Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Cloudy, light grey and very chilly.
I over slept after yesterday's shenanigans so all behind and lethargic.
Farway I heard there was a doorbell that you could switch off which I like the sound of. Someone always seems to call when I've hunkered down for a relaxing day so I could pretend to be out without the guilt 😉
Shopping and going for a sneaky look at a tucked away bungalow with a stream running by. Pretty sure it's a no go but curious.
It's not inspiring out there for a walk or gardening but I do need to do some pruning and get the hose pipe out again because the ground in the fence shadows is still bone dry.
Won't post my moon shot as there are nice ones already.
Love the pink sky, I think they are almost nicer than a sunset.
Looking forward to hog news.
Taff you'll have to get on with some gardening to work off all that delicious food 🙂 hope the new boiler keeps you snug this winter. I need to get on with a thermostat but dread the trying to get someone to do it.
Bluey are you still working Fridays? That's usually a good day for lunatics to appear.
Hope I haven't missed anyone, the site still seems to be playing up a bit.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Managed to get the plum pruned and it looks much better even if it is the wrong time.
It's covered in blossom, much smaller than spring. Very odd.
Yes I had to lop some off but there's plenty left for the insects.
Got a bit of the pruning on the wall hydrangea, wisteria and rose that are all entwined. There's probably some clematis in there as well. It was too hot to keep it under control in the summer.
Watered the plant pots in front too. My water tub is out of water!
The tomatoes have gone potty with the heat too. I've got tiddly round ones, small drop ones, huge round ones and huge drop ones.....I only planted 2 types 😵💫
Some must be from the compost and others gardeners delight gone rogue.
Cold again tonight.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Morning all
Late on this morning, I've been gardening but I've had to come for it's cold and damp out there and my hands are achey.
Good to hear the hoglets are all sorted and snuggled in Dusty, well MrsD, and good pics you got there
Your harvest moon pic reminds me of something but I can't think what it is.... There's a lovely calmness to the pinky one
Double fingers crossed for your hydrangea root pp, and woohoo for no foxes
Is blackie still there this morning? Could you throw some food down under a bush/shelter so he can get a bit of safety..?
Welcome back taff
Glad you enjoyed Germania. Did you get good pics of funny foreign things..? Good top tip re the apple corer, one to stash away in the back of my head.
Do you want me to nip and ask The absolutely stone deaf Oracle what her doorbell setup is Farway? It's not a Rong one I know that. I once rang her thinking she was out to tell her her burglar alarm was going off, well she was sat in watching telly - about 10ft from the thing
So whatever it is it's unmissable.
2p I can recommend fly papers for compost gnats/fruit flies. Not pretty but they work. Nope I'm not at work today, hence I'm late on. I only work Fridays if OMM is stuck, but now we've Alice in Wonderland I get my Fridays back
I'm in no danger of missing the crazies, they're out all the goddam time. You wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry! Did you get a look at the bungalow..?
OT cool and damp and sunny out there. I've washing to do and DomNon and food shopping, Mum+Dad could do with a titivate and some flowers probably, and I'll drop in to Posh Friend. And a bit more of a go in my garden, while the weather's decent. Lovely high pressure and a bit of sun, after the humidity lifts, is alright by me
Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.8 -
That pigeon impersonating a more graceful bird makes your moon shot particularly lovely, pp!

So did you take a peek anyway?twopenny said:Shopping and going for a sneaky look at a tucked away bungalow with a stream running by. Pretty sure it's a no go but curious. .....It's not inspiring out there for a walk or gardening
I found you a nice cottage in our area yesterday, but making it into a bungalow would be hard!
It wasn't inspiring weather for a walk yesterday, but friend and I explored an old estate on the coast regardless. More of that later....
Meanwhile, the hedgehog news has changed, with the Hog Lady saying she felt Mrs Dusty was coping well, so it wouldn't be necessary to move (and stress) the youngsters by removing them from the environment they know. Instead, they're going to stay here, continue to be fed nightly, and have their weights monitored. All but one are growing well. That one will have to be taken to the rescue if it fails to thrive.
This is all well and good, but Mrs D doesn't see all the hogs every night, and there’s no guarantee they'll stick around. It'll also become colder soon, and staying out for an hour or two in the dark might become less pleasant!
Our main concern at present is the young fox. It turns up every night! We're not sure if it poses any threat to the hogs, which are now prickly. We think it's more curious than anything, and it can't get at the food.
This is where we kept the wee hogs overnight. They made quite a mess, but used the hay boxes to sleep in, once they'd sorted them out to their satisfaction!Mrs D's fox picture won't upload :'( , so here are the hens inspecting the air Hog B&B, before they took up residence overnight:

