Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Wind noise here is horrid. I've just taken the dog for a wee and moved a few bits of garden furniture - the garden is relatively sheltered, but one pot has blown over (sweetpeas on the corner of the patio).6
-
That sounds serious.
Do you both have trees still in full leaf ?
That is always worse.
Just wet and windy here in the sw.
No boats or container ships at sea in the Bristol channel this eveningI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Trees were in full leaf here....until this afternoon - all over the garden and surroundings now
that's the leaves, not the trees, thankfully
Lots of mini power cuts, and wet wet wet... I retreated to potting shed...Think we're in the eye now, with another lot of 50+ mph gusts forecast tomorrow morning...

It was certainly a wild night here, with so many reports of trees down. All ferries cancelled today. Our TV kept losing signal last night, but thankfully no power cuts so far. Too dark still to see what the damage is to the local area.
Molerat, hope you didn't lose power.
Less, hope you're okay.
twopenny, I can't believe you're still having to water pots - I wonder if Farway has to as well. Seems mad with the weather we're getting.
Hope everyone is staying safe today - we've got 40+mph winds forecast for pretty much all of today, so it's not over yet...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
We now have 50mph or thereabouts predicted, wet and large hail stones 😲
So don't think I'll be picking tomatoes into November this year.
Net goes on and off.
And it's wet but so far the wind seems to be blowing high up around the big trees.
I may not have to water the pots d'reikly but the rain doesn't go right down and some are under the shelter of the eves.
I'm guessing Bluey must have blown the computer with all the honeymoon photos 😁😉I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Bit calmer out there now, background wind down to mid 20s with mid 30s gusts but forecast to increase again. Local weather station, about 5km in a straight line - I can see it out the upstairs windows, recorded a max gust of 73mph at 2300 with background winds of 40-50 mph all night - was a bit noisy out there. SEN showing 233 outages at the moment but we have been OK. Had a look out the windows and a few bits of twig and leaves around but no visible damage.4

Morning all
Have we all come through the storm ok? I think did you get the brunt of it up there pp? It wasn't so bad here, bit blowy last night with some rain in it, but nothing damaging. The sobers say we topped out at 50mph winds yesterday evening, and breezy again today up to 45 mph. But then they also say it's currently raining (I'm sat in lovely sunshine streaming through the window) and the Feels Like is 1'c (it's kinda cool out there) so what do they know.
Either today or tomorrow I'll be able to post properly cos I bought a 'laptop' yesterday. I went to one of those 2nd hand games and techy bits shops, applied my usual method of finding good staff which I daren't repeat - but which held true again - and after a few questions about what I'll be doing on the thing I bought a little Acer something. Just need to set it up and get used to it, and somehow empty my old laptop into it so I can start using it. I don't have an external hard drive or a lot of cloud storage so is it an impossible or just Herculean task?
OT it says it's raining, it's not, and cold, also wrong, and the rain will carry on for a good wee while yet. They say.My husband told me to stop speaking in numbers, but I don't 1 2.5 -
@molerat which website do you use to find the outages...?My husband told me to stop speaking in numbers, but I don't 1 2.3

Bright & sunny morning, a bit breezy but nothing as bad as elsewhere by the sound of things, and it's quite mild as well.pink_poppy said:twopenny, I can't believe you're still having to water pots - I wonder if Farway has to as well. We had a wet and windy night here, but nothing we've not experienced many times before. The leccy and internet stayed on. At some time between midnight and 01.00 I saw the lights of a helicopter roving about. It was probably the Air Ambulance. Again, that's not unusual, but I'm sure they weren't up there for fun!Right now, we're in a sunny and apparently benign lull, but as I discovered when releasing the hens around 07.20, that may change in an instant! I was in my PJs!
There's been some thunder about 7 miles west of here, but nothing sustained. According to the Exeter seaweed seers, we're getting over 50mph in the gusts for the next 5 hours, so I'm not going to a coffee morning in town, as planned. If they're sensible, they'll call it off.
No gardening yesterday; just shopping and watching my friend's sheltered garden getting a little blown about. I didn't realise how strong the winds had become until following the estuary homewards, thanks to a road closure. That sent me 15 miles out of my way.It was still fairly 'normal' weather inland, with the rivers still low, and looking at the water levels this morning, there's no great increase yet.
pink_poppy said:What a lovely colour Dahlia, Farway. I had a pink one years ago that was called Bishop something.I might have found a robin after you posted yours, but I doubt I'll be able to snap a wee Blue Tit so close, especially today!
twopenny said:Dusty can you eat parasol mushrooms? They are so photogenic it would be a shame if you couldn't.We're into Symphotrichum Aster season now, so here's one I like, but the colour's a little wrong in the photo. As the name implies, it's darker and more bluey purple.
Hope all's well with those who've not signed in yet.Just say, "No!"6
