A bit of an update, a positive one :-)

It took me a while to decide on my next room to pay off as I kinda wanted one floor paid initially although the conservatory doesn't get much use at this time of year. Anyway long story short I picked my bedroom, because I have a desk in here to work and love my sleep! So I have 16k until I own the bedroom bringing the mortgage down to 112k once it's paid off. Still sound like so much but creating closer to 100k which I can't wait to get under.

So I have split the room down into 4k sections, my bed, my desk, my wardrobe and my window (love my view). I think I am going to pay for the window first so everytime I look out I can remember our achievement. Target 124k...current mortgage 127,800.  Let's go buy that view :-)

Cosy blanket fund... Currently sat at 1400 so not a 6month EF but something and hopefully this can grow a bit more now.

T3x return, I was actually owed some money... I got it into my account today which was very welcome. Some went to EF and some to mortgage so feel like a positive step has been taken. We are keeping some back for a bit.

Mot, went through with some advisories which hopefully shouldn't cost 2 much.... They will be done next month.

Next month my long overdue OT should be paid along with hopefully a bonus. Need to have a think about how to direct that and if some should go to pension.

Otherwise life is busy but positive things are happening re my business and I'm in a good place.

    Hope you are all well.

  • Well done splitting the room to buy and starting with the view, those are priceless.

Cosy blanket is great and will naturally increase.

Keep pushing forward as everything is falling into place.

    Hi Everyone,

A tiring day promoting my business but need to keep grinding away.

Sent £16 to the mortgage... Thank prolific. Would be good if I can pay the interest for the month outside of normal payments etc. A buy more at the cosy blanket so now 1460...not much more but a positive movement non the less.

Car booked in for the work that needs doing but that will be out of next months pot.

Keep looking at the view so think I picked the right inspiration.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend

    Hello,

Thought I would come and share, we had an incident that needed some money to solve. We did unpick some of the cosy blanket but it felt so much nicer to know it wasn't pushing us into our overdraft and it felt like a less pressurised situation. More of a yes we can fix that and that is what the cosy blanket is for.  It just validated it really which was nice.

Pay day tomorrow so I have been looking at the money juggle. We are looking to make the blanket more cosy this month and it feels good to be putting that protection in place and to know as it grows the amount we are protected grows. So for example last month we covered a small issue in a few months time I am hopeful we could cover something big... Obvs I don't wish it on us but good to know we can if needed.

I am going to put some money aside for birthdays and Christmas this month and have already booked and paid for the panto so really trying to get ahead where we can to stop pain at a later date.

Mortgage balance £127,783. Could be better but could also be alot worse.

Keep smiling, we got this x

An update as my life has been turned upside down.....

Firstly hello to you all :-)

I have been diagnosed with a cr1t1cal illness that I am currently being treated for, it means that I can't work and can't do much myself. I am lucky as I have lots of support but have needed to put some practical things in place to help me cope.

Our money situation will change as we are due an insurance payment in relation to the above.

I am currently being paid which is helping and hopefully can return to work end of year/early next.

I have given up my own business as need to focus on my health.

Looking at the BTL we have finally decided to sell and have told the tenant. The current fix is up at the end of the year and need it sold by then ideally as rates go up dramatically if we don't and I don't want to get a new deal. I am hopeful we will sell as property of that nature quite sort after in the area.

I have been looking at figures and ATM it doesn't make sense mathematically to OP on our mortgage as rate is 0.89 so looking to find a home or 2 for the insurance lump sum. I am very nervous as want to make sure we do the right thing with it and feel we have 1 chance to make a difference to our lives. For the time being we need the money to help us through selling the BTL as it will need some work doing and we won't be getting rent etc.

So really everything is up in the air but the main thing is although unwell I am coping ok with it all and just doing 1 day at a time.

So sorry to hear your health news @longway2go I hope the treatment can get you better and maybe you can return to work. Selling the btl sounds like a good idea and thank goodness for the insurance money.

Look after yourself, take things easy and get well soon x

I'm sorry to hear your update, take it easy, don't try and do all the decision making or all at once. While OPing your mortgage may not make sense, paying it off in full would free up a decent sum each month and perhaps lead to a greater quality of life. Even buying a more suitable long-term home based on your needs and future needs could be an option.
