Scot Powers performance dealing with YE's SoLR

by_eck said:I can't say I've been overly impressed with Yorkshire Energy, being slow to pay up for excessive credit on my account, but Scottish Power is the last supplier I'd want to be transferred to, having used them in 2011. From the outset, they transposed my Economy 7 day / night readings and took no notice of complaints until the Ombudsman stepped in. However, the mess took years to sort out, as the error followed every switch from then on.

). I'm thinking it might keep things simpler if I don't try switching away from SP until they have properly set up my account with them, and YE have issued a final bill based on the meter readings I've now given to SP, and the remaining credit with YE actually shows as transferred to my SP account. In an attempt to speed this along, I have given SP all the info they asked for. And also cancelled my DD for YE, since I will definitely remain in credit with them after they issue a final bill.
How much quicker would you guess it might it be to transfer to a cheaper tariff with SP than to switch to a different supplier? After running a few comparisons, it looks like I could cut costs a bit by moving from the "Energy Exclusive Online" tariff (which we are apparently being put on) to "Super Saver December 2021 B3" (fixed to 31 Dec 2021, with early exit fees). There are bigger savings with some other suppliers (though Outfox the Market comes out cheapest, and there are some very negative comments about them).
I agree with you. I'll move away from SP, because they will be too expensive. However I will wait until I know the transfer has happened properly before doing anything.
Some people seem so desperate not to be with SP that they are doing everything they can already. But if SP customer service is that bad, why do something now that may make the whole thing even more complicated?2 -
Deleted_User said:Well, if their customer service is poor, I'm not sure I want them to be handling 2 transfers simultaneously for me (in and out again)Also need to consider CS standards of new supplier. The cheapest for me came out as: Outfox the Market, followed by (in order): Simplicity, Avro, Shell Energy. Any of those you'd run a mile from? Not really scared of smart meters.
But if customer service is an issue, how far down your list is Octopus, as they are the highest rated for customer service. If saving money is more important, just pick one of the cheapest, with any luck you may not have any need to contact their customer service.

Well, they've had a full working week now and still no follow-up e-mail with SP account details....looking like a typical SP clusterf***......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Has anyone else had a recent direct debit taken by YE (after they went bust)? My account was over £200 in credit, yet they've still taken another £85 this week. If the money hasn't gone to a defunct company, just where has it gone? It seems to have been a mistake to go along with the advice to keep the direct debit alive whilst the transfer to SP is taking place.

See https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/77857299/#Comment_77857299 and subsequent posts. Those who didn't cancel their DD in time will probably see the balance added to their credit that's transferred to SP, but personally I wasn't willing to risk it being caught up in YE's bank accounts and then having to try to reclaim it from the administrators. The first wave of SP direct debits have appeared on people's bank accounts today. It looks like (from the online account I just set up using the reference on the DD) they'll be taking their first payment next week. Worth following that thread if your are a YE refugee.1

Thanks for the advice and link, masonic. As is often the case with hot topics, there may be several simultaneous threads active and it's easy to overlook them.

Has anybody who had already left YE, when it ceased trading, but had a credit balance, heard anything from SP? I haven't.

Only found out about yesterday about YE going under on 6th Dec when I received both an email and a letter from SP. The email said they had been trying to contact me without success, not sure how as I've not had any email or phone call from anyone. Looking on the YE bit of their website just now, it seems SP is switching all YE customers to their Energy Exclusive tariff ("...specifically for former customers of Yorkshire Energy..."). Their letter quoted a website to provide current meter readings etc..(scottishpower.co.uk/yorkshire) but I got "Sorry, this page is now closed". I rang the 0800 number they quoted as being specially set up for YE customers...first time I chose to wait but got cut off after 20 mins, second time I chose to receive a callback "within 35 to 47 minutes" but received nothing. Not a great intro to SP. My YE tariff ran until 30/09/21 - does anyone know if SP are going to hold us to this exit date, and if we want to switch supplier beforehand will they charge an exit fee?0
