Blue sky & sunshine so far, much the same all week, allegedly.Sad Hog news Dusty, but at least with Mrs D the young ones have a fighting chance of seeing 2026Good spot on the leaky pipe, I'd guess there is some magic two-part epoxy paste to bung the hole up, sort of Araldite for fuel pipes, or chewing gum if out on the moors.Or even use a plastic one slipped over the old ends plus some Jubilee clips from Bodgit & Run?YBE that sea hardly miffed
Very good. Pansies settled in, and not blown away or devoured yet2P, those apples look great, Cox's I think you said. Once a crop arrives, all the previous failures are forgiven.I have a mystery with the large tomatoes that arrived unexpectedly. I picked two that were just showing ripening colour, and put them in a safe spot to ripen indoors. Now I can't find them. :'(Searched everywhere, all very odd. I've picked another one and that is on the mantle piece, under my nose. The vine weevils have returned!
Some foxgloves in pots have suffered, with roots nibbled & gnashedOnly some at present. I've planted them deeper and applied Jeyes F to the affected pots, time will tell if replanting has helped or notIf not I'll pop something else in, not sure what yet, plastic Tulips probably
On alert for the Super moon, ta YBE, last time it was behind trees so completely wasted. But I can AI fake it now, I wonder if Elvis or the double-decker bus will show up there?

The grey didn't arrive until about 12.30, so our forecast was uneccessarily downbeat. Grey mostly for the rest of the week too, but no rain or big hoolies, so potentially working weather.Farway said:Blue sky & sunshine so far, much the same all week, allegedly.Sad Hog news Dusty, but at least with Mrs D the young ones have a fighting chance of seeing 2026Good spot on the leaky pipe, I'd guess there is some magic two-part epoxy paste to bung the hole up, sort of Araldite for fuel pipes, or chewing gum if out on the moors.Or even use a plastic one slipped over the old ends plus some Jubilee clips from Bodgit & Run?
The petrol pipe is rubber, so it's a 'straightforward' replacement job, supposedly. The Chinese will have it covered.
As for the hogs, we've been asked to capture all four and take them to a special wildlife woman who'll test their droppings for parasites, feed them up etc etc. Then, later, we'll get them back, to release at Dusty Acres.Sounds good, but she's 15 miles away, and we're committed to other things tomorrow. Maybe Wednesday.

Oh Dusty, RIP Mrs Hog
Good news that the babbies are big enough already that they should make it
Gomphostigma Virgata looks appealing eh, is it fragrant too? Reminds of my three that are not called cystitis. Is that a common plant? What are the odds of some sticking to me while I'm out and about..?
I hope the Wandering Tomatoes show themselves soon Farway
Grrr to vine weevils, they really are relentless bu99ers eh. Looking forward to your supermoon pics... I wonder if Lord Lucan will be up there... he's been gone ages now, I'm a bit worried about him
Here's a top tip for people buying houses, with possibly filthy lucre. Don't be giving your children large sums of money so they can 'gift' it back to you so you can buy a house outright. I don't doubt that'd fly in some countries, but this ain't one of them. I mean, how many 11 year olds have earned £680k !!!!!!?! *sigh* You'd think that'd be page 1 of the playbook - make it believable - but apparently not. Luckily there was also a language barrier, or the whole thing would've been cleared up quickly and BBM wouldn't have had his share of fun out of it
No Super moon pics here. I got a pic of the supermoon but it looks like all the pics I take of the moon - like you're looking up the end of a torch  It's a shame for it was lovely in real life -
OT lovely and mild if a bit damp out there this morning. Currently 12'c with a high of 17' to come, they say. Hopefully the SSEN folks will get cracked on in the good weather
Is everyone still in their beds from being up late to get pics of the moon then...?Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.7 -
Not in bed here, but my piddlymoon photos will have to wait, 'cos it's the big rectification of drainage event here today.
Mr Digger's on his way....And your picture's better than any of mine, Bluey. I shall blame Mrs Dusty, running around with her torch, hedgehog spotting.
Now we have 5,but there's also a young fox, so discovering where it has a den is useful. Eviction will follow....maybe with the digger!
Another calm, mild day here, allegedly. Just right, wind from the west, taking the smell of poo in the right direction....

