Separating and Divorcing Husband Who Is Very Difficult

I valued them on CEX and averaged out the cash price, voucher price and CEX retail price. It was £3300 cash going as high as £7700 retail. The average of the 3 figures was £5100. There were 535 games, a lot are new for a current gen console and there were a lot of £50+ games and a fair few £100+ games!calleyw said:BigMac79 said:I have valued the games now - £5100!! Still got everything else to go but I also have a collectable trading card collection at a little over £3000, a very small number of his memorabilia items at £1700 and thats before I even start getting into the meat and bones of it all. She doesn't necessarily want half of it, It is more about the fact that she has no assets and he clearly has substantial assets probably worth £15-20k minimum so she wants to use that to bring down the amount she needs to pay to buy him out of the house. Can I ask how are you valuing the games? As second pc/console games are often not worth more than a few pounds unless than are rare or fairly new popular games. Look on cex and see what they buy at not what they sell at. And not what you think he paid for it at retail price.YoursCalley x0 -
Additionally, the few items of memorabilia I have looked at, I used sold auctions on eBay and took the 3 most recent sales and averaged them out.
The Card collection was valued by someone I know who is a buyer and seller of such things who said I could sell them as a whole, per set or per card. The total value of the cards was over £3000.0 -
Could any of the pieces be considered 'rare'? I only ask as I sold many many moons ago one of my son's pc games and it went for a stupid amount of money, far more than the others I sold.
I was worried it was some sort of scam but apparently it was considered to be a rare game.0 -

For games ignore the retail price as you will never get that even if sealed. What do you mean by current gen console? As the new gen consoles has just been released in the last few days. But you can still those games on the new consoles. I would say you would be lucky to get £3300 cash price. Even games that were released in the last year the prices drop rapidly unless a really popular game.I know you are trying to help a friend. But you are going to be asked to prove the valuation so you need to be careful. You need to list the game and the cash price that cex will buy from you for. Take a screen shot and add that to the list.I know nothing about the warhammer stuff but do know that some of it can be worth a a bit. But like everything, stuff does fall out of fashion and loses it value. Also sometimes it about being in the right place and the right time with the right buyer. It might worth your friend getting someone in who knows their stuff to come and value it. It might cost you some money but then at least you know you are not over estimating and can get them to write a letter to confirm the value. All the bestYoursCalley x

I took a screenshot of every single game I quoted on the CEX website. Nobody is looking to sell anything and raise cash, it is more about chipping down the cost of getting him out of the house.0

Warhammer stuff is crazy. Our entire conservatory is full of the bloody stuff. My husband is always buying stuff off eBay, esp the old tanks that are no longer made. He will strip the paint off and repaint. A lot of the older items are no longer made and can make some serious money second hand.
But as someone else said the actual army figures. If they are already painted then they won't be worth as much (the plastic ones anyway) but any that are not made up (and there will be some, we have a huge box my husband has never got around to gluing together) may be worth quite a bit. Unfortunately it is the kind of product that you won't be able to price in detail, it will be too hard to know what you have, they all look the same to me but there are loads and loads of different types and some are more desirable than others. If there are decent photos, spending some time in one of the actual shops (pandemic allowing) andhaving a chat with one of the staff may be most helpful. They are always very knowledgeable about the product. You may be able to get a rough idea on amount.

Don't worry I have a few friends who are massive geeks! They are currently working through the memorabilia for me to identify things and then will move onto Warhammer stuff.0

And will argue the toss about it. I get the feeling everything is going to be gone over with a fine tooth comb. Hence why you need to be careful and as I said using the retail price will not be accepted and rightly so. As the games are not new. And also why I said to get someone in who knows about the items to value it. Spending £50 could reap dividends. If you get this wrong and have nothing to back up your claims than all you are doing is dragging this out for your friend who seems to have suffered enough.I am not siding with any one. Its about what is fair and if they can't agree then it will need to go to court which than costs everyone more money.YoursCalley xHope for everything and expect nothing!!!

I understand what you are saying.
The retail price I have used isn't the "new" retail price it is what CEX will sell it for. I figured it is a reasonable assumption when calculating the actual value. What CEX will pay in cash is the least amount you will ever get, their voucher price is probably a little less than actual used value and then their retail price is the most anyone will ever pay. I figured an average of those three would be more like what you would get if you took the to sell each one individually on eBay or something. My spreadsheet details all 3 values and calculates the averages anyway so if they wanted to negotiate they would struggle to go any less than the average of the cash price and the voucher price.
For everything else I am having people who know about the stuff identify it for me and then using eBay to get the average sale price of the last 3 sold auctions of the item.0 -
