I always put a fiver in with a Christmas card for the postie and the milkman, and just hope they don't get relief workers or different shifts the day I put them out!Fayolle said:Can I ask for some opinion - Christmas boxes for helpful people like our postie (who is the best and saves us all 25 mile round trips to small town to retrieve parcels etc) and milkman (who delivers at 4.30am without fail). Do people do something, and if so what? I remember my mum putting aside 50p from her hardearned wages for the like, but it’s not something that I have done, although I see it popping up on the list once a year.
Spent most of the night in WAC worrying about my Covid test which was this morning - if I was positive would I have to send my student home assuming the text came just before their assessment; would I miss seeing mum at Christmas; would I have to sleep in the spare room and avoid Mr N for 2 weeks etc. Anyway it was negative. I was very impressed with the guidance, signage, instructions etc and spent the rest of the day trying to do an efficient assessment in a new room (I've been moved) while tired. Came home and slumped on the sofa with gf toast, rising just to mash the veg Mr N had put on along with cottage pie - lovely to have the range going - I'll be able to make the Christmas puddings at the weekend. Ate it and still slumped, can't believe I am so tired.

            Morning all.
Paid stuff again today and between shifts in addition to dailies and dog walk, I want to spend proper time with DH putting a timetable together for our zoom Christmas.Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.10 -

Morning all. I lost another post last night (my fault, still forgetting to press Post!)
Did everything on my list yesterday except one - someone was out when I rang - so as things leave the house and unwanted papers are binned I am beginning to see a bit of order in my study.
Three parcels to be posted this morning. The local PO opens at 8.00 so I will be up and dressed early and will pop down the road before breakfast. That will shock DH.... I have a Z00m meeting at 10.30 and want to use the time profitably before then.
It took me 5 minutes to emulsion the wall in the cupboard under the stairs late last night, so my first job when I go downstairs will be to check how it looks and if necessary put on a second coat while the kettle boils for my cuppa. It will help my sanity if I can get all the coats and shoes put away again, and give me room to bring down the Christmas tree and light up the house at last.
Oh, and talking of checking, last year's Christmas cake looks fine - still moist and not at all mouldy. Now I shall have to have an iron will, if I'm not to eat it all before 25th! Where did I put that stollen instead?
Today's plan also includes:
- more admin
- more service planning
- more deliveries and photos
- more cooking
- more walking with Rosie
- more S&S'ing - not likely to do any deep cleaning again today
- and DGS1+2's school carol service is on the Web this evening only, so we will eat early, then sit down to watch it together with a mug of something hot, a piece of cake stollen and a pile of cards to write
Hope everyone has a productive and pain free day. Fayolle, don't ever underestimate how you and many others on this thread do, because you are also holding down paid jobs - far more than me, with all the time in the world because I'm "retired"!

PS Has anyone tried Sm0l DW tablets or their other products? They are environmentally friendly and appear to be quite MSE. I'm wondering whether to try them, bearing in mind that they are made in the EU and therefore possibly subject to delays in the just-in-time deliveries. Oh how I hate making decisions!9 -
            Good morning
I spent quite a lot of time in the WAC last night, followed by some very vivid but jumbled dreams. Confusion reigns here this morning, due to swapping work days and DH going out to hopefully sort his car out later. I have changed the bedding and it is in the wm in an attempt to remind me that it is Thursday.
I need to look at the lists, make a list of my own and see how that fits in the spare hours. Now that you have mentioned Stollen, Iona, I meant to add that to my to do list ages back but forgot. I haven’t made one in years, but then I could eat it, as that doesn’t count as Christmas cake 😉
Have a lovely day all, back later when I have a list to tackle.8 -
Morning all, better late in than never! Beds are made, DW has been on, emptied and is now on an empty hot wash. Laundry sorted to put on later, bags and packed lunches made.Roll on Friday xx9

            Morning,
Bed made, clothes picked up and room aired
Living room tidied
Kitchen tidied
2 bags of pellets brought in and stoves filled, not on as I'm going out at 10
Banking checked and spreadsheet updated
Admin done
Nearly bought some foil dishes this morning but actually went and had a look in a few odd places and found I had some so hopefully can get a bit of cooking for the freezer done this weekend
I might be learning to clean up as I go, my daughter has given me a tea (or rather infusions) advent calendar so I am taking it up to bed each night, but whilst I wait for the kettle to boil I have been tidying round the kitchen and washing up, given that OH always puts dinner stuff in the DW there isn't much to do. It's been so nice to come down to a nice kitchen in the morning and just have the washing up to put away, OH always unloads the DW whilst waiting for the kettle.
Off to hairdresser now, if she hasn't got anyone else in I will ask for a manicure whilst the colour takes.8 -
            Hello xx
Is it sad that I was thrilled that the binmen came early this morning which meant that I could start filling the emptied bin with plastic and cardboard again before I came to work? You have to get your enjoyment where you can 🤣
I also emptied the kitchen bin and fed the birds.
DS has taken all his work paraphernalia to his house now that he has functioning broadband and I have my kitchen table back. Woot woot.

Stopping for a quick lunch - so far, and possibly the sum total, for today has been:
stripped and remade bed ( think I might have claimed that one earlier!)
wm run, wet washing hung up, dry washing folded and sorted, QHI to clear the pile
school drop off, repeating for pick up in 1/2 hour
whole house vacuumed, bedroom dusted
kitchen, cloakroom and utility mopped
various bits of gibble rehoused
cards posted.
It felt like a lot more, but I will take it as a win.

I’ve tried them.. they were rubbish. The dishwasher ones did not clean very well and even with rinse aid and salt left a nasty residue on e wry thing I then had to scrub off by hand..ionafan said:

the washing tablets were ok.. didn’t smell nasty or anything but they didn’t clean as well as the usual cheap wash powder.. for me they worked out super expensive. The perfume sprinkles are a cute idea.. my daughter-in-law loves them.. I didn’t try them because I don’t like smells and Dot would implode.. we also have mad sensitivity to perfumes so I avoid them where I can.You can but try them!FLY-SANTA... my parcel arrived today!! I want to open it NOW... I never get this excited about presents so it must be amazing .. thank you!! Xxx can’t wait to open it all!Cards being posted tomorrow.