For some unknown reason, I'm at sixes & sevens this morning. I think it was so dark when I got up, at my normal time, just darker than usual, so I never really got into gear when I should've.I've wasted time looking for some photos I know are in my PC, somewhere, only loaded them this morning !
I can spot them, but when I try to open them up I fail to see them. It used to be fine on my old machine; this new one is far too clever, probably waiting for my digital ID card clearance
Thanks for the offer, but I now have the replacement up & donging away.YoungBlueEyes said:Do you want me to nip and ask The absolutely stone deaf Oracle what her doorbell setup is Farway? So whatever it is it's unmissable. It's like a mad house, honestly. There are three chime things, each one plugs into a mains socket, so I have two downstairs & one up in spare bedroom office
However, they all play a different tune, at the same time, when bell is pushed.I could spend the rest of my sad existence getting them to dong from the same hymn sheet, but my life is too short, and I'm temporarily out of Fs to give
At least I can hear them, even if it is like musical BabelJust need the bloke from Premium Bonds million quid winner department to ring & I'm sortedThe weather is dreary, not raining, just dreary damp. I shan't be gardening today, although I think I need to water, again, but to add to my woes my flu shot is giving "Flu like symptoms", so a bit achy and coughing.I'll settle with a hot drink & YouTube laterSounds like it could be a worrying time with hoglets & a fox Dusty. At least they will be OK for a while.Retried for my photos, found one, it's the Ash on road outside my house

HELLO EVERYONE I AM BACK!!
I am so very sorry to be MIA for the last few months - I've got over 600 comments to catch up on so thought I'd post first and read later.
The reasons for my lack of presence are rather dull - I have been overtrading a bit with my work and I ended up being part of a small group of people who have set up a charity (after a national charity went pop last December) and that has taken an AWFUL lot of time, energy and headspace. Things are calming down a bit now but we've had to be on our mettle for various reasons and that takes patience and thought (not things I am known for!!).
I am working from my Mum's today and took some blooming lovely turbine pics which I hope you like!!

In gardening news, I have potted on four of my saplings into galvanised dustbins (4 for £60) and potted on some smaller trees into their next sized pots. I FINALLY started to dig my pond and in true MSE style used the soil to fill the bins/ pots etc so saved a few quid on compost!! I am going to dig a bit more of my pond this weekend and hope to line it and fill it up over the winter with the rain water. My garden looks like it is heading to the land of nod with the exception of a fabulous Cosmos which has done itself proud all summer long.
I think that's it for now, I am going to get my specs on and a cuppa ready so I can catch up on all the shenanigans from summer! Missed you all

Even if heading for slumber, your garden still looks mighty attractive, WM. We've missed you, and your photos from early/late perambulations with Rome0 among the turbines.
Somehow, our local wind farm never looks half as attractive as yours! :'(It sounds as if you have an excellent reason for being absent here, too.
Sometimes, balancing all the plates just becomes impossible. I've felt that a little today, as jobs I wanted to do have been abandoned for tedious grass cutting, both at neighbours, and at home. The good news is that the neighbour thinks a sale is going through, so the half-acre I'm trying to keep tame might not need too much attention soon. We'll be sad to see the neighbour go, but she has no alternative, and a much more suitable property for her changed circumstances awaits.
It hasn't been much of a day here, weatherwise. The grey cloud never lifted, and it was coool. Sorry, I'm too knackered to write any more, so I'll save yesterday's garden visit for another time. As a teaser for 2p, here's the view, albeit hazy and grey:
Can you spot the baby elephant?

Hi WM, lovely to see you back 🙂 you've been missed.
But brilliant what you've been doing. It's good to know there's people like you out there who keep the best of this world going.
Dusty, I'm stumped. Don't tell me and I'll have another go in the morning.
Is it Appledore?
Good news on your neighbour.
Farway, are you sure alll that ringing is going to be beneficial and not finish off your hearing? Sounds horrendous!
On the other hand it's possible to get very engrossed in playing with photos on the computer.
Today was mostly social and exercise and looks like some exercises I did in the pool balanced things out or something and I could move so what did I do with this new found freedom but get the steps and pruners into the badger run and cut the lot of over grown Jasmine down to fence height! And some weeding in the garden 🙂
Such a relief to get it done and not have to add it to the handyman list.
So I'm back to the pool just to exercise tomorrow and see if I can get the same result.
Did I post this, can't remember but I've even got tomatoes growing from the compost heap
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I've been awake since 4am with achy hips after spending at least 6 hours in the car yesterday on a return trip to the cemetery. It shouldn't have taken quite so long, but we were stuck behind drivers at various times trundling along at 40mph on 60mph roads with no way to get past them

Mr Blackbird does shelter under the bushes sometimes, YBE, but quite often he's sat out in the open. I don't think he's in a fit state to be heading south for the winter, which is what I think they normally do??
I think I can see the wee elephant, Dusty (using the magnifier on my phone haha) is it in front of the trees?? Lovely photo, btw. We went to a beach yesterday, but it started to rain so I didn't get out of the car.
Really nice to see you back, W_M, and some lovely photos, as always
Seems mad to have tomatoes growing outside in October, twopenny.
The forecast for our trip away next week has changed. It bloomin' would, wouldn't it... Now forecast to be grey, instead of the lovely sunshine that was promised. Oh well, I'm still looking forward to being away. It was a year ago yesterday/today that we had the amazing Aurora when we were on Harris, so I was hoping we would have clear skies again this time.
Grey clouds, but staying dry today...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
A couple of pics from last year - I’ve never seen anything like it, it was absolutely insane… 😍
