Sunny start, but still a tad damp from yesterday, no more rain predicted until the weekend, so looking like back to watering again, who would've thought it in October?YoungBlueEyes said:Oh and things I've previously forgotten to say - happy birthday ITV (70 years old), same age as fish fingers (70 last week), and it's not the Orange Shitgibbon any more, it's Mango Mussolini
And you missed happy birthday to the choo choos, 200 years.I remember ITV starting, but you needed a different ariel and a set-top box to receive it, so only those with more than two h'pennies to rub together got itWe lived in a hole and ate coke so never had itAs mentioned, still damp out so no gardening, not much to do right now anyway, the blackbirds have just noticed the pyracantha [sp?] berries, but there's plenty of other food about so they are not that interested right nowHoping to get up Morries sometime this week, on a minor hunt for wallflowers, but not urgentLocal GC has advertised, Christmas Tat is now on sale, I may pop in on a photo shoot, get those singing reindeer while still freshEnjoy your day off 2P, and enjoy the sun while you canNumerus non sum5 -
Baby hogs always freak me out, Dusty, they remind me of a hairbrush I had years ago
The Plough definitely looks like a saucepan, taff.
Your dead hedge sounds amazing - we need a pic when it's finished.
I'm now thinking I hovered over the phone camera button to capture the 'taken from the car at 60mph' photos, wort, so it was a rapid shutter effect, because I've got seven sharp photos from the exact same time, but all very slightly different.
I love the geese photo, YBE, even if they are a bit wonky. I got up to 70 of them before I lost count!!
Glad you got to see W_M.
At least your grass is green again, twopenny
Hope you find some wallflowers, Farway, they have a lovely scent.
It's a chilly one this morning and I've just had to put a third layer on. It was another clear night last night, with lots of beautiful stars twinkling away.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
The sky this morning and a wee robin singing it’s heart out… ❤️

Late to the party.
I'd an early morning surgery call to fetch a bloke from an outlying village. I nearly said 'old bloke' but he was 14 years my junior. #therebutforthegraceofGod
Anyway, he was on crutches and obviously needed help, because they kept him for 90mins, then sent him home to await an ambulance to big hospital.
He'd no money, so that's my good deed for the week. I can be nawty now!
OT: It was foggy early on, making the lanes scary, but they were eerily deserted. As soon as the sun came through, everything came to life, and we were back to doing the passing place shuffle. Apart from the school run, I think many here please themselves when they start and finish! Lovely sunny day now, but as 2p says, it'll take till late afternoon to dry out for grass cutting.I'm sorry I missed your wondrous photos yesterday, Bluey. Don't think I refreshed.I love the Chatsworth dog, but the bananas will have to suffer without me. Like Farway, I've read so much free FT, they have me behind a paywall.
Now we have more of pp's photo art too. The wee robin wins the Cuteness Award.
As for our Mrs Dusty's hedgehog photos, I'm giving you those untweaked. Here they are all huddled together:And this is the box we adapted as a feeding station:
This is one of the youngsters feeding a few hours later, on Saturday night:Last night, both bowls were cleared, so it looks like these youngsters will get to the magic 600g before winter sets in.They're getting used to us, and no longer curl-up in a ball when we're near.
Must go and do some proper work now, but finally:Farway said:I remember ITV starting, but you needed a different ariel and a set-top box to receive it, so only those with more than two h'pennies to rub together got itWe lived in a hole and ate coke so never had itJust say, "No!"7 -
That's amazing Dusty!
Have you made a tube inside the entrance?
I got a little sort out of the garden mess. I have strawberry runners. Those weedy things I bought from TnM must have been grown on rocket fuel 😲
Now to find somewhere to plant them because I can't waste free strawberry s. 🍓
Lovely autumn colours on my apricot tree. I think it's paid for itself now.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Have you made a tube inside the entrance?A tube? Pourquoi? There's a brick to stop it blowing away and help prevent cats/other animals reaching around to the food, but the hedgehog website said nothing about tubes. It's being used tonight. Mrs Dusty followed one small hog, and it went purposefully, straight to the box.

Morning all
Bad/good news - my laptop screen just died a death on me, it went all flickery and then turned black and that’s it :’( So no more rambling nonsense ‘til I get a new one.Belated happy birthday to choo choooos (can’t believe I forgot them Farway!) and I love your babby hogs Dusty. I’ve screenshot your box pic so I can try and replicate it, just in case they’ll brave the stadium lights. Your apricot tree is putting on a good show for you there 2pOT Cool and damp out there this morning but a nice day to come, they say. Sunny once the cloud lifts, and hardly a breeze. 8’c currently and a high of 16’ to come, possibly. My husband told me to stop speaking in numbers, but I don't 1 2.6 -
Sad that your screen has died, Bluey, but maybe, like Mrs Dusty, you're due a new model this year? Hers was groaning under the weight of a trillion photos, and couldn't cope with her new job of making posters etc for the
garden club.
Of course, 1825, Stockton to Darlington railway....everyone had to learn that!I think any hogs you have will soon adapt to the lights. Ours aren't taking much notice of our head torches now. However, the hedgehog forum Mrs D uses won't allow any photos taken with flash. Obviously purists.Besides roads and badgers, one big headache for hogs is easy access from garden to garden on modern estates, but they don't have that problem here. With the badgers gone, and not so much spraying now fields are grassed, they should flourish.
Misty and moist again this morning, but I woke late and forgot my camera. Her next door's 3 dogs woke me, harassing some poor soul in the lane.
That's OK. Yesterday afternoon, I sawed up logs for two hours.
17c in prospect, but it looks as if the good weather breaks down by Friday, possibly meaning no walk then.Just say, "No!"5 -
That's really annoying Bluey 😬
Did it happen first thing this morning - which is the worst 😐
Dusty, how do you ensure no cats or rats can get into the feeding station?
Nothing exciting to report today as it starts with trying to compare gas and electric prices.😵💫 It takes forever to get to the root of what's being offered and no good for my temper. Remember when you made a call and it was done in 10 mins?
Got to the beach yesterday and there were 2 great egrets on the edge of the surf. I over stayed by an hour trying to get the shot and was then late for everything else 🤭
Photos to follow but the sun is shining now, 7c and things to sand, weeds to pull etc while we have it.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Sun is out, and it's warm as well, get the last of my outdoor toms ripening.I'm surprised I've got this far without [ looks furtive & whispers} Blight. There. But I expect a few quid will be needed on way or the otherThe lights may have one advantage, attracting suicidal insects to be eaten by bats?Up to Morries for bits & bobs, and check on wallflowers.Nah, the only wallflowers left were the Norwegian ones that have made an early start to the Homeland.Try again another dayWhile mooching in the garden yesterday I found some missed pears, not the red monsters, these are the French ones, supposed to be very posh & tastyThe recent rains have turned little ones into whoppers, and one was on the ground turning yellow, I assume to indicate ripe.Picked and indoors, left two out to see how ripening goes, rot before ripe? Or super-duper? And two in fridge to see about storing & timingSmall banana & large apple for scalePS, just looked the pears up" In storage, they have a tendency to decay in the core whilst looking perfect on the outside"Bum, and bum again
