twopenny said:🎄Hope you all had the Christmas you wanted, or if not something that was pleasurableIt's been sunny sort of here,It was one of the nicest Christmas Days we've had, thanks.
It would have been nicer if we'd had some sunshine, like you, but we're still stuck in the cloud we've been in since Monday.
Today may be even nicer, as we have little cooking to do, but the cloud is forecast to stay with us until Sunday. No high winds or heavy rain, though, so the polytunnel will be habitable. I may get some catching-up done in there.
By the way, the radio-controlled car was awesome, but it was faulty and stopped working after only 30 minutes or so. Only one person minded, and he had plenty of other distractions.Hopefully, you folk had a Christmas Day which suited your preferences too. Our robin certainly did. I'll have to get a good picture of him, like yours, 2p. He's slowly becoming socialised, probably because chasing off about 30-40 other small birds becomes quite tiring after a time!I have a piece of bad news this morning, but with a hopeful twist. The huge oak which sits above the lake at Rosemoor was a casualty of Storm Darragh and snapped! However, the roots are still in the ground, so there's a chance it will re-sprout.
Not buying into it.6 -
I had a grand day, lots of laughter with family, getting home around 10.30 last night for a cuppa before bed. A lie in this morning, and unless the weather bucks up a lazy day in prospect. Like Dusty it’s cloud like mist again. That’s a shame about the oak, amazing that the insides had all gone it will be interesting to see if it tries to recover, and wether the fungus will affect the new growth.
I haven’t seen any robins recently, so am loving all your great pics, 2p he looks like he’s spying his chance at any food.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Love your cyclamen Farway. I have tried putting some in a few times out the front but they just don't like it. I'm hesitant to say it's too dry seeing where they normally grow but an application of compost wouldn't hurt.PP, I spotted it! But I didn't know what it was so I didn't say anything
600 on a soft blink so half come on and get brighter and fade, then the other half but there's enough to just look enough...
ybe I always thought it meant evil be to he who evil thinks. There are so many variation but is it to with stockings or something originally?2P, well done for gardening! sorry it came with added extras afterwards..Merry Christmas to you too, Dudtys roaring did make me laugh, reminded me of Jeremys roaring toothache...I have a rose from one of my mothers that did not get the memo it was the wrong time of year...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7 -
Dusty - top tip from my dad for battery-operated toys was to keep a supply of almost-dead batteries and use those to power the grandchildrens' toys6

Clever dad Greenbee
A bit like the couple I used to lodge with - he would always offer to wash up but insisted to leave some food stuck to the plates. That way his wife used to do it thinking he wasn't capable!
Woke to sun but not that warm out. Enjoying the second of my totally lazy days but still with gammy leg and a touch of gastritus, which is annoying as I've not indulged at all.Now it's the lazy cloud as Bluey says, dropped to the ground and snaking down into the town so it's gone chilly and half dark. Such a shame. It also rained overnight which was unforcast so with the cloud and damp the washing is still not dry. At least it's not storms or torrents so there's that.Dusty that's a shame about the tree but I always think that it only happens when there's a problem so it's safer than waiting to see if and when it will fall.Taff, a rose and immaculateHow lovely is that! I saw two rose buds when I went out this morning, that was a surprise as I'd been working round that bush only 2 days ago. The climbing rose has had all it's leaves blown off but there are a number of buds sitting waiting. We;ll see.
Wort that robin was right beside us in the bush as we stood nattering. It hopped to a bush on the other side and then back. Must have been hoping we were the ones with the tub of seed.Poppy, how lovely to have Curlews.......we had lots here until about 20yrs ago when the town got built up, path put in along the coast line. Now it's rare. Ditto Wimbrels and Turnstones which used to nest on the shore.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Less I love your old fashioned lights and I feel your pain that they've died.
They're the same as the ones I have on my tree, they're older than I am cos they were ma's and I'll be pure heart-broken when they give up. Is there a repair cafe type thing near you, just in case they're rescue-able?
Judging by the state of your xmas tree Dusty I'm not a bit surprised your lights can be seen from the village + town + the moon
I didn't notice your Curlew pp, but I like the swans. They're ferocious mean if you upset them but I still like watching them gracefully swimming along
That sounds like a great day wort, how's your head this morning...?
Bluddy 'ell taff, that's a rose eh. It looks like a fragrant one tooI'll have to D'Duck your sig when I've written this...
Your dad's battery tip made me properly laugh gb, so right and so wrong at the same time
Gawd 2pyou're not having an easy run of it are you. Fingers crossed that your innards and your leg are back to normal soon
Well I went for a walk this aft, cos himself went to his 'Orrible Sister's. I've decided which side of the line they're on between my stoicism and not-suffering-fools gene and I've given them up entirelyFull on sighing slumpy clouds weather here too but you can't sit on your erse all day, and I'm glad I went out cos I got some good (and on topic, well our topic) pics
Speaking of topics, have I missed the joke about the Mona Lisa socks...?As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...6 -
One thing I didn’t see was a rose but I saw representations of the other seasons -And a double sitooterie -I don’t know what this but there was loads of it and it looked very happyAs I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...7

