  • we have a credit balance of several hundred pounds on our yorkshire energy account. it still says it.

account with SP set up, but still waiting for the final bill from SP. Whenever we phone yorkshire energy they give the 'two weeks' answer. it clearly sounds to me as the answer they have been told to keep giving to everyone.  wouldn't surprise me if there was a bare skeleton staff and they are inundated. nor would it surprise me we will still be waiting come easter.
  • With two more energy companies going to the wall there is little out there at the moment to switch to. I really think as much as people don't like to stay with Scottish Power there is very little option at the moment. Sadly we are all going to have to pay more.

with both my pending switches now showing in the SP account, I'm going to have a laugh later and call the number in the banner about can we persuade you to stay with our exclusive tariff.......I'll go through the standing charges and unit rates, banging them into the spreadsheet as they tell me and chuckle at how expensive it is, before asking the last question - does this depend on having a smart meter?  I think the rates will be not-so-exclusive anyway, but the compulsion of a smart meter will be the double-whammy not-on-your-nelly thing..

...and try not to laugh when they ask you why you're not interested :)

...AND still no sign of final bill on YE account :(
Like most others I think, I got a phone call from SP after I'd signed up with new suppliers - it was about three weeks ago now - trying to persuade me to change my mind, but the guy was so half-hearted about it. He just said 'have you definitely decided to leave?' and I replied that I had and that I had done the research and he basically said 'OK then', and the whole call probably didn't last more than 30 seconds! If I'd been a supervisor monitoring his work I wouldn't have marked him very high, but it was a Saturday lunchtime so maybe the bosses aren't in at the weekend!
I think I must have got the same guy. He didn't put any effort into getting me to switch back. He probably thought that when I said the reason why I'd switched was because there were cheaper tariffs elsewhere, there wasn't much point.
  • Weirdly SP is showing my gas readings I gave to them but not my leccy ones. Anyone else having this issue?

My switch the EDF finally culminated yesterday evening in a request for a meter reading - exactly a week after EDF began to supply me. That delay. means that the figures I gave them were out of date but if they are so cumbersome that even with a computerised system it takes them a week to ask me for a reading, I suppose I should just shrug and leave them to cope with any problems that causes them..

Having now successfully (I hope) extricated myself from the mess that is Scottish Power (clearly more interested in its Greenwsh marketing than doing the job properly) and managed to persuade EDF to accept my business, I can't help remembering in comparison how good Yorkshire Energy was to deal with.

Perhaps the lesson to be drawn is that the UK's energy market has been so badly constructed by politicians and civil servants that only giant, impersonal and inefficient corporations can survive in it. In the long run, Naturally, it is the consumer who will suffer.

Myself and a few others dotted around this thread.  Spoke to them about exactly this issue last week.  Blamed it on the inability of YE to produce a final bill  blah blah blah.  We went round in circles and the CS could not fathom why I found it hard to reconcile the fact that the gas nmeter has been on the account since 1st January.  I shall see where their lack of an electric meter on the account takes me to in early February once my switch to Avro takes place.  So long as the final bill from SP uses the correct opening meter read I supplied to them on 9th December and that this matches the final read on my YE account I shall not be bothering them.
  • I decided to send a message to YE to see what was happening regarding final bills not expecting to hear anything but yes I got a reply

    Good Afternoon,

    You are speaking with Lisa.

We are currently in the process of issuing final bills, you should receive this within the next couple of weeks.

Once your final bill has been issued and settled your remaining credit balance will be transferred to Scottish Power who will refund this back to you.

I hope this finds you well.

    Kind Regards,

    The Yorkshire Energy team

    ------------------
    Submitted from: https://my.ye.co.uk/

and there was a PDF attachment with my last bill from YE, think I am a bit lucky in that my bill dates are the same date as when YE went bust, 05/12/20

I emailed the administrators and they got it sorted for me.

Gas, with Zog, was very reasonable.  Higher than my YP prices, but still good value.  Took the plunge with 12 months.
Electricity, not massive savings with anyone at the moment, so took the plunge with Evolve.  Cheaper than SP, fixed price and no exit fees.  If there is a nice drop in the near future, will be leaving Evolve.

I now have my final bill with YE. A small credit balance.  Had email from them last night.
  • To my understand, SP should not be asking for a closing read.  It is for your new supplier to collect, the external verification company does its job and comes up wih a finalised closing read, and then passes this onto your new supplier and SP.

I agree with you but SP have sent me a final bill, the closing meter readings matching those with GNE (gloom!!) opening meter readings. So I've now only a final bill from YE + final bill from GNE (oh joy!!) to come, and then yet a n other energy supplier. Please let it not be SP AGAIN!
