Awful weather - typical Brits talk

This is a fairly tall converted barn, and a narrow garden - totally shaded during the winter. I used the compass on my phone to check while I was there. They've now finished the details - claiming a South/Southwest garden. Well the parking area is south. And if you stood right at the bottom of the garden maybe you could claim it was SW facing. But if you're right outside the garden door, it faces north. TBH I'd like the garden to be big enough that the aspect isn't quite so critical.1

A sunny day with our first frost showing on grass, can't have been much of a frost, the dahlias etc are still looking OK if a bit battered by the recent weatherHouse / garden aspects, Google Earth has a very handy gizmo on it, find the address and along top is icon, sun with some cloud, shows sunlight & shadows with adjustable time & date. Very handy, my SIL used it to appeal when his neighbour objected to planning extension saying his house would be in darkness, utter BS and NIMBYismLovely rose pic LLOut collecting prescription this morning and took the opportunity to check on volunteer border, must have been plenty of rain because the new bird bath is full, and the California poppy self sown seedlings we transplanted have settled into their new homes for next yearToday is the turn of some ivy flowers at the volunteer border, the ivy covers an old tree stump and provides early food for bees & berries for the birds later, as well as looking quite architectural I thinkEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5

@wort just for info, here's my Cape primrose leaf cuttings I took on 06 August and have been inside a poly bag ever since. Uncovered for Autumn now. This is about ten weeks growth. The brown manky looking one lower right has got roots and very tiny plantlets BTW s don't be fooled by initial appearances
thanks for that @Farway I would have thought it was dead🤪Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.1 -

Great idea to photograph ivy, Farway. It's a wonderful wildlife plant; just not very welcome in most gardens.Yes, it's been a little wet at times this week. The stream is flowing very well now.Yesterday, I took my friend with the 'developing' new-build plot to the local garden centre to buy shrubs for added structure. We came away with 6 plants, totalling £112, but most were large enough to make an immediate impact. I'm not the best person to choose plant associations, as DB usually does that, so we placed them in potentially suitable locations and decided to leave the planting till next week.At the garden centre there was a genuine accident with a lovely grass placed prominently in a display. Friend was so taken by the tactile-looking quality, they ran the seed head through their fingers and.....you've guessed! So, now I'll be sowing Pennesitum alopecuroides 'ex-Hameln.'Rain all day today, so I did the Big Shop.
Found 'Waldo,' a small Blackberry I want to try, lurking at the back of a shelf in Morries. £2 is a good trial price.

Nice wet picture Woolsery, can almost hear the rain hammering down just looking at it. It's currently tipping down here this morning, so zero garden effort againI had to look up the grass, yep, it's one I've admired when mooching around the likes of RHS Wisley, best of luck with getting it growing but if the seeds come away easily sounds like the right time for itI also had to look up Waldo blackberry, seems a good choice, I may just have to look in Morries next week just in case although "my" one as gone downhill for plants & garden items but worth a look, I need to dispose of umpteen jars & bottles anyway, our glass collection ran out of drivers and there is a bottle bank at MorriesEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

Day after day of it and the pattern's set for the week ahead too 😞😞Just Mother Nature re-balancing the aquifers. The reservoirs are still well down.No outdoor work here today, I fear, but I spotted some blue sky on the way home from my flu jab, given by my 'real' doctor. Now there's a first! Never seen him before, but he sounds exactly the same as Toby Buckland, so easy to ID.'Waldo' was on the list for our new fruit area, along with 'Adrienne' and the old, reliable, 'Merton Thornless.' DB gave the thumbs down to 'Chester.'

But without rain, we couldn’t have rainbows! This was a triple one but my camera didn’t pick it up ☹️I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5

YBE, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
I used to say that about 'tall, dark & handsome,' but that might be overcooking it now!
Another fairly dreich day, but not cold and there's a chance of doing something useful before the next front moves in. No immediate prospect of frost either. DD snapped this mist forming in our frost pocket on a cooler night recently:Farway, I've given up on the coronilla for this year and packed the other seeds I'm sending you. I can try for a bit of rooted plant on the other side of winter instead. Just need to wait for the Deadwood Stage to come through town now....4
