Bit blowy and gloomy here.
I ache in all sorts of places, guess I didn't take enough care so it's a self care day today.
Lovely robin Dusty 🙂 we still have no birds around here. Very strange. The odd one has visited but not stayed. Maybe it's the rooks, crows that have taken up residence.
Tell Mrs D to try Jersey clotted cream if she can find it. I don't like cream either. Used to make me feel queasy but by pure chance I found the Jersey is a different protein structure and I found it delicious. Fortunately, they've stopped selling it here or I'd be a lot wider 😁
Probs in deli's, small shops as there's more profit in the factory stuff.
You do have some wonderful sunsets and sunrise there bluey. How's your neighbour? Calm enough that you don't have to move?
Watched GW last night. I don't know who's directing but we had 2 big gardens that were supposed to be amazing but just got close ups of flowers and people which was no help at all.
And the woman off Love your garden is wishy-washy. They keep trying to promote her probably because theres never been a woman fronting it.
We need someone who does things. Not flits around.

You're right, the holiday was doomed, Farway. We've ended up cancelling the whole thing
so disappointing, but it's just one of those things. I blame Hurricane Humperdinck
Where are you off to on your hols, wort?? Hope you're not going by ferry
Gorgeous photos from everyone... rainbows, rays, robins and red autumnal leaves
The place we went to with the lovely cottage had masses of acorns on the ground and I did google what I could do with them (if I wasn't feeding them to pigs) apparently acorn coffee is a thing... a bit of a faff, but worth the effort.
Anyway, very heavy rain here, with a lot more to come, and Storm Amy to add to the mix...'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Awww that's disappointing PoppyBut my experience of life tells me that (mostly) when something like that happens there's something better on the horizon. Hope that's the case.Wonder where Farway is? Hope he's alright and not been sucked into an alien invasion that is AI and the abscence is an unexpected treat and not a worry/ Oh scrolled back and I missed a couple of posts. 'Tinternet isn't what it should be.Wort, beautiful reflections. and that colour combination, is it yours?Gloomy old day, exhausted, maybe the gloom and could do with a long sleep but idiot next door is ready to go at 4.45 tomorrow morning.I wonder if fhe computer failure is catching? seems mine isn't happy to download photos without a heck of a fuss. New computer and new camera - good job I'm not planning a tripBut I've got one from my friends studio of gorgeous cat. Was rescued from misery and likes to be next to or around people nowNot artist friend lol............anyone will doShe has 2 silver tabbys that are sooo photogenic but wouldn't appear when I had the camera!Got more of the door done and covered because rain (maybe) predicted. Finished mixing compost, rubbish with stuff given to me, and potted up a big geranium. Mowed the front lawn - I'm learning to stop so did leave the back lawn.Noticed that triffid Sage which is flagging under yet another drought, needs a lot of pruning back but new shoots seem to be appearing on lower branches. Exciting isn't it . not!The leaves are turning lovely colours everywhere almost overnight but I don't think it will be much of an autumn colour as the leaves are dropping super fast.

