Thank you, Mademoiselle x
Work done. Confused the life out of everyone by being there on a Tuesday, and then telling them it was actually Thursday 🤣. Productive hours there, so that feels good.A load of towels has been washed and now hung up in the utility room.
£££s spent at PO on stamps, plus some extra to beat the price rise. My letters will look lovely with Christmas stamps on when we get to June! Said stamps put on cards so that someone can drop them into the postbox. Picked up a few bits at the village shop to support them and also to tide us over. Including a hm Christmas cake which I will try to resist, as I am the only big fan. It is my Christmas present to me.
Bathroom and ensuite given a s&s+. Not quite a proper clean, but not bad. Taps shined so it looks like I’ve done a complete job.
Off out shortly to pick up DD, then it is an easy dinner of mix and match leftovers, streeeeetched out to feed 3.8 -
The day began with a phone call from DS to tell me that the emergency credit had run out on the gas meter. 6.30 am. Not the start to the day that I had in mind!!
Fed the birds. Filled up with petrol then a full day at the paid stuff. Called at the Post Office on my way home to pay the rent and post my flylady cards.
Prepayment card hasn't arrived so emergency engineer is coming out to put more credit on DS's meter. DS brought their washing over- so WM is swishing with GF's work tops in it. DS has bought a halogen heater which will hopefully keep the chill off until the heating is back on. I've suggested that they snuggle under a duvet together on the sofa.
Tomorrow is another day. Hugs to all.

When my boys were little I think I had this idea that one day I would wave them off into their own lives, happy and content, and my job would be done. No-one tells you that it is much tougher than that, and when they are adults you can only do so much to help. Hugs to MM and Fayolle x
So, the highlight of my day was being in a work meeting and my boss putting me on the spot, sort of "right I am going to hand over to YL to talk you through this", when I didnt know she was going to do this and wasnt prepared. Cue me fumbling an answer and fretting for the rest of the day thinking I sounded like an idiot. Oh why do I overthink things so much.
Anyway, 9 hours paid stuff done, pie made for tea, upstairs hoovered, DW emptied and reloaded, our duvet cover changed. Yoga done, I need to go to bed and forget about work now.11 -
All you mums of home-leaving offspring: I think I was about 30 when my mum finally admitted that after she and my stepdad dropped me off at my new home 130miles away, aged 18, she cried all the way home. I cried most of the evening too. I lived in a YWCA for 18months then got a rented flat. I didn't know anyone in that town or area, it was my first job.
Went to aqua aerobics this morning which was lovely. On the way home I stopped to take photos of the fantastic knitted post-box decorations which the Hertford Yarn Bombers do every year https://www.inyourarea.co.uk/news/secret-society-of/ . One had several knitted turkeys, mince pies and all manner of festive food all knitted. Amazing.
Much of the rest of the day has been writing reports and preparing paperwork for tomorrow's students.
Re-set the phone which had been acting strangely, mainly cutting straight to answerphone (which on ours just means it sends me a transcripted email) without actually ringing. Very annoying.
Picked up more clothes from the bedroom floor, how do they keep getting there?
Took ages trying to ring Natural History Museum as we want to re-join and Mr N wants a book for Christmas (groan; we have too many books in this house). Got through eventually to a recorded message saying you had to email them. Grr. E mailed them.
Engineer (yawn alert) couldn't drop in today; may be tomorrow or Thurs. Still nice to have the range to cook on though and the kitchen is definitely warmer.
Still writing the last few Christmas cards.
Panicked when I saw Mr T on the calendar as I hadn't done an order; thankfully it was a mistake as it should be Saturday.
Mr N cleaned out all the bird feeders (4) outside my study as the rain had got them.
Other than that, just dailies and drum practice.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.8 -
Lovely to see you back with us Skinty [waves]
Fayolle, did you spot that Jazee has already started eating her cake? I've still got last year's HM cake in the fridge - must check to see if it's OK (it should be, as it was well fed and is in a sealed container). I also have a giant Xmas pud, so might end up sending food parcels to each of my children this year. I really need the fridge space
My house looks a mess and I haven't achieved a great deal today:
- had a 30 minute conversation with my eldest goddaughter, who is anti-vaccine and doesn't like the Welsh Covid regulations
- ... then had a 90 minute phone conversation this morning with the student who is currently on placement at our church. It was useful for her, I think, but I hadn't reckoned on it being quite that long.....
- sent an e-card for a friend's birthday
- sent a couple of emails
- sorted and filed some papers
- wrote a character reference for one of our younger toddler group volunteers who is applying for a voluntary post with another local charity
- hoovered the mud off the mat in the utility
- did 5 loads of washing: one whites and lights (mostly mine), three darks (almost all DH's), and one towels; all half-dried in TD [verging on MSE] and now hanging on the airers in the bathroom
- watched the dials on my smart meter display: we only went into the red zone once, when the kettle and hob were also on!
- crawled into the cupboard under the stairs to check the new meters and found two items that the engineer left behind yesterday, so reported it to the firm's enquiry line. "He will ring you."
- cooked soup for lunch
- took Rosie for her walk
- swept the oak leaves off the lawn and deposited them in the copse opposite whence they came
and this evening I sent some more overdue emails, then forgot to click "Post Comment" - oops!

Morning all. Paid stuff today but I'll also see what flying I can fit in. I shall also be fitting in more Christmas cake.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.8 -
Good morning everyoneGo you, Jazee! I would join you if I knew where DH had hidden the cake.Iona - if only I managed to do half as much in a day as you do...
YL - I also worry and overthink absolutely everything and it’s a curse. For work, I am sure it is because you care and are professional. You are bound to have done brilliantly.
1st load just finishing in the wm, dry washing folded, dw emptied, dinner unearthed from the freezer. As you know, I have now peaked for the day. It going to be a full on day plus we are a car down so coordinating transport from various points in the county is a challenge when the bus service stops at 11am and resumes for a couple of hours at 4pm.
Can I ask for some opinion - Christmas boxes for helpful people like our postie (who is the best and saves us all 25 mile round trips to small town to retrieve parcels etc) and milkman (who delivers at 4.30am without fail). Do people do something, and if so what? I remember my mum putting aside 50p from her hardearned wages for the like, but it’s not something that I have done, although I see it popping up on the list once a year.
Have a lovely day everyone. I haven’t braved looking out to see how much car scraping there is yet.10
