosing DD, and without giving me the opportunity to pay by DD, from THAT point.Has ANYONE seen, or been sent any written text, telling them that they will be charged more if they cancel their YE DD?When I get a final bill from YE, I'll pay it by online transfer. A lot of people have cancelled their YE DD's. I think they'll have a hard time and a lot of complaints, if they try to charge people at a higher rate for settling their final bills. My understanding that it is the YE administrators not SP who will have to chase people for their YE bills, which I am very happy to settle in full.Actually, looking at the rate I was told for my yet to be account with SP, it's not really that bad. For me, on current consumption, I reckon about 100 quid a year more. Since I'll be moving asap, a month or so on the SP special tarrif, won't be too bad. Just the hassle of having to switch again.
Please note that without your Direct Debit details, you'll have to pay for your energy by cash or cheque, which may work out more expensive for you. Once you've entered your details, we'll take care of everything and keep you updated throughout.
SP won't charge you more because your YE DD has been cancelled. But they will charge more if you don't have a SP DD active.
I keep pointing out, the YE FAQ's page on the Scottish Power website has been updated a number of times, and contains much of the information people on MSE are saying SP hasn't provided them. Yes, SP communication has been poor (who expected anything else?!) but the information is out there for those wanting find to find it:
Yorkshire Energy | Gas and Electricity Company | ScottishPower

spot1034 said:Well you've probably just made it more expensive than it needed to be by cancelling your direct debit!I replied, by asking why, cancelling my DD with YE, would result in a higher charge from them. It won't.I HAVEN'T cancelled a DD with SP, for the simple reason that I've never had one with SP. I've simpley not given them my bank details yet. When they eventually set up my account, they will no doubt request them again, and at that point, -- as I am fully aware that non DD patment is often, but not with all suppliers more expensive, -- I will choose DD payment until I switch away from them.As regards the email section in bold above posted by bagand96, it says " *may* work out more expensive for you" . But that will only be the case if I don't subsequently set up a DD when they finally give me my account and tarrif details in their 'welcome' letter, as advised by them in the 2nd email they sent to me on the 7th Jan.Strangely, that section in bold about the DD, doesn't appear in my email from SP on the 6th December. That's the first time I've seen that. All mine says is what I posted previously, and then goes on to tell me I'm in safe hands with SP.Hey Ho. Much ado about nothing. Still haven't got an account from them.

A little tip for anyone who had already left YE and is waiting for a credit refund. The only way to get access to SP is through the online chat facility. Other routes require an SP account number, which you don't have. Although you are mostly speaking to a bot, that spews out standard and irrelevant replies, if you persist, somebody will tell you they will repay by cheque. You will also get an email with a link to the transcript of the transaction. You will at least be on their radar, which you weren't before. How long you will have to wait for your money requires a knowledge of string theory!

Quote "If you’re owed money because your Yorkshire Energy account was in credit, please don’t worry. We’ll ensure any outstanding credit balance is added to your new Scottish Power account or issued to you by cheque.
Current and former customers who are in debit to Yorkshire Energy should wait to hear from Scottish Power or Yorkshire Energy’s administrators who will talk to them about repayment arrangements.”
