Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Then I have a lovely photo for you but it's on a camera so needs downloading.
The sea has been pretty churned up for some weeks now what with one weather event after another.
Glad you're ok Farway, bonus if you can get the protection without repercussions. Not sure shifting a big bin in wind is going to help that though.
I remember your lovely colours in profusion.
Welcome It's the little things. (Grrrr to predictive text 😬) Love the fern, I've grown some in the garden but never been successful in the house. Got a lemon coloured one and inherited with the house a giant one among others.
Dusty you do seem to be doing better than us weather wise. Probably as well with that gorgeous huge garden you have and poly tunnel.
Love the little squashes. Now I want some 🙂
One thing about the wind, I seem to have got all my apples this year as not varmits are around. Very small but had one yesterday and the flavour is good now the tree is a bit older. Just the right size really as more inclined to snack on a small one.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

So what'll you with all those pumpkins then Dusty? Pies and jams and stuff...?
I like the look of your apples 2p, I see what you mean about being the right snacking size... Opposite to mine, which are gonna pop if they keep growingI like your emojis too, they've a charming shape to them eh

Love the little squashes. Now I want some 🙂The thing I never thought about with your location (apart from blooming tourists!) was the ran shadow effect of Exmoor. The more I watch the rain radar, the more I understand why it's more benign here than expected. Yes, we get sufficient rain, when it's about, but more tracks along the southern and middle slopes of Exmoor, missing us.
It's similar in the south, where places like Okehampton are dumped-on, as the clouds coming in from the Atlantic, track the north edge of the moor. We miss some of those too.Farway, those squash were all outdoors. I think they'd get mildew in the tunnel. At present, I'm getting lots of mange touts from plants grown in big pots, but the ones in the tunnel are succumbing to mildew now, whereas the outdoor ones are till doing fine. It's knowing what one can get away with...and when!Welcome itsthelittlethings. Looking at the plaque above your lovely collection, did you once live in a North Cornish seaside town?Just say, "No!"5 -
Our "damage" has been the empty water butt which is waiting for me to set up blew over and the lid fell off along with one planter on its side, surprised considering the ferocity of the storm. There is a gap in the foliage along our bottom fence, neighbour's shrub has disappeared. Daughter, 5 miles away, has suffered a bit worse. Husband had to secure the fence with a couple of ratchet straps as the posts were being pushed over and the greenhouse has lost a couple (more since last storm) of plastic panels. SIL spent 20 hours off power, got back on about 6 yesterday evening. Still showing as 254 power outs across the network and welfare facilities have been set up all over the region https://www.ssen.co.uk/news-views/2025/How-were-supporting-customers-during-storm-Amy/. All time UK October low pressure of 947.8 mb recorded in Shetland.Minding their own business driving along an A road and .........Someone suggested they should pop along to the local shop and buy a lottery ticket !

Molerat that photo reminds me of a journey home from work years ago.
I decided not to take the top road as I'd had to dodge sweeping broken power lines that morning, but to use the wooded valley road for shelter.
6 trees had come down like that across the road and they were chain sawing through the last one.
But us few cars had to queue under other swaying trees. A lot of prayers said that evening 😳
I will walk in the wind but not walk or drive through trees in a storm since then.
Glad you've come out fine and the family.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Hi all, not on hols yet and not going to Germania. Flying out later this week ,a bigger boat than the ferry ! 😂 Hoping wind will be gone by then.I’ve spent the weekend inside , the storm sounded scary, so I hunkered down. I did have to go to pick up the Acer in a large pot a few times, I finally managed to drag it around the corner and put rocks around it.The red leaved photo was my garden 2p the weeping willow along the canal.Glad all are safe from the storm. I had internet problems not sure if the storm caused them , but seems ok now. Last day in work today so hope you all have a lovely day and Pp gets her holidayFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5

Morning all
Welcome itsthelittlethingsI'm a one with houseplants too, but we can kill and or cure them just as readily as garden plants ha ha!
Well done for trying to keep us on track with the talk of rain shadows and clouds tracking the landscape there Dusty. Interesting was that, more things I didn't know I didn't know
Sorry I missed your post yesterday Farway, I take too long writing mine... Are you looking all colourful now with your pansies settled in?
Wow that is low pressure molerat, it'll be lifting again now is it? Good to hear another one got away with no real damageState of that car! I hope that person bought a lottery ticket too
You'd never feel right driving through trees in a storm again eh 2p! I meant to say yesterday - if you get sick of the serving platter behind your apple bowl, I'll have it off ye
Enjoy your hols to wherever wortIsn't someone going to/gone to Germany...? I thought it was you
Stoopid brain. I hope your last day in work is an easy one
Well we did get to the beach yesterday, and it wasn't at all angry. Not even mildly miffed tbh, which was a surprise cos the wind still had a bit of power in it -
Talking to Cissie last night, there's a few trees come down on the shore road and she's upset about that. They're big old trees that she used to climb when she was little and they've cracked and toppled like they were made of rice crispies. Beloved Cousin says the wind got near 100mph up at Magilligan Point so it's a wonder that's all the damage there was. Donegal took a proper battering though she said. They were under a red warning and it was justified. Poor souls.
OT quite a nice day in store they say. It's 12'c currently with a high of 17' to come, possibly. Sunny and bright and the last of the breeze, humidity dropping, grand day for a washAnd it's a supermoon tonight so there should be some good pics to be had, clouds allowing

Glad you've come out fine and the family. For me that particular road is a no go during storms or snow, it winds through woods and is regularly blocked by snow drifts, and is also a bit of an accident black spot. My daughter hated it when she had to travel it every day for work.Daughter popped by yesterday morning, on their way to B&Q for repair materials, and commented on how calm it was here compared to the still howling wind at home190And this morning 16.9 deg outside and a gentle breeze. Hopefully SSEN will finish reconnecting people today, still showing 190 outages.

I'm afraid I've bad hedgehog news.
Mummy hedgehog had died in the nest, so Mrs Dusty removed her and took advice regarding the one young hog that was still with her. Fortunately, it's a good weight, so she was told to just keep feeding, as before.
Then, after dark, 3 more wee hogs appeared, so they were all weighed and marked, so we know which is which. They're heavier, and should be fine, come winter. Not much other news. My brushcutter was cutting-out under load, so I examined it, to discover a wee hole in the petrol pipe. It was lucky I stopped before the leak worsened.YouTube video needed now to fix, I expect. I already have one lined-up for the leaky valve on a toilet....at least that can't catch fire!
At present it's bright like your picture here, Bluey, but apparently clouds are on the way and we shall have a relatively calm, overcast day. Suits me.We must prepare for the arrival of digger man tomorrow....
More hedgehog pics on the way. Meanwhile:This is a Buddleia relative I've probably posted in the past. It's more refined and doesn't self-seed.Good, silvery-everygrey foliage, and it flowers when most other plants are knackered. About 1m when fully grown, it goes easily from cuttings. That just leaves the name in the way of greater popularity!
Bon voyage pp and wort.Just say, "No!"6
