    Get that house sorted first!!!!!

It's (probably) worth a 6 figure amount of money. But a car is (probably) worth a 5 figure (or even 4 figure) amount of money.!!!!!

House first - ie its security. Car second.

Did you tell the solicitor all the family stuff in your email to the solicitor?  If so they will probably not want to take the case on.
I did tell them, yes. I don't understand why they wouldn't want to take the case though. Can you explain the logic there?

Why would they want to get involved in a load of family drama?  Not worth the fee.
Doesnt a probate lawyer deal with family drama every single day in every single case? It'd the bread and butter of their job

    No, not really.

Take a photo of the locks, put them on here someone will help you.
Alrighty, as requested, i've taken some pictures of the front door. I think it may have once had a label on it, but there is none now. I hunted all over, and the only identifying marking anywhere is a single logo that reads G-U.

The door is pretty heavy, and it has four little deadbolts all along the inside, its sturdy and secure as long as someone doesnt have the key

no model number or any other such thing.
    Any idea what it is?

Looks like a perfectly standard upvc exterior door to me from those photos. I thought, from your comments, that you meant it was some special sort of door that isn't the norm - but it's not so.

Therefore no big deal/no hassle and a locksmith will be able to change the locks okay. Should be less than £100 for both together.

Both my front and back door on current house were already swopped to upvc when I bought the house. I just called up a locksmith, he came round, locks changed - bingo = job done.

In fact I've had the locks changed a second time since moving here on one of the doors.

Locksmith's been and gone, locks are changed, hurray

Autopsy done, cause of death was coronary atherosclerosis, and chronic lung disease. Nothing suspicious, getting the death certificate soon. Whenever the registry office mails it to me, probably tuesday

Talking to the undertaker on monday to have my uncle cut out of any funeral arrangements, and clearly establish that i need to approve expenses.

Things are starting to fall into place at last, though theres tons more work to do yet. Gathering documents to take to the lawyer next week, they'll help me apply for executorship and handle the probate process. I ended up giving up on that one that took forever, and found another.

Huge thanks to everyone who's posted so far, i'll keep you guys updated on how it goes, and if i run into any new problems.

    Hi
I think you'll find that anyone is allowed to attend a funeral, although obviously with Covid you and your sister can nominate who you want to be invited. And make sure uncle can't use any of the arrangements paid by the estate.

What's the current limit for funerals in Scotland?

I didn't plan to stop him from attenting, just make sure he's not involved in arranging things. He's currently been the first point of contact for the undertaker most of this time, and i'm getting everything second hand. thats going to change

The currently limit for funerals seems to be 20. thats also the limit for receptions, which doesn't make a lot of sense. not sure if we're going to have one yet. I'd rather not, but my sister might want to

Its 30 max for the actual funeral (although may be less if the church/crematorium can't fit 30 safely, so maybe that's why you've been given a figure of 20)

For wakes its a maximum of 15 in a covid secure risk assessed venue.

The funeral director will be able to tell you the up-to-date rules for both ceremony and wake.  Back in July we were allowed 10 at the service.... and 6 afterwards.  The rules change by the day!

Hello again everyone, things have been going from bad to worse.
My grandmother has now joined this absurd conspiracy about the car, they all still insist its not stolen.
The funeral director has apparently disregarded the fact that my name is on all the forms, he's been talking to the family behind my back, relaying details of our private conversations, and letting them make arrangements. As far as i'm aware, they've only changed the music for the venue, that probably won't cost anything, but i'm rather upset on principle.  I'm currently the only one in the family who doesn't know the time of the funeral, its tomorrow and he apparently hasn't seen fit to call and inform me.

I'll find out and get there anyways. the whole gang will be present, my cousin will probably be driving the stolen car too. not looking forward to this

Finally got all the documents for the lawyer, making an appointment ASAP next week.
My sister has agreed not to dispute my executorship application. However, she's pretty emotionally unstable, and has already broken several other agreements between us in the past few weeks.

At this point, i'm not confident she'll keep this promise either. Any idea what kind of recourse i have if she refuses to sign?