Brighter shade of grey this morning, mild though. My Moon pics were a complete flop, not even "end of torch" quality
. Yet again, Earth was in the wrong spot, so Moon half hidden by trees, and what there was, I managed to blur. Can we have an Observatory in the grounds of Rottery Acres, please, maybe on the lake shore?Good news on the baby hogs care, Dusty. Do they ever get "tame" like robins? Free to come & go but turn up for photo shootsJeyes F applied to Vine weevil hotels, now wait & seeJust looking out of my window, the Ash leaves are an excellent golden colour, if the sun gets up & right angle it may make nice photo, small compensation for moon blurBluey, thanks for Top Tip, I was about to hand zillions to DGS but somehow his PT job in Sainsbugs may not cover it.I guess in the "Old Country" a suitable Arrangement fee to ensure smooth running would also have to be paid during the transaction.Good news, the wayward tomatoes have been found. They were in the fruit bowl with the apples, of course
, and had ripened, so my wonky eyes thought they were apples
Weren't toms called Love Apples when first introduced? Here they are, a couple more are still ripening outsideI'll smear some seeds just in case this unknown breed is super duper special oneIgnore the ventilation hole in right-hand one, it lets the wood lice out !

We were severely hampered by cloud here, so my moon pics are more like the Second Coming. Given the parlous state of things, that mightn't be a bad shout, either!

Drainage proceeding apace. We should be done in an hour or so.
We've also had a non-digital log delivery as a payment for something, but as the new system may encourage an element of neighbour dobbing-in, I'm afraid I can't say more.
The hedgepigs are getting used to us, Farway. Some don't bother to curl up now. I must ask Mrs D for more photos, though once you've seen one hedgehog.......Glad some toms came good in the end.
I'll swear our 'volunteer' ones taste better than their parents.

Trying to get a message to load and it's not working.........just a practice.Loving the photos, sad about Mrs Hog but happy the babies are getting a good home.Farway did you see BakeOff with the chocolate frangipan and pear tart. How's your baking?
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Morning all
Hopefully digger successfully ...rehomed... the fox Dusty? We're not short of foxes but babby hedgehogs need all the help they can get
I like your moon pics, I can get rarely convince my camera to capture the colours round the moon when I try pics like that  Is today the day you take the hoglets to the rescue woman?
Good news you found your Wandering Toms Farway, how poetic you found them with the apples
I never knew woodlice ate toms though, honestly you can't have anything can you *sigh* It's the other way round re the gifted deposit - you can give DGS a bunch of money cos you're old enough to have earned plenty, but he couldn't give you a bunch of money cos he's not old enough to have legally earned it acquired it in a way that the gummint approves of. Absolutely yes to an Observatory, a big yoke like that wosname in Cambridge. In fact could we 3D print one...?
Mmmm frangipane yum slather drool
That was one of my favourites 2p, mind I've never had it with pear but I bet that's heaven
With a diddy blobbette of good ice-cream. Mmmmm....
OT All quiet on the eastern front now. It's rained overnight, but I don't know when cos the apps reckon it's been nothing but dry. 11.c currently with a high of 15' to come, possibly. The humidity's back though, not a fan. I'd sooner have cold and dry than wrongly warm and humid.
Is that the travellers away then? Happy hols pp and wort. Bon Voyage even
Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.5 -
I think Mrs D was jumping to conclusions when she insisted, “The quick brown fox went under the pile o'logs!” There was no evidence of a den.
I believe she just lost sight of him there. He's returned, though, and he's been captured, on film. That's more than we can say for the hoglets, most of whom were absent last night. If we catch some tonight, or later in the week, we'll pop them in the big ferret cage here and take them to Hedgehog Rescue Woman the next day. Not seeing them for one night doesn't mean they've moved away.
Septic tank drain end was cleared and 9m of new pipe laid. We're slowly replacing the crappy old corrugated pipes with new, solid ones. Doing it all in one go would be more expense than we'd want, but we're within sight of that target now. It would be nice to be fully compliant with regs by the time we sell and move to the old folk's home!
You don't want to see drains, so here's a photo taken in the last 5 minutes of tidying-up. A good digger person won't be left with a pile of stuff, or leave the field with a hump in it!
Harvest moon pictures? Yes, got some of those, but not much better than Monday night's....and this site is playing silly burgers, so the one I have won't load!
Maybe later.Meanwhile, after a partially sunny and calm day yesterday, we've woken to misty, drizzly stuff which may clear later, according to the cider seers.“ A government big enough to supply everything you need, is big enough to take everything you have.” Thomas Jefferson6 -
I've had trouble with the site too.
Definitely wouldn't take my photos and I wasn't sure about the text so wasn't going to write all the thank yous.
What a good digger man Dusty 🙂 I hope you kept his number.
Loved the sea pic Bluey, perfect. I have a feeling you may be moving to the seaside at some point. I have lots of different beaches accessible from my place as Exmoor has a whole coast as well as moorland and woodland valleys which is why I stay..
Things seem to be going well at Farway meadows with all the bounty and it looks delicious despite the woodlice 😉
I'm running around , all the stuff I used to do has gone and pools, hair dressers, doctors all need changing at once.
Back lawn needs mowing, done some clearing but seems back has come out in sympathy with the leg so it's all a bit random.
Hopefully photos laterI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