Farway said:Uni & thinking are opposites for DGS at the moment, he has no idea at all, but I was the same at his age, however, unlike today's fodder, we had lots of jobs to walk into. There were always jobs as Capstan Lathe Turners, I never really found out what one was, it seemed exciting at 16, but bet it wasn't.I've just looked it up, phew, seems I had a narrow escape there"well-suited for repetitive tasks"One job that must have vanished early on with CNC machining. Can you imagine, years of forty hour weeks on some repetitively boring & oily machine turning out screws, then replaced one Friday by a paper ribbon with holes in it.The CNC machines were still manned (can I say that?
) when I was crawling around under them, bathed in various lubricants, in the mid 70s. Some operators disliked me, not for personal reasons, but because I was free. They had to put their hand up if they needed the loo between breaks.
I could move about where I pleased, and apart from major incidents, choose the jobs, their order, and my break times. I might have ended-up filthy, covered in sawdust and plastic pieces, but there was the dignity of personal choice.
Yes, there were plenty of jobs to select from then. One reason I made so much money, was others preferring not to do messy work. My hours were technically one shift, but I'd do 1.5 shifts frequently, because they couldn't find another cleaner-upper in the whole 6 months I was there. And it was a step up from my chicken farm days, just after leaving school. When I was doing that, my Mum wouldn't let me enter the house with my overalls on. I had to change in the shed first!Love your Parthenocissus and perennial sunflower combination, wort. Those willows, bridges, and waters are restful looking too. I could just pull up a chair there and cast a worm out by those branches....or get tangled up in them, more like!
2p, I wish you hadn't mentioned your garden door.It reminded me of the false stable door on the house in need of attention. So...today being grey, I spent a few hours filling a cross piece which should really be replaced, using horrible plastic gunge that sets in 10 minutes flat. That should hold things till spring, when my SiL may have the time to make a replacement. Right now, he's tiling his new bathroom in readiness for connecting-up at the weekend. Then, at last, there won't be any more 24 mile round trips to us for a shower! It will also mean he and DD have completed the upstairs in their house. No more swirly ceilings, acres of anaglypta and wonky floors!
Sorry to hear you'll miss your holiday pp.It does look like being rough up there, though!
We'll see what things are like in the morning here. A quick trip to Rosemoor might be possible.
Just say, "No!"5 -
Grey, raining, and due to be windy.
Rosemoor's off.
Shopping's on.
Here's a picture or two of the Parasol mushrooms we found a week ago on the clifftop. I've just posted them on the mushroom thread, so they must go here as well!

Still here 2P, a bit like Tony B, keep popping up just when you think it's clearDustyevsky said:Yes, there were plenty of jobs to select from then. Some bloke is down inside, suspended on a harness, scraping it out.Not sure if acting or not, but just the pong had JC puking over the fenceLooking at V'sky seems the cancellation was in order PP, and I'm guessing Rosemoor is a non-starter as well DustyJust refreshed, enjoy the shoppingPlanted out my pansies & alliums into the two large pots yesterday, I wanted to get them in for this rain. It's been raining overnight, currently it's like winter, dark & wet, with more this afternoon along with the back end of PP's storm for laterYour SiL sounds like a handy person to have about Dusty, especially with able bodies. Is he, or DD the one to sort out computers / mobiles etc? I had to use DGS for PCsFunny things cats 2P, we had one that loved being around us, followed us down the road & waiting for us when we got home.Another was happy just using us as feeding station & doss houseTo cheer us up on a wet day, here's Bishop of Oxford, in yesterday's sunshineNumerus non sum6 -
Aw, that black pussycat looks exactly like the one we had before the one we have now, twopenny, with the same beautiful orange eyes. He chose us and was a lovely cat.
Fab mushroom pics, Dusty.
Shame you couldn't get to Rosemoor today. I've been shopping this morning and there were lots of people panic buying pineappleade (Still Game joke)
What a lovely colour Dahlia, Farway. I had a pink one years ago that was called Bishop something.
We've got 70+mph winds forecast for this afternoonI'm hoping we don't get another power cut because I hated it last time. We've got phones and power banks charged up, even if it's just to use the torch on our phones. Our ferry still isn't cancelled, although the app is saying it's liable to short notice cancellation. The one today is cancelled, which is no surprise as it's 80+mph winds where it was due to be headed...

I heard a little tippity tapping on the window yesterday when I was sat reading, and looked up to see this… 💙💛

Poppy that's a little treasure 🙂 how lovely...
Farway such gorgeous colours you grow
Dusty can you eat parasol mushrooms? They are so photogenic it would be a shame if you couldn't.
Very wet and windy here but not too cold. Despite the rain I need to get out and water the pots 😬

And so it begins. Currently 141 150 165 power outages in the SSEN area. Local weather station has recorded 60 mph gusts so far, 80 mph forecast. Will have to see what is left of the fence / pots / shrubs on Monday as it is not expected to completely ease until 7pm Sunday5
