Scottish Power tariff information lists the "Energy Exclusive" tariff as variable. However, I'm sure I've seen reference on this forum that the rates are fixed for a set time (3 or 6 months?) which was a requirement of the SoLR deemed tariff. I think someone suggested that it might state variable because it has no exit fees, whereas all the fixed ones do.Deleted_User said:I am fortunate enough to be pretty much sorted now with both YE and SP, and as things stand I am now officially an SP customer. I'm interested in the banner statement that now appears on my SP Online Dashboard to the effect that
'Good news! Your prices aren't affected by the 1st April prices increases.'
Why is that? Because they have been factored into their rates already?
Does this apply to all SP customers, or just ex YE?
Is the Energy Exclusive Online tariff we are on fixed for a period after transfer, or is it immediately variable?
Anyone?1 -
Yes, I've just logged on and I have the same banner message too. I tried to ask about this via their chat at 6.50pm but I didn't get a reply as they appear to finish at 7pm. As Bagand96 stated it is a variable tariff and the 6 months will take us into May.Deleted_User said:I am fortunate enough to be pretty much sorted now with both YE and SP, and as things stand I am now officially an SP customer. I've redone my calculations and a fixed Avro tariff is just a bit cheaper so I'll initiate the switch next week.0 -

One thing that has become apparent is that I have been protected or 'misled' by the YE tariffs from what has been going on in the energy market. In common with others, I've been researching the market and suppliers of late, and I am surprised at how much prices have gone up. I was paying around £1000 pa for energy, but I'm now struggling to find anything less than £1250 on the comparison sites, and less than £105 on direct debit per month, rather than my £75.Wholesale prices have gone up so all suppliers have had to raise their retail price. Having said that, I managed to get 12 month fixed deals for gas and electric for very little more that YE's market beating variable deal, when the latter came to an end.Have you looked at separate gas and electric suppliers? It was the first time I did it and was surprised how much cheaper than the available dual fuel tariffs it was. Probably Neon Reef and Zog would be the best deals you could get at the moment.1 -
Another thing that has become apparent is that good customer service is at a premium, and it is not all about bare cost. As I mentioned above I have been actively seeking an alternative supplier. I use Twitter a lot and it is noticeable that the Twitter feeds of most of the energy suppliers are FULL of complaints about poor customer service, in terms of time spent hanging on the phone, unanswered correspondence, failure to keep appointments or call back, and poor or incorrect advice. This covers the likes of Bulb, Igloo, So, Eon, EDF, and even Octopus, which is the only supplier that Which fully recommends. I think it is So that has increased its prices twice in 3 months, essentially blaming the pandemic.
To be honest, I feel at a bit at a loss as to where to go next.0 -
I’ve never heard of Neon Reef, but they have very mixed reviews on Trustpilot. Apparently they have links with Utility Point, who have a pretty poor reputation, and do not even offer a telephone contact number.Verdigris said:Have you looked at separate gas and electric suppliers? I wouldn't place any credence on Trustpilot reviews but as you apparently do, I might have expected you to consider a 91% Excellent/Good rating pretty good going, certainly for a utility company.Deleted_User said:I’ve never heard of Neon Reef, but they have very mixed reviews on Trustpilot.

I have no great love for Trustpilot, but that rating certainly does not tie up with the detailed reviews that I was reading, which included numerous one star scores.Chino said:I wouldn't place any credence on Trustpilot reviews but as you apparently do, I might have expected you to consider a 91% Excellent/Good rating pretty good going, certainly for a utility company.

I have just signed up with NR and emailed them on Wednesday night and got a reply the next morning saying they would pass it on to accounts and got a reply of them to say my request had been sorted,so they seem to be on the ball and was given a number to call in case of problems.

Yes...by all means go with one of the big six who have phone lines that never get answered, emails that are never replied to, online chat where you wait for information then have your session terminated.Deleted_User said:

I've switched electricity to neon reef today. Gas is still with SP for the moment. Neon set my direct debit based on number of bedrooms so it's wrong, but I'll just put the extra money aside for when it's asked for.0
