  • Not really happy I only found out through here rather than themselves...unless they're going to email everyone tomorrow? I was in a similar situation with Economy Energy but that was mainly about getting credit back after I transferred over from them.
  • It depends if they've completely shut operations or not. It's likely the frontline staff only found out yesterday/today and weren't prepared to sort out an email for every customer. You still found out today and whether or not you're happy probably isn't the first thing on their mind while they're worrying about their jobs tbh  :(

In fairness to them, its on their Homepage now. They request meter readings at the end of the month, so a lot of their customers are likely to see this. I'm sure they will be arranging a wider communication by email. In my experience, they've always been quite customer focused.

Saturday 5th December Ofgem will say which company will take over our Yorkshire Energy accounts. Our Tariff ends and we move onto a Deemed Tariff which more than likely will be more expensive. There will be no exit fees so we can switch as soon as we are live on this Deemed Tariff I presume. Done a quick comparison on CAB on dual fuel and the cheapest tariff in my Yorkshire area is Outfox the Market fixed 20 19.0 followed by Utility Point then PFP. Anyone like to comment on which companies that you are looking at to switch to?. Electric and Gas only tariffs will be compared later tonight.
Just done my numbers. it looks like I'd be marginally better off with two separate suppliers. PFP for Electric and British Gas Evolve for Gas. I think I can live with that, unless I can find a decent cashback or referral deal.

  • Dreamypuma - just check that British Gas Evolve allow single fuel. When I switched not long ago they only allowed duel fuel but they may have changed since then

British Gas Evolve also allow gas only and electricity only.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll read up on Evolve whilst the dust settles. In fairness there isn't many tarrifs out there that offer as good value as my current YE one. I'm surprised that OTM didn't make an appearance.

I have done a little comparing Electric and Gas tonight. British Gas Evolve does do Gas and Electric separate though here in Yorkshire they are approx £80 more expensive for Gas and at least £100 more expensive for Electric. My two separate companies are Utility Point for Gas and PFP for Electric. This saves around £82 for the year compared to a dual tariff with one of these companies. Will continue to tariff crunch tomorrow. Well worth separate suppliers.

It's a shame Yorkshire Energy have ceased trading as I've found them to be really good. I've found their online service to be really good, and love how you can submit a meter reading and get a bill generated almost instantly.

As YE were quite a small supplier, does anyone know if they used a 3rd party IT / Billing system? I'm just wondering if it's something that any of the other smaller providers might also use. Like I say, I've found everything to be very efficient and I'm trying to think ahead to my next switch - I've been less than impressed by the big 6 providers in the past!