Dusty, we had synchronised posting this morning
You weren't there when I refreshed.
My DD got her partner a remote-controlled car - flashing lights and quite a speedy little thing - our pussycat loves/hates it, but has fun chasing the ribbon that someone attached to the back of it
I like that phrase 'a grand day', wort, it reminds me of the Wallace & Gromit 'A Grand Day Out'We watched the new W&G last night and loved it. Santa left lots of W&G themed pressies under the tree, including the obligatory Christmas socks
I can't believe I didn't see the Curlew when I was taking the photo, taff, it must have been standing stock still. I didn't see it on the photo until the day after posting it on here either. Mrs Magoo strikes again. We do get quite a few of them here, twopenny. Btw, hope you feel a bit better now.
taff, that rose is beautiful, does it smell of a proper rose smell, it looks like it would??
Good idea with the batteries, greenbee
I was going to ask where YBE was, then refreshed and there she wasI love swans too, but definitely don't get on the wrong side of them. There used to be two adults and four cygnets, but I think one of the adults died
I saw it curled up on the grass next to the loch and assumed it was sleeping, but a couple of days later someone reported it had passed away
I know it was reported to the authorities, just in case it was bird flu
Talking of which, did anyone see the report about 20 big cats dying from bird flu in the USA??
Bird flu kills 20 big cats at Washington animal sanctuary - BBC News
I love the double sitooterie. No idea what the wee plant is, but I'm sure I've seen it before.
I was fibbing when I said it was pouring down this morning (I just presumed it was), but it is now. We've had our coronation turkey baguettes, which were yum, then I made a bramble crumble with the brambles I foraged earlier this year, enjoyed by all with custard or cream, double yum'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Ah Bluey, the blossom reminded me that we have some plum blossom trees in the park nearby. I looked to see if a cutting would be available but they are grafted on another tree. Must get a photo to ask the oracles on here.Yes, guess I didn't look after myself the last few weeks running around doing food, heating probs, car probs in mid winter and voila. I'm not 21 stillThink the woodland flower is Winter Heliotrope https://www.irishwildflowers.ie/pages/200a.htmlI now feel guilty, well a little bit, what with people doing things. After the drama of the last few weeks I spent the morning reading, did a bit of polishing wood and brass table I've relocated - which I meant to finish but didn't and watched a bit of telly and trawled the net for sales. Loved the whole do nothing day.Tomorrow I can be busyBesides being out here isn't exactly a joy, more 'I must' 'I oughta' but wouldn't have seen a hand in front of my face. The other day was impressive if muddyPoppy, I've got Tropical Chicken tonight - Coronation Chicken with added pineapple
on dressed pasta .
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I didn't realise it was roped off for a reason, but there again I'm a bit wayward.
The RC car lives, greenbee, but it isn't behaving satisfyingly, so is being ignored. Children are on Nerfs today!pink_poppy said:Dusty, we had synchronised posting this morningYou weren't there when I refreshed.

Re your bird flu story....treat anything with Gavin Newsome in it with suspicion, and Duckx2Go 'Gain of function research' when you've time!Beautiful lonely-looking rose and particularly apposite motto taff!Obviously doesn't apply to anyone on MSE!
twopenny said:Think the woodland flower is Winter Heliotrope https://www.irishwildflowers.ie/pages/200a.htmlI never seem to. Considered introducing it here, but decided not to. Primroses and hellebores are much more floriferous.
Since I mentioned the fallen oak at Rosemoor, here's a couple of ours, mere youngsters in comparison, photographed this morning. Believe it or not, the weather became much foggier later on!
